Seriously though, I guess some of us are just used to SS's style of posting, and we simply know that it isn't meant in a condescending way at all. It's just how he communicates. happy

then perhaps he should improve his communication skills.

That was somewhat what my complaint was about the other thread that turned into the nutritional advice thread.

I'm not sure if I got my point across to him in PM, but one of my biggest pet peeves with nutritionists and other health advice types is they tend to come across as know-it-alls and a bit condescending. I think it lies in the passion and belief they have in what they do, but for some it can not only be annoying, but can make us turn away from their advice entirely.

Tofu does have a point on improving communication, any career where you're working with people (if I recall SS is going for a graduate degree (?) in nutrition or the like) can hinge on how well you can relate to your clients. It can be tricky because some people need the "do this" approach and strict instructions to be successful, others need different styles, like myself I'll listen to advice, but the moment I feel like I'm being told what to do I put up a wall and settle for a siege (thank my brother for that one heh). Learning to read people and adapt your style to what works the best for them can be difficult indeed, but in my opinion is a very valuable skill.

Just remember, on a message board, there has to be give in both directions. The poster has to think about how they come across in print. But the reader also has to be willing to cut them some slack as well, because you can't hear tone when reading (and as I writer, I can tell you it's a damn hard skill to master in any print media).

The difference comes from the fact that we interact with each other in real life, as well as the message board, and once you become familiar with that person, you understand more about the way they post, and you are more willing to begrudge them their shortcomings.

Otherwise... DH would drive me crazy! silly But on the boards, I simply accept his communication style for what it is. Just like SC does with me and my various essays. And she's also not afraid to give me a cyber smack when I get too far out there and lose everyone with the point. worried ::looks around for the hand she knows is about to hit her in the back of the head::

So, to sum up... Everyone should just take a deep breath, and think happy, healthy thoughts before we start looping the noose around the nearest tree. hugs

It's sad but Amy actually understands them, she even understands what JP's company did, I never have.

As far as SS's posts, I do what I do with the political posts, I skim through them or ignore them entirely, it's always an option wink

Since everyone else is throwing their two cents in, I will too.

I think Zoo put it quite well...I find it unlikely that SS is trying to do anything other than be helpful....I have known SS for many years and because of all of that real world conversation, I can mentally translate his posts in a way those of you who dont know him cannot. Just like I can with Kims or Michaels or Jens posts.

What I can say is accusing him of arrogantly bogarting a thread on nutrition when his advice is actively being sought after by a majority of the posters is at the very least unfair.

I have almost successfully buried my geek science skills, so I can at least pretend I don't know anything about physics. I blame my job, which requires NOTHING from my schooling, except my lame class on MS Office and an ocassional stats formula. Those Physics and Math degrees are REALLY paying off. /end sarcasm

and yes, sometimes dr. sith's posts come off a little long winded or overbearing, but in that case, I either skim or skip. wink

i like getting free advice from someone that is getting a phd in that field. i also like reading my friends views on things. if stacy wants to get snooty telling me his analysis on a subject he is becoming a doctor in i am fine with that. i dont have to read it. this is an open message board and the rules we follow everywhere in life apply here as well. if you dont like what someone has to say, you dont have to read it or respond. i do it all the time. being playful or sarcastic is fine but play nice. i think SS has kept the advice in the advice thread, and if you dont want advice do go in there. but i havent read much in here that made it into the other thread. he is motivating, just like the rest of us.

on with motivation...

today i tried a "healthy" chicken wrap from sonic and it was the greasiest chicken i have ever seen. i think their grill in at the bottom of a fryer. i have been cutting way back on everything and i feel...happier plain

I tend to eat a bit healthier in the summer due to the abundance of fresh produce. There is an excellent farmers market within biking distance of my house, and I can really load up there for little moolah. I love veggies, but dont love their price tag during the cold months.

I have finally convinced my mom to nix some of the gazillion flowers in the garden and grow more produce as well. Yay summer!

That's what my physical therapist recommended. That and wine bottles in varying degrees of empty for increaded/decreased weight when you graduate from soup cans. The wine bottles work exceptionally well for wrist rotation exercises to strengthen all the little stuff. The neck makes it fairly easy to grab.

Today is walking day/Critter day! We got 1 year passes to the UnderWater Adventures at MoA - so whenever we want we get to go see aquatic critters! Yay! And they are open as long as the mall is, so we usually walk a mile or two around the mall and our cool down is at UWA. grin

somehow I'm down another pound, even though I did no other excercise this week than chasing the bug and a few sit ups here and there...and I definitely did NOT eat healthy this week. unless subway counts (with a cookie). grin

Although I do have to say the stress of watching him climb down stairs on his own has got to count for something. hypnotized
