Freak, you need to back that statement up. Having just recently reread the entire TTT, that is not how I remember it. The way I remember it is that Mara attempted to get on the sail barge crew but could not pull it off. Unless you can tell me what book and chapter of TTT states that the Emperor cancels the mission, then I have to throw the BS flag on that play!
By the way Freak, I am not stalking you. I know I have been responding negatively to a lot of your comments, but I am not gunning for you!! 
 look sticky I'm gonna read the entire TTT again to look for the exact pages ok(I have the paperback editions). In the mean time let's forget about TTT for a minute. no forget about that, in TTT Luke says she would have killed him in ROTJ.

I haven't finish feading TTT yet  but luke was more powerful in TTT and he still couldn't defeat neither Luuke or C'baoth. and are either of these two more powerful than darth vader? you need to consider that mara was no slouch in TTT even less in ROTJ when she was the emperor's hand. she doesn't need to be more powerful than luke to be able to beat him in a fight. at the time of ROTJ 6/10 times luke take it.

I still don't see her being able to take him in a fight unless she assassinated him but she never got the chance or she would have done it.

Well I think if she was there on the death star when Luke was facing Vader he wouldn't have had a chance expacilly after his I won't kill policy was in effect. She was a very skilled assassian but if it went lightsaber to lightsaber or vibroblade I think she would have put up a valent fight but Luke would have won it. Yet again Luke did admit that she could have been responsible for his death and she did kill Luuke.

If Mara was on the Death Star, trying to hurt Luke, Obi-wan would have handed her her butt.
If she was on the Death Star in ROTJ, Vader would have killed her. Which of course Palpatine knew and she wasn't significant enough as a servant to be Palps'apprentice. She would have lost it in a jealous rage. If Luke would have been Palps' apprentice, he would kill all the competition. He wouldn't need anyone.

why? the had met before and he never killed her, why do you think he would have killed mara?

If she was going to try to kill Luke in a fight? Hello? He killed his own master when he went after Luke. He loved him and was loyal to him. Mara was just a pain in the ass teenage girl.

Ummm, in ROTJ, Luke wasn't all that talented with a lightsaber (note: Luke never does anything impressive in the movie that couldn't be done by any Jedi, he only fought Vader, who was noted as being slow and clumsy in Dark Lord (while Vader defeated a Jedi Master, he was also a lot fresher than her), Vader hadn't really fought with a saber in the last 20 years, in "I,Jedi" Luke gives lightsaber training to Kam), he was good at reading people, but he had no control of sequences until he got to practice during the interim years between books. I say he had no sequence control because Yoda taught him how to use the force not lightsabers, otherwise Luke's form would be more similar to Ataru than it is. Given that, Mara Jade, who was actually trained in Lightsaber Use would have crushed Luke despite the force advantage Luke has, because Mara would have been relaxed enough to fight and use the force, and luke would have only been able to focus on sabers.
