Awesome picture. I actually didn't catch the SHIELD reference until the very end of the movie when the guy finally said it.
I've seen the movie three times now, and I've enjoyed it at each viewing. I have to admit, I wasn't sure how Robert Downey Jr would work out as Tony Stark/Iron Man, but I completely bought his portrayal of the character. A strength of the movie is watching how the armor comes together, so a sequel is going to have to find a selling point that isn't a superhero cliche. I do admit I would happily watch Downey Jr as Tony Stark for most of the movie; I was just as interested in the Tony Stark character as I was in seeing Iron Man so the actors did a great job making their characters believable. Bring on War Machine, baby!

I have not seen this yet, but I still need to. I love Robert Downey Jr, he is such a great actor, to bad he had all the problems with the drugs a few years back. But he seems to be rebounding nice.

OK, finally got around to seeing this film. Not knowing anything about Iron Man aside from what I've seen in the Marvel vs. Capcom arcade games, I will say that I loved this film. I loved the Stark character and the make-believe technology was bad-ass. (One minor gripe was some of the military inaccuracies, but I'm not really gonna complain about that. )
Can someone explain something to me though... (I'm looking at you, comic book people)
After seeing the scene at the end with Sam Jackson, I was just curious about who Jackson's character was and what exactly SHIELD is in the comic book world. And does this mean we will be seeing an Iron Man/Hulk/Captain America movie in the future?

His character was Nick Fury who is the director of SHIELD, the Marvel Universe government agency kind of like homeland security and FBI and CIA rolled into one, but with super weapons and the ability to take on superheroes (and villains) as needed.
The recent massive crossover in Marvel comics called Civil War established Tony Stark as the director of SHIELD and established a Super Hero registration act where superheroes had to unmask and register with the government.
Nick Fury is actually an old white guy, but in the relaunched Marvel Universe called "Ultimate," Fury was drawn to look like Sam Jackson, so that's why his character in the Iron Man movie looks like him.
This does mean that we will be seeing a Captain America movie in the future and then an Avengers movie, which all three are a part of (more Iron Man and Cap than Fury, but there you go).

Happy to help! Marvel comics was my forte as a wee lad and it's great to see at least one comic book company putting out consistent, great movies.
Feel free to post any other comic-related questions and between me, O_W and gra-co, we'll fill in the blanks.

Thanks for the explanation. Can I safely assume that the Hulk isn't an Avenger and will not be a part of any future Iron Man/Thor/Captain America film?

If the thought of something makes me giggle for longer than 15 seconds, I am to assume that I am not allowed to do it. Claymore mines are not filled with yummy candy, and it is wrong to tell new soldiers that they are.
