I know im not the Senator but i just want to remind people to cast a vote. Hopefully Sorri will be on to do it before the time is up.
Elections have started for Chancellor and Vice Chancellor in the Senate. The candidates are between MASTERPRENN/Thrawn1786 and TypoCelchu/s65horsey.
Voting is now open and will run until Sunday 11:59pm board time. Just post in this thread who you want to vote for
Speeches:
MASTERPRENN
I'm going to answer the user activity in the Senate question right now, because it ties in with what I'm going to say.
I have no idea.
Sure, there's plans, there's games, there's the tours, etc. But really, I'm not creative enough to come up with many other quality plans. And as Chancellor, I think that's a good thing. So here's the deal. I have my opinions, and I'm fairly level headed as far as what's a good idea and what's a bad idea (tough I'm almost up for trying most constructive things at least once, I don't like to limit ideas). My job as Chancellor would be not only to come up with ideas and plans (which I have done) but also to put other's ideas in motion.
That's where you come in, EUC. The first thing I would do as Chancellor would be to post a message in every thread (I'm not talking about copy/paste here, that's not my style) asking for ideas and opinions. I have my platforms, and I have my plans, and I'll get into those when I have more time. But an important part of leading is listening, and I can't listen if people aren't talking. So this is what I'd like you Senators/Users to do. Please, PM me your ideas. Anything. No idea (that's at least somewhat possible/coherent) is too crazy/too dumb/too ridiculous for me to hear. The thing is, every Chancellor wants to see improved participation. But that hasn't been happening, and that's because we haven't necessarily pooled our resources, and we're all too afraid of looking ridiculous. That's why I'm a good man for this job. Do you know anybody more ridiculous than me? You don't have much to be afraid of along those lines. I'm not going to mock you. If anything, I'll give you awesome points for at least trying, or something. This problem will take the entire EUS and EUC to solve, not just me or Typo and our administrations. So, starting now, my PM box is open. For anything. What do YOU want? Tell me. What are your ideas? Tell me. What's your opinion? Tell me.
Or post it in the thread, I don't really care. I just know that I'm not going to solve this problem with any plans that I have come up with, and I need your help. I also know that this is true for many of the problems that will arise during my Chancellorship. And that's my shtick this time around.
Can I come up with some pretty good ideas and plans, and would I be able to execute those? Sure. Would it be better for me to simply be the person in charge of listening to ideas, providing feedback, helping with the execution and success of those ideas, and then coming up with anything that I need to personally to fill the gaps that remain? Frick yes.
And that's my vision. That's what I want. I want to hear what you guys think. Everything. Don't hold back. Please. PM me. Post. Whatever. What do you think? About anything EUS/EUC related? Let me know. Do you have an amazing idea involving small ponies and Hungarian Ninjas with a mean appetite for bamboo? I want to hear it. No holds barred. The gloves are off. No idea is too out there, and any good idea will at least be considered by myself and my staff, whether I make Chancellor or not. Communication. That's how we'll be effective, and that's how we'll grow. Let's see it happen.
TypoCelchu
Okay, I have returned, and am fully able to give a short and sweet report on what I wish to see in the next term. Apologies for the absence yesterday, but you only get so many 21st birthdays.
At any rate, I think it's important to note that there very likely will be little difference on policy matters when it concerns the opinions of Prenn and myself. Having discussed, both recently, and in the past, current matters concerning the Senate, I've found that both of us tend to share similar views on most Senate matters.
Concerning the direction of the Senate, it's notable that overall participation in the process is still relatively low. Is that entirely the fault of the Senate itself? I rather think not, as participation within the community itself has been in decline. The success of the tours has been evident, and overall views of the Senate tend to remain relatively positive in more recent times. However, there still seems to be a lack of interest in participation. Some feel that working within the Senate may be too difficult, or too time consuming, or perhaps even unnecessary. Over discussions with other users, it has become obvious that many feel that the Senate plainly does not need their input. Some feel that it does not want it. It is our goal, of course, to improve community participation within the process, as seen through the EUS Tours, which will continue to run with new blood and renewed interest. It is our responsibility to allow our constituency our time and attention so that we can address issues that are important to them. This can be accomplished through open lines of communication between the constituency to their senators, or even to the Public Affairs Minister OR Vice Chancellor, OR even the Chancellor. All of our PM boxes should be open, Senator, Minister, or Chancellor, to address the needs of those who we represent. That's the whole point of this democratic experience, no?
Further points will seem rather simple, and for good reason. My VC Candidate, Horsey, has kep the ship navigating in the right direction, so to speak, and course corrections won't really be necessary. We want to keep the Tours going, and I intend to also encourage our 'youth' (in terms of registration date) to become more involved in our works. I also intend to keep a solid rotation of games and various holidays and events, as suggested by our constituency. The Weakest Link has been fairly successful in it's run, and Holiday Balls and other celebrations are notoriously successful in their outcome.
Also, a hot matter that often comes up during my campaigns is the past use of the Strike System. I intend to NOT use that system during the next term, but DO intend to personally 'meet' with some of the less participatory Senators in the hopes of pulling them back into the fold. As I have mentioned in the past, sometimes a gentle hand from the Chancellor can help some Senators realize that they haven't been as participatory as usual. There's absolutely nothing wrong with not being able to participate as well as you thought you could, and allowing a Senate position to a more able and interested person would be a positive step foreward. And all of that can be brought about by gentle guidance from the Chancellor. Should some Senators feel that they can't live up to the job, I hope to bring in new blood to the Senate through recruitment drives fueled by the Tours. These 'new' Senators can easily be guided by both the Internal Affairs Minister, and a possible "Senior Senator, Junior Senator" pairing programme that could easily bring newer members up to speed on senate proceedings.
And one final point before I wrap it up. As I had previously mentioned in past runnings, I intend to keep EUS centered discussions on a lower scale, and possibly even tabled if they are unnecessary. Constitutional Amendments are often not necessary, and can easily draw the Senate into internal dispute that is not conducive to community growth. If, and only if, a rather LARGE issue comes forth that can only be solved by amendment, I will make way for such discussions.
In summary, it is not too far a stretch to see the similarities between myself and my opponent. We both agree on community growth, accessibility, and general functions. The major difference, I believe, is the level of experience in Senate and Community matters between ourselves. Horsey and Myself have both served past terms as Chancellor and filled Senate and Ministerial positions for some time. We also are both community leaders in both a literal and figurative fashion. I can honestly say that Prenn and Thrawn1786 are both great people, and more than able to hold the position. But, in the end, the overall experience falls to Horsey and myself
I vote for some new blood Prenn/Thrawn1786

