Look for some sites under google or yahoo. I found one that i'm going to start a jedi robe with very soon. Basicly the purpose of this reply is to keep this thread on the first page so others will see it and reply...

For a Jedi costume simply go to your local fabric store and find a pattern for a kimono/karate gi. I believe all the different pattern companies have one.

I have just completed a jedi costume and for the outer robe I would suggest using a Simplicity pattern. I can't rmember what the number is, but the cover of the pattern has 4 pictures on it. A black ringwraith, a white maiden, a merlin type wizard, and a peasant. For Darth Maul you could make the pattern as is, because the sleeves hang down really long. For a jedi, I would suggest altering the sleeves to make them somewhat shorter. It is a pretty good pattern and you can find it in the costume section of Simplicity's current catalog. Don't bother searching for it online, I already tried and couldn't find it. happy Hope that helps. Let us know how it turns out.

p.s. Check out the Boots!!! thread in this forum for some ideas for boots.

Yes!! Thank you! I knew there was a 9, an 8, and a 7, but could not remeber the order to save my life. Anyway, that pattern is the best one I have seen and it requires very little alteration for it to look authentic.

Do you make the hood bigger by making it longer breadth/heightwards? I tried making a Handmaiden Maroon Cloak but the hood is still not big enough. sad

WE DID OURS 5 OR 6 INCHES LARGER HIGHT WISE . I THINK SOME WE DID WERE AS BIG AS 25X50 . I THINK THE BIG ONES LOOK BETTER AND MORE AUTHENTIC . IF YOU HAVE TIME AND ITS YOUR FIRST ONE I SUGGEST A TEST ROBE . IF YOU DONT HAVE TIME MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ENOUGH TO EXPERAMENT . YOU CAN ALLWAYS REMOVE FABRIC , BUT YOU CANT REALLY ADD .

So there is a place that I can get a large pattern for a jedi robe. I had a very small printed one prom the internet that my mom "couldnt work with" because it was so small. what is this "simplicity" you speak of? I really want a robe.....

Okay... I found this Simplicity web site. I see their catologs for sale... which one do I get for the jedi robe? After I get the catolog, do I need to order the actual plans, or are all the plans right in the book?

Go to wal-mart or a fabric store like Hancocks or JoAnn's. They have pattern catalogues you can look through from the major pattern companies--Simplicity, Butterick, McCall's, and Vogue--as well as those patterns for sale. The patterns you want will more than likely be found in the costumes section of each catalogue.

EDIT: The patterns themselves are in envelopes with pictures on the front, material information on the back, and directions and the tissue pattern inside.

Just reviving this thread because I thought I'd be considerate and not start a new one. happy

What do you think about Simplicity #7438? I've seen that one reccomended on Amber's Jedi Meditation Chamber and Padawan's Guide...would that one work as well? It's a pattern for a sleevless robe, and basically I'd have to make different sleeves and modify the hood. What's your opinion about whether I should use that one or #9887? I'd really like to get one that looks the most accurate, of course, but it's difficult to decide.

Can someone post the envalope or publicity picture of this Simplicity #7438? The official site seems not to have this pattern anymore. Or could this pattern be the rip off of SW pattern (the one with the Pink Robe)? shock
