I was surprised at how much he was used in SbS and the beginning of DJ. I'll have to reread the earlier NJO novels again to see how much he was included. The only thing about Stover was that he said that Ganner had always wanted to be a hero-wannabe and whatnot but, as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I just didn't see him like that in any of the earlier books. What do you think Ganner would've been like if he was still alive during DN and LotF?

Feared and respected by the Vong...but most likely he'd be Jacen's apprentice instead of anakins once love.

shock I seriously doubt he'd be Jacen's apprentice. I think he'd be one of the Jedi to oppose him, not be in league with him.

Well honestly I don't think that one single jedi really would follow Jacen unless he had something to make them or twist them with now. It's a real shame they didn't have Jacen do things differently. I would have loved to see the New order split between those that followed Jacen and those that Follow Luke. Reborn order verse the New Order line. Of course you'd have Jaina following Luke but have Ben, Ganner, TK, and a few other key names like Kyp following Jacen....

I don't think that Kyp and Ganner would have followed Jacen. After Ganner became less arrogant, didn't he start to respect the older Jedi? I don't see him ditching Luke's headship for Jacen's. If it was Anakin who was leading, maybe. But from what I remember, neither Kyp nor Ganner had really respected Jacen. If there had been a split, it makes more sense that Kyp would be the leader, if he really wanted to oppose Luke, instead of Jacen. And as for Ben, if Jacen had established an Order that riveled Luke's, I highly doubt that Luke and Mara would have allowed their son to apprentice himself to Jacen in the first place.

Does that all make sense?

Honestly, I don't think Kyp would ever join Jacen. I remember a line in one of the NJO books stating that Kyp considered Jacen to be a spoiled brat. Kyp never really came eye to eye with Luke and I don't think he ever will, but I can't picture him joining Jacen. Goodness, no. I think he'd leave everything and do whatever the hell he wanted to. happy

Ooooh, this would make a great discussion in the KDFC. grin

Anyway, if given the change, I think Ganner would have been a wonderful character. He changed during NJO and I still think it's messed up that he died. The death scene was a memorable one, but not necessary. At least I don't think so.

Ganner would have become a great Jedi Knight and later better Jedi Master, I believe.
As said, I can't picture him being on Jacen's side.

I'm thinking more Kyp and Ganner would join Jacen in hopes that they might convince him to return to Lukes side. Maybe even try to win back those that have joined Jacen to Lukes side. Although Kyp would have made a good split with Lukes order...possibly later on maybe....

I have to agree with Ceillean and MarasFire. I can't seeeither of them joining Jacens side for any reasons.

I'm thinking more Kyp and Ganner would join Jacen in hopes that they might convince him to return to Lukes side. Maybe even try to win back those that have joined Jacen to Lukes side. Although Kyp would have made a good split with Lukes order...possibly later on maybe....

I think Kyp, as well as Ganner, are more pragmatic and realistic when it comes to redemption. They wouldn't choose such a way to convince him coming back, especially not Kyp, considering his last experience with the dark side... He may be arrogant (less arrogant in the later books) but he is not so self-confodent and arrogant, when it cames to dark side matters.

Just my two cents happy

I think that faith in redemption is mostly a Skywalker thing.

I haven't read Traitor in a long while so could someone refresh my memory? Was Ganner's last stand necessary for Jacen's goal (which I don't exactly remember was - did Jace want to connect to the World Brain to defeat the Vong on Coruscant?) to be accomplished? Would Jacen have succeeded even if Ganner had never found him?

Jacen wanted to get into the Well of the World Brain to convert the World Brain. He needed Ganner to be his "practice sacrifice" to get in. And Ganner held off the Vong while Jacen did the converting and escaped. So, yeah, he was necessary.

I think Jacen is very like revan 4000 years back and if Jacen was to be redemed by someone talking him out of his dark views they could mention Ganner and his awesome sacrifice
