Way to go, guys! That's AWESOME!!!
It takes a lot of effort and focus to kick such habits, and I applaud you for doing what it takes.
Its definitely not an easy road, just know that you've got an AWESOME support network for ya right here. We're all rootin' for ya!

yeah, its probably best i dont read that stuff. i remember going to that warped tour last year and stopping outside the "truth" boot to light up just to see the reaction. those guys piss me off...still
as far as things that are bad for you, smoking is probably on top of the list, just under politicians that keep it legal and the companies that make them

Scott needs to quit.. even though he doesn't smoke at home or in his car, it's looking like the smoke in his clothes might be at least partially responsible for Sarah's near-constant congestion and subsequent ear infection. He'd been trying, had gotten down to 1 pack lasting a little over 2 weeks but kind of fell off the wagon and got back up to 3 packs a week. The current goal we've set for him is no more than 4 a day at work and 1 a day on weekends, with none at home on the evenings. Once he gets comfortable with that level, we'll keep working down.
He's not comfortable "asking for help" as he puts it, so i'm having a heck of a time convincing him to try quitlines or to talk to the talk about meds to help, even just the patch or gum or whatever.
The hardest part for me is having patience for him to get there. On the one hand I'm frustrated and upset that it's made our daughter sick, but on the other hand I spent most of my life battling with my dad about quitting and I know how hard it can be. My dad didn't manage to quit until his grandkids started to be born and he turned 50 (and everyone stopped harassing him about it). He still sneaks one every now and then I guess, but he's doing fantastically seeing as how at his height he was around 3 packs a day when I was a kid.

the smell of cigarettes isnt making your kid sick. believe it or not every human is allergic to smoke. thats why you cough and feel sick the first few times.
he will quit when he is ready. i called the colorado quit line and got the patch and alot of great encouraging advice. one thing i was told was that weening yourself off works less than cold turkey. as long as you tell yourself i can have one later your brain doesnt have the chance to know you dont do that anymore. your not breaking the habit your just slowing it down. i set a date and the day before i got rid of everything and smoked up! got it out of my system. then it was just reminding myself that its just something i dont do anymore. now i dont have to remind myself.
its hard to ask for help with this. tell scott that there are a few people in this group that are X smokersand im sure we will all help support him when he is ready. its an addiction, plain and simple. something like 90% of smokers quit more than once. they told me that this wouldnt be the last time i quit. im proving them wrong.

Well I was basing the statement on several studies that say that smoke in the clothes (not the smell necessarily, but the actual smoke/soot/etc) can aggravate or cause more middle ear infections in children under 3 years old. Either way, he does need to quit though.
I'll pass on what you've said and see if he wants to change the current plan at all.

I'd have to wholeheartedly agree with Jyn. The smoke odor is just the byproduct of the chemicals themselves having been embedded in the fibers of your clothing, furniture, carpet, curtains, etc.
Young children will be particularly sensitive to such substances, given that their immune systems are not yet fully developed.
I think that everyone either makes or doesn't make choices in their lives given the timing. If the time is right Jyn, he'll do what he needs to do. If not, nothing you, I or anyone say or do will persuade him otherwise. The site that I posted earlier regarding methods to quit smoking may provide useful for him. Or, maybe even some of those other sites listing all the toxic chemicals in cigs will scare him "straight". Hope that helps.

I have felt like a fool for starting smoking after being a nonsmoker for almost a year. Its time to stop beating myself up about it and do something a bit more constructive. My life will always be stressful, and even though it is super bad right now, I cant let that be an excuse to keep this up indefinitely. Enough is enough. I am going through the quit line this time, because I really believe I need the extra attention. I have also signed up for an exercise class at the college which should help with the heebyjeebies. One thing I read that may seem common sense to most people is to drink a lot of water the first few days. Every time I have quit I have usually laid in a ball on the couch the first day. No wonder it was so awful. Anyway, heres hoping the 87th time is the charm.

Mistress, good for you! That's awesome! Yes, drinking ample quantities of pure, i.e. non-tap water will aid in the elimination of cigarette toxins and thus increase the speed at which your body "kicks" the habit.
Caution is advised when using one drug to attempt to wean off of another drug.
The FDA has issued several safety warnings to Pfizer, specifically regarding Chantix.
A brief video clip is available here.
You can also view a discussion on "Will Chantix really help me quit smoking?"
A 2006 Australian study showed "Cold Turkey" as the most successful method in practice at the time. I'd be interested to know what the "other medications" being represented were:
