It's that time of the year again. happy

So my boss gave me my W-2's last week and I finally got around to doing my taxes tonight. Turns out my federal refund this year is going to be $944 and my state refund will be $284! grin dancing

For anyone who doesn't know, you can do your taxes for FREE on several web sites these days including free eFiling your federal return. I used taxactonline.com to do mine and eFile my federal return, then used Colorado NetFile to file my state return for free.

Last time I filed this early, it only took about 8 days for my refund to hit my checking account. Can't wait! grin

shock I didn't know about those sites. Thanks for the info, Ben! I'll be sure to use those this year instead of TurboTax.

I heard that California was handing out IOU's this year instead of cash for people due a return.

And ever since I birthed my minion, I have scored big time with my return. cool

We have to file a personal business tax return as well as our regular one, so I think we still need to buy the software. I could do the state one for free tho... now we just need all the documentation: interest paid on student loans, house interest, interest interest, and the w-2's...

dh pays to have them done, you can write that off as a business expense too grin Not sure how it's going to work out this year?

Don't talk to me about child credits, etc. I think people without children should get the credit since we pay taxes that pay for public schoools and we don't use those facilities, but people that do get money back from the government????? Scam!

I think I paid around $80 for the business turbo tax last year, and it's deductable too. I thought it was pretty simple to do, and other than having to measure the 'business' area of the house to determine how much of the utility bills we could deduct, wasn't that much work. grin

I use TaxFreedom.com to do my taxes and Colorado NetFile for the state. Sadly, I'm still waiting for my W2, 1099 and tuition statements.

You should be able to go online and get your tuition statements, right? I haven't gotten mine in the mail yet either, but I was able to log into my school's system to view and print the form.

I'm sure we will owe money to the big man again this year...and maybe some chump change back from the local man. Sigh.
