Lit City: Discovery

When s65horsey – Sey – saw Trimaj and JediMasterAmanda approaching her office in their Jedi robes, she knew something was up. Amanda was typically pleasant, but Trimaj was carrying an air of concentration and overwhelming dread. Sitting at the border between EU City and Lit City, her office allowed people to cross from EU City across DarthAttorney bridge, and then the official running the Lit border would approve their visa.

Amanda pushed open the doorway with a smile, and Trimaj nodded, speaking first. “We’re heading to Lit City, Sey. We’ve just seen one of those Ewok battle droids enter the Cantina across the river.”

“So you’re likely to start a fight,” commented Sey, neutrally, sitting back in her office chair. The small building erected on the bridge was hardly worthy of numerous epithets denoting description – grey would suffice. Her Mod robes – green at the moment – were the most colourful thing in the room.

“More than likely, yes,” laughed Amanda.

Sey considered. Lit City was somewhat different to EU City. Where there were numerous buildings dedicated to the various ‘fan clubs’ and firms and variety of administrative buildings in EU City, Lit City had less permanent fixtures and more temporary buildings dedicated to discussion and debate. With little planning permission a Litzen could erect a building to discuss Darth Maul’s Resurrection, and discussion would follow. This required a dint more Mod policing than EU City, and so Lit City had four Mods acting as governors/police officers instead of the two that EU City had. Although Havac had displayed his prowess as Mod of War during the Wes Janson Crisis – where the coral-controlled fan club members and an blue-furred and red-eyed Ewok battle droid army had emerged to conquer EU City – violence was not generally accepted within Lit City as much EU City – which had a fairly low threshold of acceptability.

As such, all she could do was nod. “I thought as much. Well, I guess you’ll want me to come with you, then.”

Amanda nodded, again, her Jedi Padawan robes rustling. “Sinre asked if you could, yes. He can’t come because he’s busy juggling finances to repair the Sith firm.”

“Seems he expected you’d volunteer. He took our lightsabers,” said Trimaj, neutrally.

Amanda blinked, once, and Trimaj gave her a Force prod. Sey noticed the mind-rub, and was rather surprised Trimaj had used such an invasive technique. “Trimaj?”

“He wanted us to keep the violence to a minimum.”

“Ah.” Sey took that at face value, but couldn’t detect the lightsabers. She decided that Sinre had taken them away – which made sense – but his reason hadn’t been the one Trimaj gave her. Standing, she straightened her robe and gestured them to follow. “Come on, then. You saw the Ewok battle droid enter the cantina, you say.”

Amanda nodded. “It looked exactly like the ones Havac and dp4m tore up last month.”

Sey considered that as she led them across the bridge. Lit City appeared more foreboding than EU City, but that was only because of the numerous abandoned buildings – dropped debates – dotting the landscape. With the tallest buildings dedicated to the latest release of the Authors, several were bustling with activity and discussion; it appeared more clustered than the EU City which had view towers of note beyond its own Senate.

At the Lit Office, she watched the double-doors automatically swing open and mentally noted that EU City should really do that. A flicker behind her distracted the Mod, and she glanced back to see Trimaj and Amanda simply following. Shrugging, Sey saw that Master_Keralys was in the seat today. The relatively new Mod smiled beneath his beard, and held out his stamp. Sey gestured, and took the others passports. Trimaj’s had a lot more stamps than Amanda’s, showing how well travelled he was, but she didn’t see a recent Lit City one.

“Hey Keralys, we’re visiting the Cantina today, but I don’t think we’ll be doing much else.”

“Who’s checking things at your end? I didn’t see someone relieve you. I’m not up for checking and stamping both ends of the journey.”

“Oh come on,” said Sey good naturedly. “You’ve only just became a Mod. You can’t have become that worn out already. Surely the DL44 is still amusing you?” Sey gestured at the DL44 on his belt, something all Mod’s were issued upon their rise up. Occasionally used in EU City, she’d never seen one used in Lit City unless a particularly heated discussion between patchwork47 and Ulicus broke out.

Mildly amused by that, she took a more serious face, hoping Keralys would take the hint. “We’re investigating something about the Crisis last month. We believe a Mod is responsible for the attempt to take over EU City.”

“That crisis that involved kidnapping Souderwan and an Ewok battle droid army modelled on Thrawn McEwok?” Thrawn McEwok was, in-fact, a knee-high blue-furred and red-eyed Ewok. Nobody had seen him in the month since the Crisis, and if Sinre, Trimaj and Amanda had, then it had to be investigated. Keralys looked ready to stand and join them, but Sey shook her head.

