I can imagine certain types of armor making certain force powers dangerous or even impossible. Force lightning, for instance, might not be a good idea if you're wearing a metal suit of armor. Not sure exactly the science behind force lightning though, so I can't say for sure.
But otherwise, unless it's something like I just mentioned, I don't see how armor would weaken one's connection to the force. As Kev said, it's probably just a game mechanic to keep things fairly balanced.

Interesting. I think that armor can help the Jedi when they're fighting wars, and by that I mean large scale battles, like in Clone Wars. They're exposed to blasterfire from all sides and whatnot, so they need protection. I'm not sure how good would a full body armor do in a battle with another Force-user.  It probably is flexible, I mean, its advanced technology after all. But I think it would still provide some difficulties in comparison to a free flowing, unrestricting robes. And the Force is another issue as well. From what I've seen in games, wearing armor disables the ability to use certain powers. But a Jedi wouldn't need armor in the first place, since they have the Force - techniques and powers that serve them as armor and shield.
As for armor and connection to the Force... I don't know... Could it be that there are some difficulties with channeling the Force through metal and heavy gloves. Doesn't really make much sense tbh. Maybe one needs to move with speed and agility fr certain powers.
But armor is always a problem. Even in Dungeons & Dragons, armor causes arcane spell failure when worn by wizards of bards (arcane magicians). The heavier the armor, the greater spell failure percentage. It is explained that dexterity causes it. Armor can be restricting performing certain hand movements and complicated gestures when the spell component is somatic.
Although, In Star Wars RPG (not the new, Saga edition, the one before that, also WOTC), Armor Check Penatly applies only when using Force Lightning.

Hello, all, from your smaller neighbor, you know, the ones that originally came up with most of the same ideas that are in your original post. Is Master BOOSTERERRANT (or as we knew him, Padawan BOOSTERERRANT) still around?
So this is where the recruits in this forum have been siphoned off to. So it looks like you folks are mostly into roleplaying and EU-themed discussions these days?
A polite suggestion, BTW- a true Jedi attempts to treat even in a Sith in a reasonably civil and hospitable manner.
