Kate,

same here, again! I'm too much of a perfectionist to settle for anything less than a perfect replica. As I mentioned, I've started on a 12" replica. Which for me, is a perfect 1:6 scale (I'm exactly 6' tall). So that will be nice when it comes to measuring the fabric for MINE. **muttering: lucky punk doll gets a dress...grrrr....** :-D

I bought 3 fabrics "leftovers"--two are poly-chiffon-type to practice on the outer layer, and the third is for the underdress. I actually don't remember what it is right now. Anyway, it all totaled $3.98. I'm going to be playing with dolls a lot next week at camp!! :-D

BTW, I like your signature.

*digs in closet for old Belle doll* She and Esmerelda were my favorite. *^^*

Lol about the 'lucky punk doll!'

Six feet tall! You lucky duck. I'm five-feet-two-inches short. XP Finding clothing to fit is something of a nightmare. Ah well. At least I can wear platforms.

Thanks about the signature. They're well-known and oft-used verses, but they're my beliefs in a nutshell. I'm often not sure where I stand on Biblical issues, what with getting conflicting beliefs from all directions, but those specific verses leave no room for doubt.

Actually, a few talented gals around here have finished this dress. jedi_blynnj and Princess1 for example. I'm not sure if they have ever posted any photos of themselves or not, but I saw jedi_blynnj's in person at the Celebration and it is beautiful! I also know that FERDALUMP has made one for a client as well.
If I can dig up a photo from the Celebration I'll post it up here for you. happy

Hello,

Random thoughts on this gown..
I have not seen anyone's dresses
including these details so...

Has anyone else noticed the 'scarf'
of fabric in the front that is connected
from the halter piece to the metallic
piece? It is visibly (at least to me) a
seperate piece when she is walking
with anakin and is a different gradient
in the p-19 video (on the form).

I also think there are two metallic pieces:
one in the front at the hem and one in
the back at the top of the bustle.

they look like three connected circles
in the shape of a triangle.. the one
in the front pointed up and the one in
the back pointed down

Has anyone else seen these or am I
going crazy (which is entirely possible happy )

Yes, I have made one of these (actually 2) one as a trial and error mock up, and one for a sweet young lady. I have taken some great pictures by a lake (I know, I know, what a geek! happy ) and will send the link as soon as I get the pictures back.

This dress is a KILLER! It eats fabric and dye. I have sewn professionally for years, and it's tricky to get it to look right, and fit right without, uh um uh everything falling out blush But once you get it, you've got it. It all flows from there. The trickiest part is the placement of dye colors, and all that wing span and bustle draping. I plan on putting together a description of how I made mine, as soon as I can sketch out some pics, and write it all out.

Oh, Ferdalump, I will be SO happy when you are able to post the pics of the dress you made, and some info on making it!!!

I did get my mom to help me with preliminary draping this weekend, and I learned a lot of useful stuff. Thankfully, 48" chiffon seems to be about perfect for the mantle, and I won't have to do much cutting at all-- hurray!

So far, I have two big questions:

1. The underdress: is the lycra covered in a layer of chiffon, or is it just a skirt? If it's just a skirt, how do you keep the difference in color from showing through the mantle? And what's the best way to make the skirt of the dress big and flowy-- the chiffon is so thin, I don't even think multiple layers would work. Perhaps a heavier fabric, like crepe?

2. What shape does the front of the mantle have to be in order to get that nice shape when it's gathered up into the metallic piece at the bottom? When I tried gathering it up with a hair elastic, it just made a big bucket, which isn't what it ought to look like!

Any help is enormously appreciated!

I was thinking, maybe do the 'overdress' in 2 semicircles, big ones, and then join and gather at the sleeves? Ack. I'm throwing my brain in neutral and going on that canoe trip and I'll worry about this when I get back.

Hey I'm new to the boards and pretty much just skimmed most of the messages on this threaf, but when I saw the pastel rainbow dress in ep II i absolutely fell in love with it. If any one has some sort of pattern or instructions to making it I would be very, very grateful. All the tips on this thread have been helpful, but I am definetely not a profetional sewer and and depending mostly on my mom to help me make it and a payyern would be great. I already have found rainbow colored material in a rag shop near me which seemed great for the dress but that is as far as I have gotten. If anyone has anything I can use that would be great!

Hi everyone, this is my first time over on the costuming board, and I actually came over here for tips on this dress so this thread is perfect! I too fell in love with it the first time I saw it, and ever since I've wanted to make it, or something similar, for my school prom. I asked my mom for help, cause I'm no sewer, but she isn't really willing to help me without some kind of pattern. I know that there isn't a pattern out there for this dress, but as far as the layers go there are probably patterns out there that could be used along with others and varied a bit to make the dress. Does anyone know where I fight find something like that?