“We need to deal with it ourselves. Stay here, and make sure nobody escapes Lit City, okay?”

Keralys looked unhappy, but nodded. Sey was an Imperial Knight over in EU City, and not to be messed with. They’d be fine, no doubt. “I’ll comm. Havac, have him head down.”

“Good.” Trimaj commented, deadpan, unimpressed by the display of Modly concern. “We need to catch this Mastermind once and for all.”

Sey nodded, while Amanda seemed to be devoutly reading the various holiday brochures about the ‘Lightsaber of Truth’ museum and the ‘Code of Conduct’ debate which had been stickied to the Notice Board. Slightly amused for many reasons, Sey lead them on. This was it, Trimaj decided.

Time to reveal the Mastermind.

---

They reached the Lit Cantina and Havac was already in position. The ever-curious BobaMatt had joined them, with Charlemagne19 – Charles to most – hovering behind the group. His concern was palpable, and Trimaj found it curious. Dismissing it, however, the group huddled.

“So, let me get this straight. You reckon McEwok attempted to take over EU City with an army of copies,” said Matt, raising an eyebrow. Folding his arms, his red VIP cloak rippled, and he shook his head. “I know he’s a little odd at times, but isn’t Sinre?”

“Sinre isn’t a suspect, though. He was attacked like the rest of us,” contested Sey.

Not to you, anyway, Sey, thought Trimaj. Amanda seemed to catch that thought, and frowned. He waved her on.

Havac already had his DL44 out in his hand, and waved Charles over. “Charles, we need you to head in before us, and draw out the civilians’ one at a time.”

“Wait,” said Trimaj, interrupting. “What if this ‘McEwok’ has accomplices? It would be pretty hard to assemble a droid army on your own.”

“Point,” said, Sey, looking at Trimaj with intensity. “So you reckon we should apprehend the lot of them?”

“I’d say so, actually,” Amanda agreed, showing a surprising amount of steel. She seemed to pushing her Padawan-level senses to detect malice, and had discovered a fair amount. “There’s something going on in there.”

Havac took her word for it. “Okay, so what we’ll do is - ”

The doors opened, and Ulicus breezed out. The entire group scattered, to get better views for attack. He simply jumped as much as the rest of them, scowling as Havac’s DL44 was pushed into his face. “What the Sith, Havac? You can’t -” His face brightened up as he saw Sey. “Hey, Sey. Ewok battle droid armies again?”

“Charming,” commented Sey. “Has McEwok been in?”

“Sure, he’s talking to Quest...” Ulicus, or ‘Sey’s Surrogate Sinre’, as he liked to call himself sometimes, blinked. “You reckon he and Quest are working together of all people? Quest is hardly the Caedus type.”

“You mean insane.”

“Well, yeah. Though I imagine Sinre would disagree.” Ulicus laughed.

Trimaj had had enough, and launched forward. His lightsaber dropped into his arm, and Havac, swearing like only a bearded-man seemingly could, followed. Sey thumbed her own lightsaber, and Amanda and the rest followed, Ulicus deftly stepping aside. Last time something had happened involving Havac, he’d been hit with a flying person and it had hurt like Sith.

“Nobody move!” Trimaj snapped, igniting his blade and pointing it forward as he pushed through the doors.

Absolute chaos followed shortly.

Standing off to the left, Rohniss, showing off one of his priceless antique projectile-firing pistols to SuperWatto, jumped and fired at Trimaj. He swatted aside the blow and Havac shot Robimus with a stun shot, on pure instinct, before blinking and shooting Rohniss to correct his mistake. Quest, jumping himself, moved from the bar away from Ewok and Excellence and fired a stun shot which hit Charles, knocking him out cold.

SuperWatto, a Toydarian, deftly flew up and away, while Trip, despite wearing trooper armour, dove behind the bar, diving down as Amanda telekinetically tossed Bly over the couch to the groups right, his clone armour clanking loudly. Swearing as he went, Sey cushioned his fall with the Force even as BobaMatt tackled Emperor_Time to the ground, Quiet_Mandalorian raising his hands to undoubtedly make a gentlemanly comment before Ulicus hit him in the face, spinning the helmet around to face the wrong way, which, of course, did nothing to someone with a three-sixty degree HUD, and Quiet dutifully hit him back. Trimaj, at the front, went for the Ewok, who was farthest away.

McEwok leapt onto Excellence’s shoulders and pointed his claws at the man’s neck. Excellence, sporting his New Republic symbol on that T-shirt of his, was babbling in metaphors that, in the heat of the moment, Trimaj had no understanding of.

