Here is the news from today's Marvel earnings report, this is when Marvel gives dates for upcoming film projects:

Marvel plans to launch its 2010 film slate with the release of the sequel, Iron Man 2, on April 30, 2010, followed by the launch of Thor on June 4, 2010. Additionally, Marvel is planting its feature film stakes for summer 2011 with an Avengers-themed summer – a two-picture project which will debut on May 6, 2011 with The First Avenger: Captain America (working title), followed by The Avengers in July 2011.

Marvel plans no self-produced film releases in 2009.

It would seem to me that Tony Stark is the Bruce Wayne for Marvel and Iron Man is the Batman for Marvel. I mean there are differences but there are many similarities as well.

I disagree whole heartedly Shane.

The only similar things are They both don't have powers and they are both independently wealthy.
That's it.

Their personalities are not alike at all.

1. Tony is Arrogant to a fault.
2. Tony is a spoiled rich kid, not just playing it for appearance sake.
3. Tony is not brooding and dark.
4. Tony is not a detective, he's a industrialist.
5. Tony didn't need to travel the world to learn his ability, it comes naturally.

shall I keep going? grin

sorry pal, I have read both exclusively.

Oh! and I absolutely enjoyed Iron Man! I'd like to see it again.

Anyone notice him checking out the stats for The X-men's Blackbird inside the mask when he's flying for the first time around the city?

The only criticism I have about the movie, and it's small, but Terrance Howard as Rhodie was not a good casting choice. He does not fit the character at all. Didn't have the mannerisms or the look really. Too soft spoken and not enough attitude.

This really begs the question then of whether or not we limit the context of the discussion merely to the films, or to the extant comic universe as well. Based solely on the merit of the films, I feel that Shane has a point. If however, we open it up to include the entire comic oeuvre, then I have to wholeheartedly agree with Cory.

Saw the film. Loved it. I'm OK with SJ playing Fury, although I think there are much better actors available. After the disappointments of Spider-Man 3 and X-3, and the debacles of the Mediocre-Four, I'm anxious for some fresh perspective and some new characters. I'll admit that when I first heard RJD was cast as Stark, that I had some misgivings. Those however were proven to be unfounded, and I thoroughly enjoyed his interpretation of the role.

Can't say I'm really excited about the Hulk. What I've seen thus far seems pretty weak. Plus, I was never really much of a fan of that particular storyline in the comics. I like Ed Norton though, so I remain hopeful.

Right now, the only film I'm Jones-ing for is well...INDY IV. Three cheers for old folks kickin' arse!!!

I thought Howard was fine, he worked for the character as written.

It's not the same Rhodey, he's not a hotshot helicopter pilot during Viet Nam, who quits the army easily to go to work for Stark.

He's a Top Gun type guy, who's graduated from flying to being in the brass and giving orders and not wanting to leave the Air Force at Stark's beck and call.

Plus he showed the proper attitude in the "next time" scene.

I'm kinda burning out on SJ though. The scene was cool and blah blah blah, but... dude. There are other actors on the planet!. How many "Iconic" characters can one actor play before his fame begins to hurt the characters that he's playing? Nick Fury is Mace Windu... with an eye patch. plain
Lame.

The reason for casting Sam Jackson was very simple, I don't know if you read Marvel's Ultimates line of comics or not, in the Ultimates (their version of Avengers) the team is led by Nick Fury, wanting to update the character and make him "hip", the character design was based on Samuel Jackson, it's a total likeness.

So the casting was obvious. It was never going to be anyone else.

I saw Iron Man last night with my buddy Jason (Donovan is watching it right now with his family I think). I liked the movie. The whole cave scene was a bit too Hollywood, I don't think bad guys could be that stupid to not check on their hostages more, but after Stark's docktor friend died (which was emotional and very well done), the movie took off. Reallty, only the cave scene was the only part where the movie lacked. But overall, I think Iron Man ever beat-out Spider Man and X-Men/X-Men II for my favorite comic book turned movie films. Iron Man is now towards the top of my favorites list.

I'm assumimg, from after the end credits, there will be a second Iron Man? If there is a second movie and third movie, the questions remains if Iron Man will flop or double its success in the second movie (like Spiderman 2 and X-Men II, both doubling their success and being better movies then the first ones even I think), and if a third movie is made, will it flop like the other two did? Even Pirates 3 flopped, to an extent, depends on who you talk to I guess. Hollywood is having a very hard time making those third movies.

That just proves how and why Star Wars is once again one of the best storylines/movies ever made. Both ROTJ and ROTS were huge success's (although people would agrue on ROTJ, once ROTS came out, ROTJ made complete and utter sense and we now see that ROTJ was the best choice to end the Trilogy). No other movie/storyline has ever been that successful. When you look at Star Wars, really only AOTC was the only weak movie in the whole series; and although I would put TPM up there in the past, Tim was always right when he said TPM is one of the mostr important movies in the whole series, for Tim said something how when you watch TPM and then the rest of the series, TPM explains everything and the why-to's.

And what's the whole thing with the Averagers? I didn't understand that part, probably because I didn't read the comics.
