Of course! My mind lives in the gutter, next to you and Zoo. Occassionally, we all slip down the stormdrain, too.

I've been considering the possibility of buying a house the last month or two, and have started doing some research and searching to see whether I could find anything I could afford that I would like. This weekend I went to two open houses that covered the options currently on the market in the area I want that are in my price range. (I'm looking up in the hills, and my price range is low for out here, both of which separately limit me a great deal.)
Place #1: Loved the property. Outside, this place was exactly what I'm looking for. Redwoods, fairly quiet, privacy, seasonal creek, greenery. There was a deck, and a hot tub. Unfortunately, the house killed it as a possibility. It was a cabin from 1925, and very rustic. The building detail inside was that sort of makeshift quality that they had in places like this a long time ago - things didn't go straight/at right angles, doors didn't fit doorways well, no insulation in the walls (no space in the walls, period), floor wasn't flat, electricity and plumbing ran around on the inside of the walls and the outside of the house since there's no space in the walls, and overall it was very small. I was sad, because I did love the property.
Place #2: The house was better. It was still old, but they'd tried to update it at least superficially so that it looked ok on the surface. (Whether this covered up other problems is a separate, serious question.) The floor was very questionable, though... it bounced. It was clear that they had not put strong enough sub-flooring beneath the laminate, and so the floor gave a bit between the floor joists. Size was small, but could work for just one person. The property was a postage stamp, though - it barely went any farther than the house itself.
So, no luck yet.

Best of luck to you. When Armageddon hit at HP a couple years ago, I considered getting a job on the West Coast.
Until I saw housing prices.

Keep looking Alison, something will show up. If you can just hang out a bit longer w/ your Mom, maybe you can save more for a down payment????
I can't even imagine the prices, even now.

Ya know, if I was still single, I'd still be crashed out with my grandparents. That was a sweet deal. One of my buddies makes a little over twice as much as I do, and he still lives with his parents. Or he's at my house eating my ice cream. But that's beside the point.

Can I stay at your grandparents'? All I need is an airport nearby.

Rachel's grandparents are closer to the airport. And in the condition they're in, they probably wouldn't even notice that you lived there 1 week a month. And I don't remember which airline it was, but they're adding flights going out of PBL to Denver, Vegas, and Austin.