“Nobody move!”

McEwok snarled, and the entire room fell silent, apart from said babbling from Ex. Quest and Havac, whom were pointing their blasters at each other, paused, and looked at the Ewok as his eyes glowed murderous.

“So, you’ve found me out. Me and my accomplices. A triumvirate, you’d say. Three people. Three cities. Three falls. Three wars.”

There was a tone to his voice that struck Trimaj as odd, and then Sey was beside him, her silver blade matching the outstretching of his. She hissed at him, her eyes glowing molten yellow, Trimaj belatedly remembering she’d had Sith training too. EU City had many people whom claimed titles of Jedi, Sith, Jensaarai, Witch and others. For this moment, though, Sey was definitely a Sith. “What the hell are you kriffing doing, Trimaj?”

Trimaj didn’t answer. He expected she’d launch into a tirade to let McEwok escape, and then the blue Ewok launched forward, hopping over Ex and kicking him in the head to push off at face-height. Sey, her eyes on the Jedi, went to move, but Trimaj went quicker, their blades crossing as their bodies clashed. Trimaj was about to prepare to kick her away and slice down McEwok and then turn on her – he expected this entire farce of a capture was her way of letting the suspect go - when the blue Ewok sailed in-between them, claws slicing a chunk out of Sey’s neck. Blinking, Trimaj instantly knew that she wasn’t a part of the mastermind conspiracy and pressed his hand to her neck, staunching the flow even as her mouth and his opened in surprise.

Turning back, he watched as McEwok leapt over Havac and Quest’s shots, and then slashed open the calf of each as it darted past. The two Mods went down, swearing at each other as much as the little Ewok, and as he watched, NickLitYouAFlame emerged from the shadows to slam the McEwok into the wall with the Force. The Sith ignited a crimson blade, and then the Ewok was scrabbling forward, leaping at Nick’s face and snatching the lightsaber from his hand, kicking Nick down.

Matt and Amanada barely reached the door when McEwok vanished into the City.

And, thinking of RPF City, the City where Nick spent most of his time, Trimaj remembered that dp4m had held onto his DL44 and ‘ban-stick’ Force pike when he’d dropped down as Mod. They needed to look into ex-Mods too.

And, thinking of RPF City and EU City, he could only think of one suspect with enough vested interest in taking over either City.

But, for now, it had to wait. As he and Amanda summoned the Force to stem the blood flow and speed the gathering of platelets, he knew that he had to make this up to Sey or Sinre, and probably Ulicus and Jello and half the male population of TF.N would try and kill him.

Sey’s eyes rolled into her head, and Trimaj caught her, cursing himself.

He’d made a terrible mistake.

This made me laugh a lot. Possibly more than the others, but I know these Lit guys fairly well so that could be why. For instance, I'm insanely amused that Charles was knocked out cold.

I may have to call Uli, Triple S from now on, that has a nice ring to it. wink

Excellent job, sweets!

But, shock that I've been knocked out!

RPF City: Remnants of a Past

With s65horsey – Sey – hospitalised by the fiendishly fast ThrawnMcEwok because of his fault, Trimaj had continued to follow the leads from the blue-furred, red-eyed Ewok. The Mods of Lit City had been injured, too, in the battle, which had turned into a farce. With a fair chunk of Lit City stunned or injured, Trimaj had found his efforts to track the Ewok stymied. He imagined the Ewok had a fair amount of pull in Lit City, so wasn’t surprised that various law suits had managed to be thrown at him.

To think, the mission to Lit City had started off with Trimaj trying to track down the mastermind of an attempted coup back in EU City, only to end like this.

After the third day, Trimaj snuck away and left his partner, JediMasterAmanda, behind to deal with the flack. His lightsaber still hanging on his belt despite himself, he went to cross Luceno Boulevard, sneaking upto the guard post.

“It’s empty.”

Trimaj jumped, glancing back at NickLitYouAFlame – Nick – and narrowed his eyes at the RPF Citizen. “Why?”

“I blew up Master_Keralys office, and he was on guard again.”

“Ouch. Didn’t he get anyone else to replace him?”

Nick grinned. “Nope. He was so annoyed he missed the last fight in Lit City he got up and ran there, sending a message to Havac’s comlink as the only Mod on reserve duty.” He held up a comlink. “A comlink which Havac doesn’t have.”

