Haha - that was Marie's great idea! I was totally ready to take a lunch break, so I look a little tired/out of it in that pic. But she didn't want to miss our chance before they carted R2 away.

For C4, if we have a white Leia day/photo op, we could try something like a Rockette's line - Show our slits 'n boots kind of thing.
I don't know the schedule of ANYTHING else, but the Slave Leia shoot is Sat at 3pm. Should we start thinking about what would be a time for something like this/notifying other boards/running idea past what officiates/getting the word out to all attendees and on which forums!
I mean this COULD be big. When I joined RL, white Leia's outnumbered the next most numerous costume (white battle Padme) more than 2 to 1, there were 41 Leia's, then 19 Padmes and then the numbers jumped way down below the 10's per costume. Also, how do we feel about the mass produced Halloween costumes, both versions.
I'm voting Friday, anytime nothing else conflicts and home sewn, at least for focus of the shoot. Should we recruit a pro photographer? I think I remember the name of the guy who did the 501st at comic con.
I don't know anywhere else to bring this up, and if any board should know about a white Leia photo op, it's this one! Feel free to email me privately, anyone and everyone, if too far off topic.
Thanks,
Alli

Hi everyone-
My name's Dani and I've been lurking for a while...just checking the place out. I'm going to make a 3rd version of my ANH Leia dress for C4 and I was just looking for tips and tricks I could've used on the first 2. Here's me in version 2 from last year at SWW:
I'm using the Jet Set from Joanne's, but I'll be lining the dress this time. I'll add the little gathers at the waist because getting the perfect amount of blousing was always an issue. And I got my faux hair order today so I'm going to practice making buns so I don't have to use that awful wig anymore. Also, I wanted to share a link I've had for a few years for boots because I know that can be a problem for some... http://www.gothamshoes.com/mall/yuma.asp I bought the black and painted them white because they didn't have my size in white. Not 100% accurate but not too bad, either.
I hope to start the new dress this weekend. If I have any Q's, I'll be sure to post. And I'll certainly post pics when all's said and done.
BTW, I'd love to be in on an ANH Leia group pic at C4.

Great Dress Dani! It would be fun if you could join us for a group photo at C4!
I think we should check with Sister Sola and start a C4 Leia ANH photo shoot thread.
I'd first want to check to see what day the 501st photo shoot is. (Have you heard Alli?) I'm not going to be able to do my hair for the Leia buns the same day I have to wear my bucket.
I think lining up more than one photographer is a good idea (back-up insurance!). My plan is to bring my husband along to the convention so he can take photos with his camera (it is a professional digital SLR - same as Britt's used at ComicCon. He took all of these photos at the RL photo shoot at WonderCon). We can do a variety of poses
I think we have to be really careful about being too exclusionary here. There are people with excellent Leia costumes that have purchased them by commission from well known costume makers. If someone walks in with a Rubies costume it would be rude to tell them 'go away'. However, the fact that I think we will be promoting this through TFN and Rebel Legion (I highly suggest posting a thread about this in their C4 forum as well)... the odds are we will have people who have either researched their costumes here or they are Rebel Legion approved.

Back to the topic of the boot sole color that came up a while ago... I started studying more photos and it is my belief that the soles are not jet black. I suspect that although they have faded over time and are now looking like a pale brown on the exhibit tours - they were probably originally a very dark chocolate brown before they faded. Here is one close up I have of the boot soles when worn in the 70's in a studio light photo:
http://kay-dee.net/costumes/leia_anh/boot_soles.jpg
When compared with Han's gun in her hand which is black, you can see the soles are a bit lighter:

Just me current opinion and observation.

A few of us from NYC got together today and took a few photos with the Times Square R2 Mailbox It was a TON of fun - I've only ever trooped as Leia for Halloween, so it was a great time to be doing a mini-event as Leia Tourists, locals, and even the cops wanted pictures. The cops asked us where the convention was at... we pointed to the mailbox and they started cracking up lol.
I used those extensions that have the elastic in them that wrap around an already made bun. I made small braided buns with my own hair, attached the hair pieces, split them into two parts each and proceeded to wrap them as buns I was happy with the way they came out. Riding the subway in costume was fun, people would look at me and go back to their papers or magazines LOL.
Here I am actually mailing the photo from above to Mary Franklin. We ran over to Duane Reade and printed out a photo to put in the box
Here's the rest of our photos with R2D2

Wow, Benae! How cool that must have been!
Bad news...I think the Joanne's website has stopped selling the white jet-set fabric- they only had black, and in the past few weeks, it's been out of stock.
Silver lining...I just got home from the nearest Joanne's, and they had seven bolts of it! Maybe all stores are stocking up for the warm months ahead. I bought all my meager funds would allow, which should be enough. I need a distraction project while I piece my picnic corset together, and I've wanted this costume since I was a little girl. The pattern has been drafted, and I can tell by the fabric that this will be super comfortable!
The belt...I've visited Tandy leather, and am wondering what size 'belly' strip to purchase. My natural waist is about 26-27 inches, but the sizes on the website are hard to determine (I've never purchased leather online). If anyone has any suggestions on what size strip to buy, I'd appreciate it.

Make a pattern out of a stiff paper for your belt, that will let you know exactly how big a piece of leather you will need. The pattern will help with cutting out the leather as well.
I took my old vinyl belt and photos of what I wanted to make to a Tandy leather shop a little over an hour from home (the closest one). The manager was a great help and he found the right piece of leather for two belts (one silver and one white), the leather paints and then gave lots of tips for working with the leather.

luminousbeing78, I would actually Call the tandy leather store nearest you so you can get a sales person to help you over the phone. That's what I did rather than risking ordering online. After you have made your template out of poster board (or some other stiff paper) to see what size it is, call them and tell them what dimensions you need your belt to fit on. Explain that your belt is not just a straight strip of leather. I tend to think that 5-6oz is a little thick... I think 4-5 oz is better. Also ask them to look for a belly strip without big holes in the middle or defects!
I hope you will be able to join our tentative Leia photo shoot at C4 I hear you on needing a break from the complicated costumes. That was a big part of the reason I made my ANH Leia costume too.

It depends on the size. I've paid around 19.00 for one, closer to 30 for another.

Thanks for the info, Kay Dee! I'll telephone the Nashville branch of Tandy leather this week. All I'll lack then is the hair for the buns. As for the boots, they're probably out of the budget, so I may just remove the blue fur from my snowbunny boots and wear them. They do have a heel, but hopefully it won't be too noticeable.
p.s....I'd love to be in the photo...sounds like lots of fun!!
