Sorry, I know I'm sitting on a few photos that will probably help people out.
Firstly, if anyone has gotten the Star Wars Poster book you may notice the Italian poster in which Padme's robe is coming off her shoulder to reveal more of the nightgown.
High Resolution >
I know Maggie has a mountain of photos to sort through so here are a few good shots I got of the embroidery on the nightgown.
Embroidery high res >
nightgown high res >
nightgown high res >
Hope that helps!

Wow, KD, those are amazing! I knew you got some good ones with your camera - nice and sharp too! My next camera is going to be one like yours for sure! :-)
I'd seen a tiny image of that poster you posted, but that is a nice big copy of it!! You don't mind if I grab these, right?
Thanks for posting them! :-)

Yeah Maggie grab away! You know, my camera is hit and miss. Some photos I took just came out awful. I just took lots of repeats and finally sometimes something would be in focus.

The details...they're so...clear. Especially that third picture, wow!
Thank you so much for taking them, Kay Dee!

Just thought I'd share my progress on this gown. I'm working on the embroidery right now. This is version #1 (I'm already planning another version with the embroidery design updated from exhibit pictures).

I'm pondering doing this over the summer, but I'm wondering, after you smock your fabric, how do you cut out the pieces for the robe without messing it up? Wouldn't it come apart?

Nice work, Kasey! Can't wait to see the final product!
Ryder - when I made my robe I calculated the size pre-smock. In the few cases where I did need to cut the fabric, I had to cut each line of smock stitching and hand tie it off.

eclia- so you basically cut out your pattern, estimating how much bigger it needed to be, then smocked it? Thanks again!
Also, is the robe just a classic robe pattern, or something like a poncho?

Hi Ryder,
My robe was a very simple pattern. 2 long/wide strips of the velvet sewn together halfway.
Like this:
---...............----
\...\.......... /.../*
.\...\........./.../*
..\...\......./.../*
...\...\...../.../
....\...\.../.../
.....\...\./.../
......|...|...|
......|...|...|
......|...|...|
......|...|...|
......|...|...|*
......|...|...|*
......|...|...|*
...... -------
Once it was stitched like this, I smocked it all, going horizontally across. Next I lined the entire unit. Finally, I folded over an stiched seams at the stars on both sides.
If I did it again, I would make mine wider and the smocks closer together. I did enjoy making it though!

Eclia- Thanks again!
So it was basically like this, with the same colors being sewn together (except the black)? Sorry for bugging you about this, but you seem to be the only one who's done the robe.

Yep, that is pretty much it, and the neck was a natural part of the two fabrics, not cut any less wide than the bottom. I do not have any type of clasp in the front either, I just let it hang down by my shoulders. And feel free to pick my brain as much as you need!
Good luck, and definately post pics of your progress!

Thanks muchly! And I will post pictures once I find my camera.
Thought I asked this: How long did your smocking take?
Also thought I said this: BEAUTIFUL job on your costume, eclia!

Hi Ryder,
Thanks! I think it took me about 2 months, start to finish to make the robe in time for CIII, with a good month of smocking for a couple hours every day, and I made the nightgown over the course of few days. Its all sort of fuzzy now though. lol

Okay, finished a test swatch (and found camera )...
Front and back.
Took me... 20 to 30 minutes? And I'm still not totally satisfied with it, but I'm a perfectionist...
No, this is not my actual fabric, it's actually a random shirt I had lying around that no one ever wears.