Trimaj nodded, slowly. “And you’re helping me why, again?” Trimaj wanted to do this alone, especially after his mistake had hospitalised Sey. If only he was at risk then he didn’t need to make sure nobody else was in harms way. Sure, Nick had attempted to stop McEwok at a key moment and seemed to be able of taking care of himself, but Trimaj didn’t want to take any chances.

“I brought some property in EU City. I don’t want it blown up in some ‘triumvirates’ master plan to take over a little portion of TF.N.”

Standing, and walking on, Trimaj allowed himself to be amused, “Such altruism, Nick. I’m impressed.”

Nick nodded, his booted feet making a clacking noise on the bridge’s stone which was harder than Trimaj’s Jedi-supplied boots. It reminded him that, in the EUC, Nick had just tried to join the Sith, and was being dutifully held at arms length until they were sure about him.

As they reached the other end of the bridge, he pushed open the doorway and prepared himself for a legal quagmire with whoever was guarding the border today. He was, after all, technically under arrest, had Havac not let him go on the sly. Trimaj, however, let his jaw drop in surprise, and Nick grunted.

Rather than sitting off to the side, like the other offices, the sole occupant had adopted for sitting in a hefty by antique chair facing the direction of Lit City, not even concerned with individuals coming from RPF City towards Lit City. The individual in the seat had his leg crossed over the other, and fingers steeped, looking over them.

He was Imperial_Hammer, one of the two Mods of the RPF City.

Trimaj hissed. “We’re in trouble.”

Nick ignited his lightsaber, crimson blade adding its own hiss to the chorus.

Hammer smiled, candidly. “I hope you’re not intending to use that. You may not need a license to use the Force here, but you know as well as I that if you use any weapons outside of a game, the consequences will be severe.”

Nick kept his blade active, narrowing his eyes. “You’re with ThrawnMcEwok, then. One of his ‘triumvirate’,”

“No,” said Trimaj, “he’s not. He doesn’t want a repeat of the Cantina in Lit City. A lot of people were injured because of, well, me.”

“Exactly,” said Hammer, leaning forward. “Is it going to happen again?”

Nick deactivated his blade, clipping it to his belt. “We hope not.”

Trimaj mentally winced, because no Mod in their right mind would give a chance to people who had just hospitalised –

“Good enough for me,” Hammer gestured them to leave, his gaunt features stretching into a smile. “ThrawnMcEwok is at the Game Designers Guild. He’s meeting with a member of his triumvirate. I have Saintheart watching them. The identity of whoever he’s meeting we haven’t been able to ascertain. You’ll need to capture them.”

“Some kind of cloak,” said Trimaj, “or is there something more complex on the other mastermind?” Nick glanced at him, and Trimaj continued. “At the end of the day, it’s the identity of these masterminds we need, not necessarily catching them today. We’ll get them eventually.”

Hammer nodded, his smile becoming more sincere, at least Trimaj concluded as much. “That’s the answer I actually wanted.” He looked at Nick. “Really, ‘we hope not’. Did you think that would get you anywhere?”

Nick appeared deadpan. “It was worth a shot.”

---

LightWarden was leaning on the wall outside the Game Designer’s Guild, giving a lecture to Ktala and Darth_nemisis about the role-playing issues of using a Grey-side Force user. Well, it was supposed to be a debate about the issue, but the building had been knocked down by a particularly interesting discussion.

Nick glanced at Trimaj as they strode over, the two holding their lightsaber hilts in their sleeves. “We don’t necessarily have time for moving them. McEwok may escape at any time, and we need the second member of the Triumvirate.”

Saintheart emerged from a shadow behind LightWarden, surprising the man. “I’ve hired a room for you to carry on, guys. LightWarden looked at the others, and Ktala shrugged.

“I don’t ask the questions around here.”

“Funny girl,” said LightWarden, leading them off. Nem glanced back at the trio, frowning. Nick simply nodded.

Sainheart, adorned in his electric orange Mod cloak, gestured a thumb back, revealing the newly-carved hole in the wall, and Trimaj found himself disappointed. It was lightly astonishing to see someone emerge from a shadow.

“McEwok and the individual they’re meeting with are all that remain. I’ve got out everyone else, and they haven’t noticed there’s no bartender yet.”

“Recording their conversation?” Nick narrowed his eyes, striding forward, lowering his voice so it wouldn’t carry.

Saintheart shook his head. “They’re jamming.”

Trimaj smiled. “Of course,” he resisted the urge to simply take the lead, trying to clear his mind and remember those Jedi teachings that he had learnt so long ago. Saintheart cocked his Mod DL-44 blaster, while Nick held his weapon ready. Trimaj waited, but Saintheart and Nick looked at him, Saintheart speaking.

