Iron_Fist posted:I can't stand Crappy Potter. I got a call yesterday from Suncoast saying that the book would be in...but I never reserved that crap. Yeah, Sats, play fair. If you don't like it, can't you state it simply and without insult, like the Grand Admiral did? You are supposed to be setting an example, being high up and all. Like Jaina said, it's just as bad as what we're supposed to be against. I_F
jedi_master_ousley posted:Shawn, it is extremely hypocritical to bash Harry Potter in the EUDF thread. Please don't do it again. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of defending literature that one likes, doesn't it? That being said, this book was AMAZING. I'd suggest that those interested in discuss it join the discussion in my HBP spoilers thread in JCC.
saberlord99 posted on 7/17/05 5:54pm I would like to think that I am not the only one who thinks that EUDF stands for the much larger idea of a right to talk and discuss something you enjoy free of negative talk. I would also like to think members of the EUDF would respect this idea pretty much in every post they think about typing. The test of believing in an ideal is if you yourself can be on the end of having to hold any negative, non-constructive, non-original, ill-thought comments you may wish to say. I hate any number of fan-fictions, games, and movies people post that are in no way Star Wars related, you know the remedy? DON'T POST! It is a novel idea, having to keep silent, one many of us should try from time to time. If this organization is no longer one that believes fans of any literature or media have a right to speak of something without the EU is PU-esque comments, perhaps it is time to disband. Or find a new direction.
jedi_master_ousley posted: ... and you're point is what, exactly? You're doing exactly to the Harry Potter fans what our goal is to stop people from doing to the Star Wars fans. I don't care what type of message boards we're at, you're still being a hypocrite and rude to people who actually enjoy the series. It is immature and sets a bad example and could create a bad image for the group for whoever might be lurking. Your bashing of something we like is no different to us than someone bashing the EU. This isn't the place for that. If you don't like it, tough. Ignore our discussion about it. For someone who is second in command, I would think you'd be a bit more mature about the situation instead of dancing around saying "wah wah, I can bash what I want because these are Star Wars boards!" Maybe you should think about what you're posting before you do it and understand the consequences of doing so. People aren't going to be happy, and people are going to point out the hypocrisy in such statements. So, again, I ask that you please stop, and let us enjoy whatever series we so happen to enjoy. Our goal in the EUDF is to stop bashing, and it'd be nice if you could keep our base free of bashing of any kind.
Mission Statement: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The PURPOSE of the EU Defense Force is to defend the Expanded Universe, its fans, and its creators from the vicious attacks, misinformation, bigotry and intolerance perpetrated by “EU-Bashers.” Our goal is to defend the rights held by the fans of the Expanded Universe (also known as “completists”) to use the Expanded Universe as a basis of their posts across the forums without fear of personal attack. The Expanded Universe Defense Force’s goal is also to defend the right for completists to enjoy Expanded Universe material without fear of being persecuted or belittled by the “bashers.” The fans of only the movies (known as “purists”) generally do not fit into this category, but we must be ever careful of those who do. Such bashers vary in intensity. Some only attack the EU when mentioned in speculation. Some attempt to say that EU-based discussion has NO PLACE in certain Forums. Some attack the EU AND the person who mentioned it. Some attack the EU, the person who mentioned it, the author of the book, his fans and anyone else remotely involved. Now there are some people who like the EU, but disagree about its use in speculation. These are NOT bashers. There are also some who dislike the EU personally, but don't shove that fact down anybody's throat, but simply state their viewpoint with civility. These, also, are NOT bashers. Now let me tell you what the EUDF is NOT: We are NOT a group who goes around and forces people to like the EU. We are also NOT a group who runs in and argues every time someone says the EU is stupid or something. We are only interested in when those people start attacking speculators, fans, or the right of fans to speculate. Everyone is free to enjoy the EU as much or as little as they choose. We are the Expanded Universe Defense Force, not the Expanded Universe Attack Force. Our goal is to pacify EU-bashing flame wars, NOT to incite them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
