no matoes. No mayo. But there was some strangely colored bacon. I made bacon yesterday and put it in a baggy for later. I hope there wasn't an ancient baggy of last weeks bacon that was used by mistake.
ugggghh. and I still have to ride my bike home.

I think I kept waking up last night, but it could have been a dream that I was awake. I'm leaning more toward a dream because I'm not that tired today, and in between the waking up, I had dreams I was a highly skilled ninja infiltrating another ninja school.

Two nights ago, I had a really weird Red Dawn type of dream. Only I was in/near Denver when it got nuked (they alluded to it in the movie) and was there for the Soviet seige of the town's remains.
It really freaked me out, it was very detailed, and while close to the movie, had enough difference to make it nore of a shocker. And I haven't even watched Red Dawn in... months.
...although the nuke going off was vaguely like the scene in Indy: IV.

Well, that was an awesome nuke sequence. Although I have Red Dawn on DVD, it's probably been two years since I saw it, so I don't remember where they alluded to Denver being nuked in the movie. I know it was part of Jericho...

Oh, and why is it that everyone has it in for us? We're not that huge of a city in terms of population and all the important defence stuff is down in the Springs. Nuke them.

Denver is in reality the largest population center, and "Heart of the West" once you get past Chicago, and before you get to the Left Coast. Call it a symbolic target if nothing else.
Yes, there are other targets of military value, such as FE Warren AFB in Cheyenne, all of Colorado Springs (6+ bases), Mountain Home AFB in Idaho, Hill AFB in Utah and all of the missile fields around here and up North. Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska and the Dakotas really don't have a "major" city like Denver is.
Denver might not be a Chicago, or a Philly, Baltimore, or NYC or DC, but for the mountain west and western mid-west, it's the biggest show around. Therefore a significant symbolic target, plus iirc, the largest population center in any of those states. And who besides the Mormons, would miss SLC? Granted, Phoenix and Vegas should expect to get nuked as well, but who cares about South Dakota, or Wyoming (except for FE Warren...)
And in Jericho, these are the cities that got hit:
Atlanta, Georgia
Baltimore, Maryland
Boston, Massachusetts
Charlotte, North Carolina
Chicago, Illinois
Dallas, Texas
Denver, Colorado
Detroit, Michigan
Hartford, Connecticut
Houston, Texas
Indianapolis, Indiana
Lawrence, Kansas
Los Angeles, California
Miami, Florida
Minneapolis, Minnesota
Norfolk, Virginia
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Phoenix, Arizona
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
St. George or Cedar City, Utah
San Diego, California
San Francisco, California
Seattle, Washington
Washington, D.C.

In Jericho, I believe the "packages" were only 20 kiloton nukes. They are relatively "small" by nuclear standards, and while they wouldn't "wipe the city off the map", or even cause a major nuclear winter, it would make life very rough for anyone in the Metro area, or downwind:
Check out this simulator here.
15 psi: 0.42 miles
15 psi Complete destruction of reinforced concrete structures, such as skyscrapers, will occur within this ring. Between 7 psi and 15 psi, there will be severe to total damage to these types of structures.
5 psi: 0.76 miles
5 psi Complete destruction of ordinary houses, and moderate to severe damage to reinforced concrete structures, will occur within this ring.
2 psi: 1.34 miles
2 psi Severe damage to ordinary houses, and light to moderate damage to reinforced concrete structures, will occur within this ring.
1 psi: 1.97 miles
1 psi Light damage to all structures, and light to moderate damage to ordinary houses, will occur within this ring.
0.25 psi: 5.05 miles
0.25 psi Most glass surfaces, such as windows, will shatter within this ring, some with enough force to cause injury.
0.1 psi: 10.34 miles
ED; The larger nukes do go up to 15 Megatonns, or possibly up to 50. That's a different story.
Thankfully, the whole global thermonuclear war thing is largely unlikely. It's the 20 KT and smaller ones that I think are more of an issue. Also, if it is set to a ground burst, the fallout factor is MUCH higher.

Not if they're small nukes. And no one would miss Philly. It's only a half step above most of New Jersey. I just love the game Defcon... no way to avert nuclear war, so place your silos, airfields and fleets and target up to 5 opponents. It plays exactly like Joshua's simulations in War Games looked and is dirt cheap. Just for when you need the futility of banging your head against a desk without wanting to leave a mark.

Don't we have thermonuclear warheads in the realm of 56 megatons?