“Well?”

Trimaj smiled, dropping his lightsaber into his hand. “Let’s go.”

---

Trimaj launched through the door, rolling forward as Saintheart fired over him. The bolt sailed over him as he rolled, he leapt up, touching the Force and moving forward. Looking up, Trimaj saw the blue bolt hit McEwok, surrounding him in nimbus light and dropping him to the floor, Nick's spare lightsaber rolling from his hand. As Trimaj used the Force to speed himself up, he watched as the black cloaked individual beside him was peppered with blaster shots coming from an angle suggesting that Saintheart had moved off to the right as planned.

The black revealed he was a Sith, a crimson blade deflecting the shots at random angles. Trimaj was forced to leap rather than block, Nick – standing behind him – sending the few bolts which crossed his slightly different path back.

Trimaj rebounded off a girder in the skeletal-supports in the roof, straight at the Sith, who was backing towards one of the exits. It was locked, and so, as the Sith abandoned controlled redirection for simple survival and bounced off door as it failed to open automatically, Trimaj ignited his blade and went for a blow which would stab into the Sith’s sword arm.

The Sith gestured, continuing the arc of Trimaj’s fall but redirecting it, tossing him into a wall. A loud crack saw him seeing stars, and when his sight cleared he saw Nick close into blade distance, preventing Saintheart from firing.

“Surrender,” said Nick, grimacing as he flicked his blade low, Sith meeting the tip at the hilt and sending the blow off, kicking Nick in the gut. Trimaj moved forward, even with what was clearly a mild concussion, slashing at his cloaked head, hoping to jerk his opponent so he’d reveal his identity. Sith attempted to throw him with the Force, but Trimaj stuck himself to the ground with the same means, his blow catching Sith’s face and driving him back, a hoarse scream rippling.

Trimaj reversed his blade, went for the spine, throwing all the Force into blow. They had one chance to stop this guy, and a crippling blow was the only way to stop him. A slip, and Trimaj would kill him, but he had to do this. He was a Jedi Knight, and he was supposed to stop Sith.

Wasn’t he?

Sith sidestepped, and Trimaj’s blade burst into the exit, shredding it at the centre. Trimaj pulled back, slashing, as the Sith pointed a gloved hand, slamming him back with the Force. Trimaj swore, crashing through the door entirely.

He looked up, feeling his arm was broken, saw Nick go for a double-handed blow to split the Sith. A final attempt, which anyone would see wasn’t going to work with someone this skilled. Dutifully, Sith spun about, elbowing the hands around the hilt before they came down, backing off as Nick dropped the weapon.

Sith went for the kill, Trimaj reaching with his free hand to push back Nick. Sith’s blade cut a gash in Nick’s upper chest, Nick howling, and Sith turned back, his face obviously artificially shrouded by some kind of hologram as Trimaj was staring into his face even as the cut hood flapped.

Then Saintheart finally caught up, having no use of the Force to keep up, and hit Sith with a devastating right hook. There was a terrible crunching, and Sith actually flew off his feet, some use of the Force or perhaps fate sending him through the door. Trimaj went up, grabbing at the cloak but missing. He rolled over, his arm protesting and preventing him from moving.

Saintheart fired a trio of bolts, trying to get past Trimaj, and he looked up, seeing the Sith darting into the city. Sith managed to get up and deflect two of the shots, the other hitting him. The stun shot lifting him off his feet, but Trimaj he croaked, “He’s using the Force.”

Sith stood, haggardly, Saintheart thumbed something on his blaster and firing a dart-like black projectile into Sith, who dutifully winced, his hand coming up to his thigh. Saintheart lowered his weapon, and looked down at Trimaj and Nick, both on the floor, both injured, Nick seething more than anything at the gash in his chest which had him incapacitated.

Saintheart shrugged.

“Well, at least we have McEwok.”

Trimaj looked at the Ewok, who was sprawled out on the floor, and probed him with the Force. “Pity someone’s robbed him of his identity and turned him into a Killik Joiner.”

“He’s not a member of the ‘triumvirate’?” Nick hissed, “I cut up my new robes for a pawn?”

Saintheart pretended to know what they were talking about. “Don’t worry. That dart pumped his bloodstream full of tracer cells. He won’t get very far.”

Trimaj collapsed onto his back. “So we’ve got them. All of them.”

“Yup,” Saintheart offered Trimaj a hand. “You’ve succeeded, Trimaj.”

