Okay, maybe our arithmetic is different from British arithmetic, but how does 4 players per team with 5 games per player come out to only 12 games?
Shouldn't it be 20 games?

Actually we're both wrong. It's 16 games. Each player plays 4 games (and there's 5 rounds in a game)
