figured this needed a fresh thread since we know what we are doing with it.
tomorrow i will be going to the forney museum to officially trade cash money for one land speeder float.
it will reside at the wings over the rockies until they tell us we have to move it. maybe a month or 2. they will probablly not be able to display it because of the size but they will let us store it for a short time. i will firm up the details when i am there.
we will need to decide what to build next. desert skiff? ewok village? sand crawler? FALCON???
oh yeah, if anyone has a truck they can pull a trailer with let me know. my truck is broken...

While the open air nature of the desert skiff if amenable to a float, I'm not sure it would be very recognizable. The falcon or a sandcrawler would be cool - but they are closed vehicles, which means people sitting inside wouldn't be visible in a parade. Unless the design were altered...? Or unless they were to sit on the float without people inside?

If we were to do the shape of the Falcon, add the dish, and leave the top open, it would be recognizable enough and functional for us. I mean it would have to be scaled down some, but I think it could work.

We could do the Dagobah Swamp, with Yoda's hut, and set dress the X-Wing to match?
We could also do a Hoth Scene, w/ an E-Web and maybe a Tauntaun.

I would like to see us do an ewok village, but whatever the group decides is fine with me. My only request is that there be some role (costumed or otherwise) for the groups growing population of younglings.

I was thinking.... We could do Ewoks even with the really little ones, and have the parents dressed as Rebel Commandos holding them.

I like the idea of the ewok village. Although you may get the drunken shout from the crowd of "Ewoks suck!"

the rmff now officially owns a giant trailer with a land speeder on it. i will take care of the registration next week.
The land speeder is at the wings over the rockies. our work days will be on saturdays. im not sure how long it will be there, i told matt thats up to him but it will probably be for the next couple of months.

I really like this idea...
I think the Ewok village has the potential to look really great but how would you convey the trees? Anything fake that isn't scratch built is going to look too small, imho. Though I suppose you could just do it as a very open hut and the surrounding plank sidewalk/bridge/suspended catwalk or whatever. Hmmm...

Next year would be great, considering there won't be another St Patrick's day this year.

I definitely want it to be something I can dress my three year old up for and stick her on the float or at least have her next to it but matching somehow. She liked the idea of being an ewok but I am not a picture it in my head person and can't figure how to do the village either, at least not without a ton of money and work and materials- pretty much nothing of what we could do.
I too think the desert skiff might not be recognizable enough.
I liked the idea of a sandcrawler with jawas next to it- the kids- but like someone said, nobody could ride in it, and I thought I remembered being told that under a certain age is required to ride in a vehicle of some form- even if it is a stroller or wagon.
Ack my one year old found the power button. Gotta go.

So many naysayers
1. The entire purpose of the float was to have people that couldn't walk the route (for whatever reason) be able to participate.
2. Who says we can't do what????? If we want trees we can make trees. The float doesn't have to encompass the entire trailer, we are never going to be able to make something to scale.
3. Kids can always be in the parade or not, decorate a wagon or stroller. The rules are they have to be a certain age to WALK in it, so float or no float they can still be in it.
We are super early in the planning stages, so let's plan not whine or argue. We are the RMFF we can do anything once we set our minds to it, so let's open them up, get everyone to help with the process & get it done