“Thank the Force,” grumbled Nick, tentatively standing.

Trimaj smiled. “Endgame, Triumvirate. You’re finished.”

EU City: Endgame

It was a normal day in Adaml83’s life. But of course, it wasn’t what one would necessarily call normal. In the weeks since the Wes Janson Crisis, Adam had been searching for the mastermind. He did not remember when he had been turned into a coral seeded slave, but it had infuriated him, and the pilot had vowed, while Sinre sat back and let Trimaj, JediMasterAmanda and Nick lead their disastrous investigations outside of EU City, to stop this threat.

However, Adam believed the danger lay elsewhere, and was honing in not on the battle droids, but upon the DL44 blaster used by Rebecca_Daniels. It meant that the mastermind was a Mod, or at least one of this ‘triumvirate’ was. And so, he had focused on individuals who had been Mods. Darth_Attorney and Lord_Bane had long left EU City, and there hadn’t been a single lead found by any of the active Twin Suns with subsequent Mods. The Mods of EU City and other surrounding cities had fought against the Triumvirate, as well, so Adam actively dismissed them.

He’d honed in on NaboosPrincess – NP – who had left the Mod position over a year ago. And so, he sought to discover her last address, heading to the Post Office, to see whoever had been drafted to run the shop. A highly illegal DC-14 in his holster, Adam headed into the Post Office, currently attached to the now-defunct Rebellion Secret Base, his face set and grim.

“I’m getting to the bottom of this, today.”

--

The bell chimed on the door, and Adam strode into the Post Office. Sabre was on his own, and hastily shoved something through a mail box upon Adam’s arrival. It smelled faintly, but Adam pushed aside his thoughts as Sabre innocently spoke.

“Adam? What are you doing here?”

“Looking for an address?” Adam found himself sounding defensive, and folded his arms. He tried to look past Sabre, deeper into the empty post office, where someone was working behind the transparisteel. All he could make out was a shadow, and he needed to get this information before they vanished to do a chore.

“Really?” said Sabre, looking surly. “I’m Mr44’s partner, remember. I have authority.”

Adam actually allowed himself to laugh at that, and smiled. “Really, what authority?”

Sabre looked mildly offended, and then stuck out his tongue. “Alright. Whatever. Let me guess, it has something to do with the Wes Janson stuff.”

Gaze darkening, Adam growled. “What of it?”

“You were seeded, and want to find out who they are so you can feel better about the whole thing, especially as WG has recently been put into a coma over it.”

Adam’s expression grew menacing. “Who put you up to this?”

Sabre leaned on the ledge used for stamping datapads, and shrugged. “I don’t work for anyone, remember, Twin Suns Lead.”

“So, Addie,” Adam started reaching for his DC-14 as the shadow behind the transparisteel seemed to be jamming their hand frantically on what he assumed was a security button.

“Actually, it was me,” came a guttural voice, and as Adam turned he saw someone toss aside a cloak of Nuun, a Yuuzhan Vong becoming apparent under the stealthy attire. “Kecen,” said the warrior, narrowing eyes on face with a smashed nose and sloping forward. Adam winced, “And it was coral seeds which were harvested without our permission, and used on Blue_but_beautiful. That is unacceptable. The Gods demand an answer.”

“Well I don’t work for the gods,” Adam pulled out his DC-14, clipping a grenade launcher onto it and pointing it at the transparisteel in one smooth action. Sabre waved his hand in front of the nozzle, and Adam looked back, even as the shadowy figure started pulling away.

“Adam, wait, I’m working here today and I have NP’s address -”

“Sabre!” Adam snapped, ignoring him, and he lifted the weapon, firing. There was an explosion, and Sabre threw himself down, Kecen whipping out an amphistaff and coiling it around the DC-14, even as Adam pushed himself back off the floor to move in.

“Surrender, all three of you.”

The three of them looked up, into the transparisteel, the other two appearing confused. Adam saw the individual, standing clear. Cobranacondra, draped in the robes of an Acolyte of Revan, who frowned, clicking his throat.

“Cobra?” Adam returned the frown, remorse flowing up inside him. He’d almost killed Cobra, just like Trimaj had very nearly killed Sey and ruined -

“Adam,” said Sabre, “we can’t see anyone.”

“You can’t be serious,” said Adam, gesturing with his free hand, “he’s there, right in front of us.”

Clacking his teeth as if they were mandibles, Cobra yanked a blaster rifle from beneath what remained of the Post Office helpdesk, and Adam shoved Kecen aside. “Get down!”

