Agreed. The Master would fight back with all his/her strength, otherwise the Sith who prevails would not be proven to be stronger or more powerful in the Force than the previous Sith.
That being said, if the Master would defeat the apprentice I am thinking s/he wouldn't kill him/her, just give them a beatdown they would not soon forget. That would encourage the apprentice to learn more so they could one day avenge that humiliation and cruelty, it would give them the anger needed to become better.

Right though I would imagine most Master's would keep note of it and if there was by some reason a feeling that the apprentice was too weak to ever challenge them or not rising to their potential. They may consider a replacement for them.

Naw, I used to beat him with a rotten fish when I was still Dark Lord of the NSO (over 2 years ago now? I can't remember exactly, but a long time.). His use of a lead pipe to hit peons....I mean minions....is IMHO a tribute to me.

The Sith Council is down to two members due to RL concerns, everyone, so I've been considering offering a Sith Council place in return for winning a Dueling Tournament. I'm sounding out opinions before I dedicate to creating one.
All Sith would be eligible to fight, but they'd only have access to the power's that are attached to their rank.

I say we just redo the order of the sith itself...cut it down to only 3 Sith Lords. Granted we only have two at the moment but the more hands in the pot the less there is to go around and the longer it takes to get anything done.
I would be willing to participate in a due if it came down to it.
This is how I would arange the sith order for this thread (not how I would have my sith)
Dark Lord -Sith'ari- Dark Lady (Sith Council Each would represent one of the following orders rule or one, rule of Two, and the ancient sith or rule of 3) equals grand master (I think the 3 would also have to prove themselves against the other "masters" also they would have to be active for the last month.)
Sith Masters (Can't be a master until you have taken an apprentice) equal Jedi Masters
maurder, assassian, acoylot (ms) (jedi Knight status) Must prove yourself by defeating other apprentices in a duel (lightsaber, force, or combo)
apprentice/hand (equals Padawon status) Choosen to learn the ways of the dark side by another sith
Sith Ordealist/other title (member of the thread)- must be active on the boards for at lest a month
minion (not a member but comes to the thread)
