I don't like Zekk disappearing. I can smell an Alema 2.0 here. And I don't trust Del Rey to do good for him. He's been screwed over nine ways from Sunday since the beginning of the NJO.

Our boy's alive folks, now we just need to figure out what he will do when he comes back.

Well if the authors make any connections between previously introduced characters and plot lines we can hope someting "astral" comes of this [I'll use Astral lightly here]
Have any of the characters ever made a second trip to the darkside? [You can't count Kyp's "lightswitch" flicking in the first half of NJO]. I mean a real trip..all the way? Zekk did command the ship to find someone worthy. I can just see ship floating around waiting for that worthy being, and then there's an unconscious Zekk floating EV and the ship takes him away [to Korriban!  ]
I just hope he doesn't come back ugly.  Jag seemed to come back intact! But not Alema or Raynar! So I'm hoping it's more like Jag than the others.

I am actually very worried that something like this is going to happen. Part of me hopes that Del Rary won't make Zekk a sith, especially right after they used that plot device on Jacen.
I expect that Zekk is going to be pretty banged up when he returns. I'm guessing that he will be emaciated, and probably missing a limb, but that will make his survival even more impressive. I don't think that they are going to make him ugly though. Instead he will probably be more intimidating then he was before.

I would like to see Zekk return with an edge to him. Watch, Jaina will think that's all hot!  I think Denning went for that a bit in SBS. Anakin keeps reminding people of how dangerous he is and that they shouldn't make him angry.

I went to Troy Denning's Denver book signing on Thursday; during the Q&A, I asked him to talk a bit about Zekk--why he likes the character, how he views the character, etc. He said, among other things, that he likes Zekk's strong sense of morality. As part of his answer, he also mentioned that he is a Jaina/Zekk 'shipper. In those exact words.

Cool post J-O-E, it is really cool that you got to meet Denning. Glad to here that there are some J/Z writers out there.
Lately i've had a problem when it comes to writing Zekk. With most of the characters in the EU, i have a sense of what their motivations are, or what they hope to accomplish with their acts, Zekk on the other hand, I can't quite figure out. Frankly I don't have a great idea what Zekk want's out of his own life.
Now I know young Zekk was primarily focussed on just surviving day to day, and most likely had modest dreams of a stable and healthy life in the upper middle levels of the city. It is just that I don't see those small goals staying with him through his carreer as a Jedi.
I get that Zekk is not a dreamer, he is more of a realist than most of the Jedi, which is why I like him so much. I just wonder sometimes if he has any reason to be a Jedi anymore. He doesn't like the government he is protecting, and he does not share the same ideals as some of the masters like Kyp, so why does he do it, Jaina can't be the only reason right?
I am just currious if any of you other Zekk fans have faced this problem, and have any ideas.

The way I see it, Zekk is still driven by the desire to matter. He wants to make something of his life, of the skills he has been given--not for his own sake, but for the sake of those he can help as a Jedi Knight. I believe he is also still trying to atone for the mistakes he made as a teenager. He wants to overcome his past by proving to himself that he can control his anger and his power. At his core, he just wants to be able to trust himself. In Fury, we see that he is still susceptible to the dark side, which proves, to me, that his zeal is more than paranoia.
As attached as Zekk is to Jaina, I don't think she has anything to do with the path he follows now. He loves her, yes, but he rarely places more importance on her than on his conscience. After his outburst in Fury, when he essentially gave himself over to the dark side to save her life, I wonder if he won't reconsider his attachment to her in light of his shortcomings. Perhaps he'll come to see his love for her as more of a liability than a strength.