Blaster fire lit up, and Adam and Sabre covered there heads, hiding behind a datapad post box. Adam snapped at Sabre. “Now can you see him?”

“I can see a lot of blaster fire!” Sabre leaned around, fired a silly-string pistol, of all things, some shots cindered on the way, others landing on Cobra. Even if they couldn’t see Cobra, they would be able to see the silly string and then –

Do ro-ik vong pratte!

Adam jumped, even over the explosions and rattling rifle, the noise of Kecen's war cry ringing out. Kecen launched forward, lashing her amphistaff out at waist height, blaster fire reflecting off pearlescent vonduun crab armour. Cobra danced back narrowly saving himself, and then leapt onto Kecen’s arm, still clicking madly in the back of his throat. It only then occurred to Adam that this had to be something different, as it was affecting the Force-blind Yuuzhan Vong as well.

As Adam watched Kecen fight against a foe he could barely half see, he heard a chime from Sabre. Looking back, saw him opening his datapad. Adam was about to snap that this wasn’t the time, when Sabre let out a typical ‘oooooh’ noise.

“What?”

“Trimaj, Nick and Saintheart just tagged one of the Triumvirate! ThrawnMcEwok was a Killik Joiner!”

“Killik?” Adam looked back at Cobra, who was invisible to the other two. He hissed, remembering the historian Author Denning’s tale of the Dark Nest. “Someone’s cloaking Cobra behind your doubts.”

“I didn’t read that tale, either,” muttered Sabre. Adam found himself worried that he couldn’t deal with a Force user on his own, and Cobra suddenly vanished.

“I can’t see Cobra anymore. Kecen! We’ve got to get out of here!”

“A Yuuzhan Vong Warrior never retreats!” A blow rang out, and then Kecen was down, Sabre rolling forward, painting a shape that looked like a human in silly string. He grabbed at Kecen, dragging her back, and Sabre roared for Adam to fire.

Adam raised his grenade launcher, and fired into the floor between Kecen and silly-string Cobra. An explosion rang out, and this shockwave threw Adam into the wall, darkness claiming him.

--

“Get up, Adam!” Ringing sung in the pilots’ ears, and he looked up and saw Sabre, covered with soot and grime.

“What happened?” Adam shouted, over the ringing. “Did we get him?”

“Nope,” shouted back Sabre. “We think he escaped while we blacked out.”

“Kecen?”

“She’s fine,” came another guttural voice, and Adam saw jhc36 standing over Kecen, attaching something animalistic to the Yuuzhan Vong warriors wounds. It looked painful, actually. Adam winced, and then felt Sabre tugging at him.

“We have to get to the Killik Fan Club,” said Sabre.

“I need NP’s last address,” Adam blinked. “And what about the mail centre, surely we should tell someone?”

“Her last address is the Killik Fan Club.” Sabre yanked at Adam’s tunic, again. “And the centre is automated, and intact. Anything that comes in here will be dispatched via the dozens of droid shuttles, all over TF.N. ‘Whatever the size, we’ll take it, all the way’, remember?”

Shaking his head, Adam stood, pushing the irritating jingle from his mind, incidentally written by Sabre. “I never did like you as a musician, you know that?”

“Neither did Addie. Now come on!”

Mental note: Schemes for revenge end up in being dragged into events I’m not qualified for. Stay as a Draft Judge next time.

--

The pair rushed to the Killik Fan Club in the abandoned districts of the EUC, arriving before anyone else. Sabre had a datapad out which repeated it’s irritating chime, and when Sabre commented on that he really didn’t need that PM for shares in the Church of Waru because he was never going to have the money to buy them, Adam chimed in, drawing his DL-44 with a blaster rifle attachment this time.

“Are you done checking your mail?”

Sabre grinned back. “Never was. Saintheart has handed out the encryption details for the tracer he planted inside the mastermind’s leg via Jello. He’s on his way with a band of Imperial Knights to surround the area, but it doesn’t matter, as this tracer grafts itself to the victim’s blood. He’ll never get away.”

Adam nodded absently as he ran from the shadows of the similarly defunct Senate Guard Fan Club towards the Killik Fan Club. “And where is he now?”

“Inside, apparently,” said Sabre, quite innocently.

“What?” exploded Adam, pulling back under cover. “Are you nuts? This guy stuck seeds in both us without either of us knowing. He’s the member of a trio which has been running circles around the Mods and the Senate.”

“And?”

Adam jumped again, as Rilwen_Shadowflame emerged from the shadow he’d just withdrew into, brushing past him. Adam looked at Sabre, panicked, and Sabre pointed his datapad at her.

