I have never seen a wind turbine in colorado. I want to say there are some along Hwy 50 near Kansas, but I cannot remember.
Anyone who has driven between Ptown and Trinidad knows the wind blows enough there to power the entire country.

I don't remember now where I heard it, but someone referred to Wyoming as "The state where wind is born" I know we have several wind farms, outside Cheyenne, outside of Medicine Bow, I think there are several around Casper too... I'm sure there are more I don't know about as well.

I did some research and found there are some windfarms in Colorado. They tend to be in the far north and east of the state. I believe they are low scale test projects. *shrug*
We have enough wind through the central corridor of the United States to easily provide the power for 25 percent of the country. Thats doable clean energy. Why isnt Washington jumping all over this? Why is it that everyone thinks drilling offshore is our answer? The infrastructure alone for offshore drilling would take years to put in place. Not to mention that it is simply prolonging our withdrawal from oil gluttony.
The price of oil will not drop significantly unless the demand for oil drops significantly. I am not an economist, but this fact is as clear as day to me.

Agreed, completely. And I believe that most responsible people on both sides of the aisle would agree with tht statement: We have enough wind through the central corridor of the United States to easily provide the power for 25 percent of the country.
It is abhorent that no one (again, either side of the aisle) is pushing this. Along with solar. It's dumbfounding that we can't, but it's the extremists, again on both sides of the aisle, that screw life up for all of us. The tree hugging earth worshipping enviro-freaks get p!$$3d because wind farms and solar plants are hurting the local ecosystem (or gawd-forbid put a wind farm over the horizon from Martha's Vinyard --Teddy Kennedy's front porch) or the big bad eeeevil republikkans who are in a diabolical polt to take over the world through corrupt kapitalism (sarcasm intended throughout).
Oil isn't the be-all-end-all solution, but increasing domestic production means that we aren't as dependent on oil flowing through the middle east, and that is good for our national security and our economy. We are ALL trapped by OPEC and the production they put out, and the markets fluctuate based on any news story, real or contrived. And gawd-forbid ANYTHING happens in the Strait of Hormuz, or we WILL see oil at $200 a barrel. So the more we produce, the better off we are, as Americans. Period, end of story. In addition, our refineries are OLD, need to be replaced or upgraded, but the envirofreaks won't let us.
Do some research on how many new refineries have been built in the last 30 years. Look at how maxxed out our capacity is. We are in dangerous ground, because our infrastructure is limited, and a single break in any part of the chain can hurt us all.
When I lived in Phoenix around 2002-2003ish, a pipeline that supplied the "Special Phoenix Blend" of gasoline (mandated for environmental reasons) broke. In a matter of days (or hours iirc), we had gas lines and shortages like the 1970's. Until they temporarily lifted the restrictions on allowing other blends of gas into town, we had almost nothing. Radio stations and TV reported which stations DID have gas, and they were swamped in minutes. It was insane, and a very dark time. Just imagine is something ever happens at one of the big refineries.
So I don't care who one is, left, right, black, white, green, purple or blue, I think everyone should be able to agree that the status quo sucks, and someone needs to lead and make progress. If we can put a frakkin man on the moon in 10 years, we can find some kind of solution to the energy issues. Hyrdogen, solar, wind, geothermal, increased MPG, etc. We still need oil for plastics and all kinds of industrial uses, but do we need it for everything? Nope. and will someone invent the Mr. Fusion, so we all have good free energy from our trash? Pleeeez?
We lack a will to do this as a nation, and until SOMEONE steps up, we will continue to be in a world of hurt, energy wise.

Ya know, I love Obama, but I'm sorry -- that has got to be the downright stupidest plan for energy I've heard so far. We're trying to get off foreign oil, and his best answer is to try having us on 10% renewable energy in 4 years, without making our own oil?

My understanding of alternative fuels has been that when an individual comes up with something else & goes to get it patented that big oil companies buy it from them & put the patent in their name so they can burry it.
I know that sounds a bit paranoid, but what can I say?

sounds right to me, SC!!
another question:
as a current Californian (shudder), is it really worth it to register and vote?
Im not trying to be an ass. its a financial decision for me.
to re-register to vote, I need a new Drivers License and new registration. That'll cost upwards of 600 dollars.
at this point, the only reason for me to go through that, and pay the fee, would be re-registering to vote.
I want to cast my vote, and be counted but.., seriously... Obama has got California.
He totally does. So... why bother? (Id vote for him anyway.)
I know everyone says there's no such thing as a wasted vote but.... really. Obama is gonna win. He has to!
If McCain wins, we'll all know FOR SURE that the whole thing is rigged anyway.
That'd be bad.

You should be able to register to vote without doing all of that. Talk to your local county voting official. I know if Jefferson County, you can register to vote without all that hassle.
