Best EL Blade for Dueling
hy every1
i was wondering what is the best el blade for dueling, parks, lightec, or any other? or are el blades not the thing i want to duel with? on the lightec site, it says in the faq that they are good for dueling and they are virtually industructable. is there truth to this claim? thanx.

Lightech blades are basically EL string light shoved inside a polycarbonate tube with a diffuser around the inside to make it glow evenly.
Parks blades use 360*EL sheet so the entire blade actually glows.
Materialwise both are equally sturdy. Just a matter of whether you want one that looks really good versus one that looks just okay. I'd go with the Parks.

Let me add that Lighttech claims a 360 degree glow - which is true, though somewhat dimmer than Parks. Parks EL sheet is *almost* 360 - it has a black seem down one side of the blade where the 2 edges of the EL meet.
You can always build your own as well. Search the threads for info on EL blades.

Hey Darth_Sleeze,
I've been looking into this as well. All signs point to Park Sabers,
http://www.parksabers.com
as the source for the best saber. They've shipped over 6000 sabers world-wide and have not had one compliant of a saber breaking. I called and they told me that they ran one over with a car as a test and it still didn't break. Jeff Parks is a dedicated Christain too, so you can be sure he's not to pull a fast one on you.
I ordered one 3 days ago. Take my advice, go with Parks!!

I've heard that Parks now offers a true 360 blade too.
Ive read that on the boards here many times, but i dont know if its true.
But from what I hear Parks now has true 360 EL Blades too. And it doesnt have those "hot spots" some sabers have because they cant distribute the light evenly.
G'day.

I conquer.
His sabres happen to not only be the best workmanship.(I have 2 of them), but CAN take a beating. However I haven't asked my friend to run over the blade w/ his car yet.
The price maybe be steep for people who haven't much, but if it's saved up and is invested in a very cool work of functional art, it's well worth it. IF they do break or start spazing out, send it back he works on it and wil send it back toyou. You do pay the postage to send it back for tune -ups. According to Kim, she says Jeff does give them "tune-ups" and charges very little if anything. Most he had charged was $20 for parts. At any rate that's excellant even for a tune up every couple of years from battle damage.
He's a very nice guy too.

As I hold my Parksaber Arc-Wave in my hands, I can attest that the glow put off is magnificent! I got the green blade, which has the strongest intensity of all of their colors. There is a darkened line (though not black) that runs down the length where the paper meets, but the rest of the sabre and blade are so impressive that no one actually notices it. I am extremely pleased with my sabre.

Does Parks-Sabers sell blades to those who make their own sabers?
Do EL blades require any special driver electronics or can they be hooked up directly to a 9V battery?

I don't know about Parks (you could always write him and ask) but Lightech does sell a kit for putting blades into custom sabers and such.

Jedi_Jacen,
One sweet sabre 'eh? Do ya have a pic of you and the new edition?
I have a Fury and an Enchelon. Echelon seemed to be not as "guyish" for me. The Fury looks like it could belong to a Sith Lord. Well I could say I got from beating a sith.:) <VBG> nahhhh.
Where can I post pics on the forum? I looked and can't locate it.

RE: Best EL Blade for Dueling
Not to hijack the thread, but I ordered a Malestrom a couple of weeks ago. I know the wait is said to be 6-8 weeks, but I was wondering just how long everyone else has waited for their Parks Saber to show up. With my luck, it'll show up about the same time as the model of the Jedi Starfighter and I won't know which one to open first. Decisions, decisions...

BOTH!..<VBG>
Highjack? nahh, no highjacking here. :-) Iordered mine the 1st week of may and it showed up the last week of june(i think). Only reason, he had a bunch of Echelons already made for a convention. He's pretty good w/ the 6-8 weeks though. Might get it sooner then the prescribed time.

In that case I'll hijack more often. I did recheck the website last night and it's 8-10 weeks, not 6-8. When I called, I was told they would be in Chicago and have quite a few of them there. So it looks like I'll be waiting until at least August either way. Anyhow, back on topic now...

Parks sabers seems to be the best from what i can tell...however, The waiting is the HARDEST PART!
I placed my order in mid May and im still waiting 8 weeks to the day. I still have not received any email to let me know if my saber is on its way, and like a sick-o i keep checking my inbox frequently (almost every hour)