Rilwen managed to look mildly offended, when she quite clearly was furious. Sabre shrugged. “It’s not her.”

“Nice to hear, no?” said Rilwen, unimpressed. “I’m a Sith assassin, not a terrorist.”

“Pleasant to know,” said Adam, still scared out of his wits, but rapidly getting them back under control. He was the leader of Twin Suns, and a key member of EU City. He would not get intimidated by few Sith and Killiks.

The chiming increased, and Sabre swore. Adam moved over, to look at the display, but couldn’t see. Sabre’s mouth gaped, and Adam nudged it up. “He’s split himself in two.”

Before Adam could respond, Rilwen had launched forward, crimson blade lit, and shattering the door. Adam and Sabre ran after her, Sabre swearing profusely, and they found the enemy, a dark cloak standing alone, surrounded by Killiks and NP chained to a wall, her eyes lidded. The trio rushed the Sith, Rilwen blocking any firing avenues, and their enemy seemed to whirl, the breeze of wind pouring past from their entry causing his cloak to open like a raven’s claws –

This is it, the capture of the enemy and the end of the fear –

The cloak exploded, scattering crimson everywhere, liquid splattering across the Killiks, staining them, Rilwen deflecting the rest from them. Sabre’s scanner’s beep turned into a continuous tune, Rilwen hissing. “He’s used his blood to stain the Killiks and scatter the tracer -”

Rilwen whirled, launching herself back and yanking Sabre and Adam back with the Force, slamming the doors shut. Jello, Trimaj, Nick, Amanda and the Imperial Knights were surrounding the building, Sinre running over and spluttering with rage, but Rilwen gave him a glance which shut him up and looked down.

“Where did the other blip go! We haven’t much time!”

Sabre flipped open his datapad, muting it quickly, and dropped it lower, so the others could see it, his voice filled with dread. “It’s heading for the - ”

All of a sudden the blip split into perhaps three dozen more, scattering into a as many directions, and not a single one was left in EU City.

“- post office…” trailed away Sabre.

Adam muttered Sabre’s irritating jingle, providing explanation. “ ‘Whatever the size, we’ll take it, all the way.’ ”

Rilwen hissed, stalking away, Sinre remaining quiet as she did so. The Chancellor looked darkly at Adam and Sabre. “We almost had them. I’m holding you personally responsible for this, you two. Sabre, consider your detective badge revoked.”

Adam wiped his brow, expecting Sabre to at least punch the man. Sabre simply stared at Sinre, calmly, and Sinre’s hand seemed to hover near his lightsaber hilt. Then the Killiks burst out of the building, hundreds of the things, and the cordon was too busy to exchange insults. Sinre ignited his blade and went for a particularly large Killik – tank size - and Adam looked at Sabre, concerned, moving away from the fighting.

Sabre simply glanced back at Adam, eyes narrowed and brow lowered. “Do you remember when Sinre got himself golden eyes?”

Adam shook his head. Sabre shrugged. “I haven’t seen even Tee or Cambria do that. And they’re Sith Council Members.”

“So?”

“Just saying.”

---

Perhaps a dozen Killiks escaped into the city, and with some as big as your thumb, they weren’t going to be captured. The Triumvirate had escaped. However, with the Nest shattered, several coma victims across the city awoke, and it became obvious how the Triumvirate had used the Killiks to attempt to build influence with people who had been weakened by the use of coral seeds on them.

It appeared that kecen and jhc36 had been injured during the escape of the Triumvirate member through the post office, but Cobra had been apprehended and was in the middle of being de-bugged, so to speak. It was a dark time. Not only had the masterminds threatened the stability of the city once, but again now, and fear was rife.

As Adam tapped a report for Addie on the whole situation, sitting at WG’s hospital bed with Sabre – himself trying to steal grapes from her without her noticing. Considering she was asleep, Sabre had an unfair advantage, but Adam left him be, as he could always buy some more, and owed Sabre that much, now he was jobless.

Sinre hadn’t celebrated the end of this epic with the recovery of NP, or the fact that the Dark Nest had been shattered. Nor that the Yuuzhan Vong had emerged into the community after a long absence. There was no attempt at unity, only a growing obsession in the Chancellor to capture the Triumvirate, and end the threat, once and for all…

Adam found himself growing concerned, imagining someone with his earlier mentality running the City. He sent off the report, and made recommendations that the Triumvirate’s motive be discovered, not their location. He began wondering why they had formed, in the first place…

And who their true enemy actually was.
