Yay on the potty training! That's fabulous. Um, probably not so yay on the flinging of food, as that one is probably less fabulous...

Hey, what a co-inky-dink, Jules and I mastered potty training at the same time! I'm kidding. NO REALLY! I'm kidding!
That's great though Mistress, it's one more thing to not have to clean up as much, right? I can't believe it's been over a year that she graced the planet.
Time must be flying for you Mistress.
I have an idea Jenny, next time Jules feeds, put 3 canvas' around her and then when she flings food at them. you can sell them and tell everyone the Jules is the last protege of Jackson Pollack
(he's the guy that would just throw multiple paint colors at a canvas and then let it dry and charge 50,000 dollars AND GET IT!)
Glad to hear things are going well.

lol, pooh. Jackson Pollack? What a hack.
We went to the Butterfly Pavilion today. It was neat. Julien didnt know quite what to make of the flutterbyes. At first she merely pointed and grunted with her face all crumply like she couldnt figure them out. By the time we left she was really digging them, especially the really big ones (which I think might have been moths). We stopped by the giftshop and picked up a bug ball and some Miss Spider books. All in all a good hall.
She seems to have really enjoyed her trip to visit Uncle Adam. She can nearly crawl from one end of his apartment to the other. You can hear her laughing and her hands slapping the tile as she roams the new digs. It took us an entire day of cleaning to make it "safe"...but my brother being a bachelor has really helped. He has very little in the way of anything in his place so its relatively babyproofed. What a treat that has been for her.
My moms house is old, dangerous and full of antiques and other such non baby stuff. So she is kinda penned into just the one room. It really bothers me. We are on a waiting list to get into subsidized housing and I am really stoked about that. I want our place to be her domain, ya know? My room should be offlimits, but she should have way more freedom than she does. anyway.
Tonight when we were getting ready for bed, we read 'Miss Spiders Tea Party", and then after our story (as is our tradition) I sing her a song. She likes to touch my mouth, nose and eyes while I sing...I will tell her "mouth" when she touches that and so on...Tonight she started babbling while I was singing and at first it sounded like nonsense...and then I heard it...she touched my mouth and said "mout" she touched my nose and said "no-tse"...it was so sweet.

I had the best day with my daughter today. Its actually kinda funny that it worked out that way. She's been sick and I quit smoking, so we were both kinda cranky. My parents went away on a three day trip to celebrate their 20th anniversary. So it was just me and the Bean, all day. We played on the floor for most of the day with her dinosaurs. She would bring them to me and drop them on my lap. Then I would make them roar and chase her, pretending they were eating her belly (fake belly eating, toddlers cant get enough of this!!) She would scream and laugh until she could barely breathe. Then you fake em out and pretend to be done, only to attack again. Lol, good times.
We had pasta and bagels for dinner so she got to wear her Noodles Bib (pronounced Noo-leds by the wee one)
We had seen an intake person for a baby play group last week and she asked how many words Jules could say...I told her, I dont know...twenty? Then I went home and started writing them down. After todays new words (Bug and Stuck) we shot over fifty. Thats a lot for such a tiny kid. Kinda scary. I have wanted her to talk for so long. Now she is and its a little weird. Happens very fast.
She started walking (as in more than one step at a time unassisted) the day I quit smoking. April 24th. Now shes trying to run and often takes a header into furniture. She constantly has at least two bruises on her face at any given time.
I am trying to not be as protective. I let her walk around the yard while we work on the gardens. I let her taste rocks (she loves to put everything in her mouth). I draw the line at tasting things that are alive or things that have recently come in contact with an animal other than a human.
Meanwhile my mom (being a grammie) is super duper over protective. She puts socks, shoes and a sweater on that poor child no matter the weather. She called from the mountains last night, and I took great delight in telling her how I was letting the baby play on the couch (heaven forbid!!) and how she hadnt been on her trip for twenty minutes before the baby fell off the couch (mercy!) and that she lived through it unscarred! lol
She plays this cute (but kinda gross game) where she walks over to you, smells your feet and says, "oh". My mom always teases her by sniffing her toes and pretending to faint, you know the P..U game? The game has progressed to smelling the feet and then touching her tongue to the feet...I nip that one in the bud. Funny, but kinda nasty.
Anyway, I am tired so I will close for now.
Oh, one more thing. Took Julien to see Shrek 3. She luvs Shrek. She luvs Donkey even more. Scary.
movie was great, btw. Took j's picture in the theatre. Shes crying in the pic, because shes not heavy enough to hold the seat down (stupid me ) and it had squished her right before the pic. I'll post it if I get a chance. Hilarious!

