I was thinking: for the velvet most used for the coat, is it really a Burnout Velvet where the design it totally burned leaving only the chiffon(?) backing? Cause I saw the fabric in the right color (Blue) here in Singapore but due to the pricetag and my unlikeliness wanting to commit myself to actual do this gown, I'm giving it a total pass.
Oh! Hope I can see and peep "into" this gown soon! I was fortunate to do it for some of the LOTR Costumes and I'll give almost anything to do it again to the SW ones.

Yes Darth Eagle, it is a true burnout velvet. Several of us have ordered the fabric and dyed it (I'm using it on my costume).
Well, It's taking me forever to put the bodice of my coat together. I'm having to hand baste all the piping in place, and I had to rip out an entire days work because I somehow had pulled it way too tightly.
I won't have time to embroider my inner sleeve panels and I'm sad about that. I love the embroidery so much. I can always add it later, but I wanted to have a 100% finished product for CIII - not a half finished costume.
I also hate it when all I can see are the flaws 'my piping color is too light' ' the velvet is too blue' 'I didn't make the sleeves holes long enough' - etc.
Here are my progress pictures:

Stuff is just pinned to the dress form as I'm working on pieces - hence the sloppy appearance.
OK, I need to stop messing around on the computer and get to sewing!

kay_dee, I think we all suffer from the same thing about seeing the flaws. I know I do, but rest assured that your costume looks amazing and you should be very proud of it. I love the embroidery on this particular costume too, and I think that the embroidery you have already accomplished on your's makes it one of the nicest recreations of this dress that I've seen.
I am so excited about seeing your coat coming together. I've been waiting for this for so long.

It looks great so far Kay-dee! I can sympathize with you about the piping and it slipping; I had to used a pin about every half inch to hold mine in place so I could sew it.
I'm so excited to see your costume in person at CIII! Best of luck in finishing it in time! I'm sure you can get it done!

Kay Dee, don't worry! You can get this gown done in time for CIII. It is coming along fine now. I been checking out your website on it regulary and am very impressed at the amount of details you had done and planning to do to this dress. I'm sure it'll turned out prefect in the eyes of the common SW Fans, let alone the public!

Well, I know it wasn't finished in time for CIII - but this is the state my coat was in the morning that we flew out for the convention:
The lining seems to flip out a bit at the front, It probably needs another light pressing and maybe I'll just have to cheat and tack it to the side seams and a few places along the front.
On the up side, I can take the time to embroider my inner sleeve panels and not wear a half finished costume.
I actually had a brain storm for the headdress when I was making my Leia Lether belt last October. Even though I spent a good month making my headdress out of brass strips I'm not 100% happy with it. I was thinking it could be intersting to use leather strips, emboss them with tools to give it the textured look the real headdress has, and then paint it the bronzy color. I'm just not sure if I want to trash a months worth of hard work.
In any case, Tandy Leather has a large selection of embossing tools:

Hum, thought I heard Naboo girl say she made hers from craft foam covered in paint (It was even announced during the pageant). Maybe she can clear things up... although I think I lean towrds leather rather than the foam because it can be embossed.
I may just keep my headdress the way it is since a lot of labor went into it and it doesn't really look bad. It's a tough call because I'm always looking for ways to make things more screen accurate
It's funny to think I started my dress before Naboo girl made hers. That's what I get for packing it up and working on other costumes in between I'm also very slow.
Thanks,
Kay Dee

Kay_dee, your headdress is amazing! I know personal standards can be set really high, but I think it's incredibly well made. You should keep it!
