It's at times like this, you can't help but wonder what the hell they were smoking at Del Rey. I mean, I know it's Star Wars, and thus conflict is pretty much a necessity, but why did they have to screw everything up?
Sure, they could have still use the whole Yuuzhan Vong invasion and all that, but they should have still used the YJKs and their friends. They had so much solid gold potential, and they chose to piss it all away! They chose to kill half of them, and then shove the rest into obscurity.
And one thing that I will NEVER understand (no matter how hard I try) was why the hell did they bring Jagged Fel into it, and put Jaina with him? No offense to any of his fans, but I still can't see what his appeal is. And at the very least, we wouldn't have this whole J/J/Z division.
You know what? I loved the YJK series very much. More than anyone can hope to understand. And with the NJO series, Del Rey chose to take what I loved, and they not only destroyed it, they raped and mutilated it's corpse. I will never forgive them for that.
But what the hell do I know? To them, I'm just another pathetic fan.

I liked the NJO, and I liked DN, and I like LotF. I understand where the hatred comes from, but I don’t share it, and I wish we could discuss YJK here rather than how Del Rey raped everyone’s childhood, set up the slave trade, started the French Revolution, caused global warming and invented the very notion of war.
They chose to kill half of them, and then shove the rest into obscurity.
Let’s say we have ten core main characters from JJK/YJK. Jacen, Jaina, Tenel Ka, Zekk, Lowbacca, Raynar, Lusa, Anakin, Tahiri, and I’ll even throw in Em Teedee as a bonus. Of those ten, only three (Lusa, Anakin, Em Teedee) are dead. That’s not half. That’s not even close to half.
Of the remaining seven, Jacen, Jaina, Tenel Ka, Zekk, Tahiri and Raynar have all had fairly major roles in post-YJK profic. Jacen and Jaina, obviously, as they’re Solos and therefore automatically guaranteed the spotlight; Tenel Ka and Zekk were major minor characters in DN and LotF; Tahiri was a major player throughout the NJO, and Raynar had his chance to shine (erm … burn?  ) in DN.
I love YJK. It’s a great, fun series. It has its amazing moments and it has its inconsistencies and it has its fair share of *headdesk* situations. It introduced great characters, and whether these characters were developed the way you would have chosen to develop them or not, they have factored into post-YJK EU.

Hehe. I agree with Emerald_Lady!!!  Very well put.
But to echo several others, they had so much to work with at the end of YJK! Instead of using these as major(ish) characters, we brought in a bunch of totally new people. Danni and Jag, for instance. I've got nothing against them, mind you, but did we really need them?

Oh, yeah, hi to everybody else, too!  I'm Grand Admiral Sean, newly converted from the StarWars.com Books, Comics, and Television Forum. I actually signed up for TheForce.net specifically to take part in the larger Young and Junior Jedi Knights community. I've gotten the vague impression that the online J.J.K. fandom amounts to an hyperneurotic Masonic-type cult...so I should fit in perfectly. As long as Anakin is still the nerd, Jaina is still the tomboy, and Jacen is still the goof, I'm all aboard.

Thanks for the welcome! And, hey, if you feel like having the same discussion in two venues, any help on the Forums would be hot. 
Y'know, I think there is a chance for a resurrection of the Y.J.K. -- but it's the responsibility of us fans to make ourselves known to the wider Star Wars community. We need to speak out in as polite a fashion as possible, and if the good folks at Del Rey hear enough voices to give them pause, who knows what might result? Start those raindrops fallin', and sooner or later, we might amount to a flood.

Welcome, Sean. and they threw away toomuch of the YJK for my liking. I basically don't take any of LOTF as canon. In fact, I'm not sure if I take anything from DN aside from Allana's existence as canon.

I'm re-reading Lightsabers right now, and I have a question for you lovely YJK fanpeople:
Did any of you read the series in order? If so, how did you react to Tenel Ka's lightsaber accident and injury? I jumped into the series with Delusions of Grandeur, so I was spoiled for the entire Shadow Academy arc.

I read the series in order. I think I saw Heirs of the Force in a bookstore and picked it up, and I was hooked from there. I remember being pretty shocked by TK's accident, although I was (and still am) rather bewildered over her refusal of a prosthetic. I understood all her reasons, but after having learned her lesson, I don't think having a mechanical arm is something she would just forget. But I digress. So yes, I found it suitably shocking.

All in order.  I picked up the books right as they were published. I actually remember the loooong wait for Jedi Under Siege. Back then, you could find anything on the internet, and I found KJA and Moesta's email address and asked when they planned on having the next book out. Whether or not it was real, I was pretty stoked when I got a reply saying that I could plan on about three months' wait.
I remember feeling like the loss of Tenel Ka's arm was surreal... I didn't even believe it had really happened until the next chapter, when nobody had awoken from a bad dream!

Sorry if this question seems a bit much, but I'm an emotional person, and I fell I must ask this.
Throughout the YJK there were so many factors that made us fall in love with it. Characters, stories, personalities, relationships, and so on. The NJO did a serious number on that. Now during the LOFT, it is getting shaken up again. So the question I ask you is this:
Will any aspect of the YJK that we used to love, ANY AT ALL, survive beyond LOTF? If so, what do you think it could be?
For instance:
-Does Zekk still have a chance with Jaina, or will she remain single or go back to Jag?
-Will Tenel Ka survive? And if Jacen dies, will she ever love again?
-Will any of the other characters ever return to regular continuity?
-How will Allana be raised?
and so on.
These are just examples, though. There are many others that you could add.
And I apologise if these questions seem a little too deep, but I guess I am asking you to search deep within your hearts for this.