Well, last night we had a bit of excitement.
I was sitting in my Physics lab, merrily wishing I was someplace else when my phone went off. I looked down at my caller id and saw that it was my mom. I walked out of class and answered it.
Whenever someone starts a conversation with, "this isnt as bad as it sounds," why is it that panic immediately takes hold and shakes you til your teeth rattle?
Julien had fallen down in the kitchen, and had cut open her knee. My mom called the doctor before she called me and the doctor said to take her to Urgent Care. So, I left my review lab, went and picked up my mom and Jules and we went on our merry way to UC. They wouldnt treat her. They said that stitches are traumatic to toddlers and we needed to go to the ER because they would sedate her.
So we packed up and headed to the hospital. After waiting for hours, they sent us home with some lidocaine laced neosporin and a bandaid, no stitches. I almost felt let down.
Today we went and picked out some Shrek bandaid for Julies booboo. Her latest Shrek favorite is Fiona (pronounced NoNa). She is very excited that Nona kisses booboo. Lol.
So, no review for the big physics test yet. But after class this afternoon...yes, I will do it then.

Yikes! Too bat they couldn't have told you in the first place that it wouldn't need stitches... could have saved some stress, trouble and money! But overall I'm happy to hear that it wasn't such a serious cut that they needed stitches.
Yeah, anytime someone starts with "it isn't as bad as it sounds", that's an automatic adrenaline hit. Because really, if it were't bad, why would they feel the need to preface with "it's not as bad"?
I've gotten to the point over the last couple of years where a call from home or a parents' cell is itself enough to make me start to freak, especially if it's at a time when they would't normally call me. I can't help it, my first thought is "how bad is it? Please, don't let it be too bad".

Last night Julien woke up screaming. She has had a bit of the bad dream stuff before, but this time was different in a couple of ways.
First way...she tried to tell me about the dream. She seemed to think whatever happened in the dream happened in real life. She kept pointing at the shadow of the ceiling fan and chattering about her nose. I couldn't figure it out. She can speak, but when she cries while shes talking and her nose is all stuffed up from crying, and shes talking really fast...its hard to understand.
I got the jist of it though. Bugs in the shadows going in her nose?
Anyway, she was terrified...second way. Shes been frightened before, but this was our first experience with terror. She clung to me and was shaking like a leaf. I was super tired, and the only song I could remember the words to was "silent night" so I held my wee daughter under the scary ceiling shadow and sang a christmas carol.
My parents would never let us sleep with them when we had nightmares, and I always swore I would never be that kind of parent.
soooooo
She wasnt falling asleep, so I brought her with me to my room. At first I thought that was the trick. She layed down and closed her eyes...but every time I moved she opened them and looked at me. After about fifteen minutes, she decided she wanted to sit up...and then she wanted to get up. I figured that was the sign she was back to her old self again, and took her back to her own bed and plopped her in. She cried for a few minutes, but
Eventually, she went back to sleep. I sat next to her bed until she did.
As I walked back to my bedroom, I heard a small voice squeaak, "mama?" and I said, "mama is here, mama goes night night." and i went back to bed.

Tea party anyone?
We have a wee ceramic tea set with service for eight. Jules fills the cups and carries them to whomever asks for one. So cute. This morning I kept pouring her milk into various cups and putting her cheerios on the tiny saucers. She would carry each cup and plate across the living room and set it on the coffee table. Once they were all there she would pick them up and carry them back to the window seat. So funny.
I need to find a better child development book than the "what to expect" series. Something more specific. Those books are a catchall.
Anyhoo...just thought the tea cup thing was cute.
oh yah, she has started trying to feed her baby dolls. There is one in particular that is her favorite. Its name is "baby". She kisses it (she makes the noise "m-mah" to kiss...lol), she tucks it in to its little bed, saying "tuck tuck, m-mah. nitenite baby" It is so sweet.
sigh...she is such a gentle soul, such a girlie little girl, and so cute. I luv her.

Julien finally has an actual room of her own! Very exciting. All of her toys are in her room, which really helps the clutter in the rest of the house. They dont always stay there, obviously, but they do start and end each day in their assigned spots. Real nice to not trip over them in every room. Dinosaurs are the worst. With all of their spines and pokey parts they can really hurt when you step on them.
She is doing great and getting bigger every day. I cant wait to bring her to a meeting so everyone can see how much she has grown!

Adorable! I love your description of her tea party and tucking the doll in bed. Did you guys move, or did you rearrange rooms?