OMG I completely forgot about this thread and the Hoojib Puppies! Gah!
You don't say.
I'm about ready to launch into a tangent about how much I've missed you, but with each of the million or so times that I've done that in the NUS you've ended up completely missing it. So I'll save myself the effort, for the moment.
I know im not the Senator but i just want to remind people to cast a vote. Hopefully Sorri will be on to do it before the time is up.
No can do. My Vice Chancelleriality prevents me from tending to any specific thread. Nor can my erstwhile replacement do it, as he seems to be covering the IKFC...
Rohniss? r_w? Would either of you like to do the honors?
What about you, Reva? You're supposed to be a Senatorial Aide for this thread, after all.

Yeah, I'm somewhat stuck at the moment, Senator-wise, with the IKFC.
Tee, who do you represent?
Dom, you can vote as Vice Chancellor, don't forget.

I'd been planning to reserve my vote so as to save horsey from having to do any tie-breaking, but with things as they are, I'll probably end up absataining.

1 person voted for Prenn, dom abstained. You can vote for Prenn and then vote for him in the Senate, or you can vote for Typo and then abstain in the Senate. Your choice.

I vote for Prenn I guess, because I got colors from his contest idea.
Why do I have to vote in the Senate? isnt that the Senator's Job?

Yes. But we kinda didn't have a Senator.
But not no more. With my term as VC up, I'll be resuming my duites here. Home sweet hell.

Aside from that...are you able to continue [sic] being a Senate aide? Or will I have to draft Rohniss?
