jedi_of_ennth posted: I hope, if Zekk ever decided to propose to Jaina, he would realize that Jaina is the only one whose permission he needs. After all, she's the Sword of the Jedi and over thirty years old; I really hate this idea that Jaina's suitors should ask for Han's permission to take her hand in marriage
I completely agree with this. Zekk should not have to defer to Han, or Leia. He loves Jaina, and has never treated her poorly, that should be enough for him.
However, he instead fawns over the more classic image of masculinity that is Jag and Kyp. I do not mean to insult these characters, but it seems that their overall attitudes mirror Han's closer than Zekks. Frankly I just want Zekk to tell off the entire Solo family and not take their abuse anymore.

I always had Zekk take Jaina's last name in my fics. The only other family he's got is Peckhum, and even he doesn't have a last name.

I'm actually going to delurk, because I don't think that Han necessarily doesn't like Zekk for Jaina, but when it was a possibility that the two could be together, they had just spent all that time being joiners.
My impression of his actions was that the situation had freaked him out. Heck, the joiner thing freaked me out. And the fact that when they finally were separating, Zekk didn't go completely away, his presence with her is a constant reminder of what happened back then.
If the Joiner thing never happened, he'd probably be more open to them as a couple. But then again, if the Joiner thing never happened, would there be a relationship to warm up to? We'll never know.

You make a good point Lola64, but I think my problem comes from the fact that he only directs this dislike to Zekk, and not Jaina. I would even be ok if he just talked to Jaina alone and said that he didn't like Zekk, but to insult him infront of family, where Zekk as a guest has no real means of defending himself seems a bit too harsh.
That said, I do think that you are right about the Joiner issue being the focal point of his anger, and not Zekk as a person.

Zekk would ask for Han's permission and he would get it.
Because the only way he'd be asking for Han's permission is if the writers decided J/Z is the way to go.
And call me old-fashioned, but I like the concept of a suitor approaching the father.
I think those are the sorts of values that Zekk holds.

I can agree that the Joiner thing probably freaked Han out, and had him concerned, but I also have to agree that Han's rather abrasive manner toward Zekk, while he bears no ills to Jaina, seems odd. Of course, he loves his daughter, but if it was the Joiner thing that had him thrown for a loop, wouldn't there be at least some akwardness about it between the father and daughter?
I'm going to jump in on the 'asking the father's permission' thing and agree that it's ultimately Jaina's decision. Besides, I personally, haven't seen evidence that asking for the father's permission even is a tradition in Star Wars. Of course, that could be because everyone and their grandmother's cousin were involved in a some war or another and died, or were lost somehow.
I don't know- the way I think of it, their galaxy is so modernized and different, I just don't imagine they're in the practice of asking permission. Just how I imagine it, is all.
Besides, Jaina's certainly old enough to make her own choices- she's long passed the point of relying on her parents to guide her. And even if Han consented or refused, I'm not sure she'd abide by his word, anyway.

Okay, so I had some time on my hands yesterday, and this is what came of it: Vent Crawler.
I know Zekk technically already has a fansite, but it hasn't been updated since summer '06.
What do you think?

Cool site ZekksGoddess, I love the layout. It is always good to see more Zekk fansites on the web.
So I got some spoilers from Invincible for us Zekk fans. I haven't finished the full book yet, but there is some major news.
Basically Zekk is MIA by the end of the book. His StealthX is shot down, and they don't find his body with the wreckage. So, we can add survivng a ship crash and explosion to the list of horrible things that have happened to him. So anyone else read this and can find a positive spin for these events?

Other than the fact that Denning is obviously setting him up for a major role in his next contributions to the post-NJO EU? I'm not sure that's a good thing--it didn't really work out for Raynar and Alema, after all --but at the same time, I don't think Denning will take the same route with Zekk. IMO, he knows the character too well to shove Zekk into a cookie-cutter villain role; I'm going to trust Denning to eventually take Zekk in some mind-bending new direction.

Nice! I like it a lot and wholeheartedly applaud your efforts on behalf of Zekk. Also, that b&w Jonathan Rhys Meyers pic made me goggle at my monitor. He's always been one of my possible Zekks, but that photo is amazing.

I hope you're right J-O-E, because the alternative is just depressing.
I do think you are right to have faith in Denning though, in some ways I think he gave us Zekk fans exactly what we have been calling for, his seperation from Jaina. With him MIA he can return to his survivor roots, and become a truly powerful/intimidating character.

While I am disappointed that my shipping desires probably won't happen, I've come to believe that the b!tch doesn't deserve him anymore. In all honesty, the guy who gets Jaina will probably be the LOSER as opposed to the winner! It just shows that the guy who ends up with her probably can't stand on his own without being tied to her. And Zekk is WAY too good for that!
So, when you think about it, who is the better man?
Though, I still would like it if the NJO/DN/LOTF was retconned out of existence. I miss the YJK group so much.

IMO in order for Zekk's character to survive, he needed to free himself of Jaina and that whole situation. However, I find the MIA thing too similar to Jag's and as a fan of Zekk I'd like to see him break away from that comparison.
I'm not sure Denning would have a say in Zekk's outcome. Isn't the main story line passed down from the powers that be? I can see them saying bring him back and make the villain.
That might have worked in LoTF; if Zekk was shot down over Tenupe and came back for the LOTF series to do in Jaina and Jag and everyone connected to them. That would have made a better story than Jacen's fall, for sure.
But if they did it now that Jacen was gone, it would be too close to the mark they tried to hit with that storyline.
That being said, I am hoping for a good outcome to his situation.
In the meantime, hopefully the Zekk fanfic writers will give us some great possible continuances of his story. .

Anyway, here's hoping for mind bending...

Troy Denning is answering fan questions over here. I thought this might interest my fellow Zekk fans:
Zinnos posted: My question is why you or someone involved in LOTF felt it necessary to make Zekk go missing? I am not criticizing it, I just don't understand how it fit into the storyline or if it will in the future.
Troy Denning posted: Basically, every quest requires a great sacrifice, and Zekk was what Jaina had to sacrifice to get to Caedus. (In non-mythic terms, he wasn't going to let her attack the Solo alone, and she wasn't going to turn back. Not being nearly the pilot she was, he just couldn't make it inside.)
As for why Zekk went missing--I just couldn't bear to kill one of my favorite characters. Or maybe Shelly and Sue couldn't bear to let me kill him . . . it all gets so blurry in the rearview mirror.