We rearranged rooms. Her crib has been in my moms formal dining room all summer. We took out two huge china cabinets, a piano and the dining room table/chairs.
We brought in some of her outside furniture (wee picnic table). She loves to stand on it and look out of the window.
Her room is the largest room in the house, and we all find ourselves hanging out in it a lot. Its great to just sit and watch her play, or even better, join in! It brings out my inner kid.

I was drinking my coffee this morning when Julien starting saying something. She repeated it about five times before I understood that she was pointing my mug and saying, "Broncos".
Sure enough, I was drinking out of a Broncos mug. Wow.

J's favorite song this week is "happy birthday". She wants me to sing it to everyone. My moms birthday is tomorrow, and I thought it would be cute if I could teach the baby how to sing the song. I have created a monster! She doesnt sing it, she says, "heppyday, heppybedday!"
Do you want me to sing happy Birthday?
"heppybedday, Uk. Heppybedday, Ona. Heppy bedday, Monkey. Heppy bedday, Puss."
And I end up singing happy birthday to Shrek, Fiona, Uncle Monkey, and Puss N Boots.
Another funny note, she understands very well that cake comes with birthdays. Yesterday during our happybirthday song lesson, she said, "Cake Me, Please? Thank you."
I cracked up. "Please? Cake? Me?"
lol.
We bought her a pumpkin aka punkee and she had to take it everywhere she went (its tiny). She put punkee on the rocking horse and rocked him/her. She put punkee in a chair and gave punkee a cookie. She showed punkee her slide. She kept dropping lil punkee, and I told her it was gonna break. Sure enough, she put punkee on mommas lap while I was on the phone with Auntie Kim, and punkee slid to the floor and broke. Uh-oh. Punkee Ouchiebooboo.
When they start really talking, its the coolest thing. If she says something we dont quite understand and we repeat back what we think it is and we are wrong? She grunts this doh sound. Like a little homer simpson. Doh!
Funny baby.

I guess junior has hit her word explosion stage. Everything is in sentences now. I am not sure when that happened exactly. It kinda feels like it happened overnight. She is also starting to develop some very strong ideas about things.
Like going outside.
"Dulie Outside?"
"We will go outside after I finish my sandwich."
"sanish done. Outside?"
"My sandwich will be done when it is all gone. Then we will go outside."
Screaming and yelling, throwing of things, maybe a few tears...."Sanish all gone. Outside?" She grabs my plate and throws it and my sandwich on the floor.
She smiles.
I try really hard not to scream, cry and throw things myself.
We go outside.
One really funny thing is that she has finally realized that being sticky is kind of gross. She says, "Hands gicky. Wash hands pease." That one is really cute.
Another sweet one is, "Mommy a kiss Dulie? Hug too." I love that one, and oblige her with great gusto.
This morning we were watching the Backyardigans before I went to school, and they were pretending to be secret agents. J turned to me and said, "Shhhhh, secret." We laughed. Every morning when she gets up she comes to my room for her hot milk and my hot coffee and we watch cartoons. What a special time it is for both of us.
She loves to help wrap Christmas presents. I asked her to put a few wrapped presents under the tree last night, and when I went to check on her I found she had shoved them into the tree between the branches, so funny. She is very excited about San Cals and loves to sing Dingle Bells, and Deer. She does this crazy dance while we sing rudolph that kinda looks like someone riding a bull. Hand up waving in the air and everything. I wonder if Grandpa has been watching rodeo with her again.
I bought her Christmas Picture outfit a few days ago. I think we are going to see Mr Claus this weekend, so we will send out pictures very soon. Maybe even early this year.
She also has her first pair of snow boots. She wants to wear them everywhere, even in the house. When we went to Penneys to pick them out she saw all of these ladies posing in front of the foot mirrors while trying on their boots, and so she strikes a pose whenever anyone comes over, so they can oooh and ahhh over her new snow man boots.
One more funny story and then I am through. The Hallmark here in P-town is going out of business. I went in the other day to look for a Shrek ornament. I found one and bought it. I took it home and let J hold it. In two whacks she had broken off both of donkeys ears. She cried and cried, so upset. "Fitz it, Mommy, fitz Donkey Mommy." She cried herself to sleep. While she slept, Grammie and I glued those darn ears back on. The first thing I heard when she woke up was. "Dulie sorry, fitz donkey ears." and more tears. I told her I had, but that it wasnt a toy. She helped me choose a bright green string to hang it with and showed me wear to put it on the tree. We hung it together. Everynight when we say nitenite to the tree we look at the ornament and she says, "Mommy fitz Donkey."
I did, I fitzed Donkey.
