Hey, MS86, been a while!
I been good buddy just got out of a job to hopefully land a job more flexible to school. how's trix ?
* Bought Dollars and GBU a few years back.
so u do have the collectors edition ? it's 2 disc right ? anywho I have the first two according to chronological order(No Name putting on the poncho in GBU as a prequel to Fistful) to be honest my favorite of the three is leaning towards For a Few Dollars More, but I'm debating with Fistful. While GBU is a classic it's not my favorite of the three, I feel the plot was dare I say the weakest of the trilogy. I enjoy the docs featuring on the character of the Good , instead of being a John Wayne type he's more true to a antihero, with more shades of good then bad unlike Fett. which is your particular favorite ? has the comic mention the previous films ?
* Pity, it's easily one of his best and most consistent pieces of work. I'm presently converting my collections to trade. Decided to bite the bullet, but also due to the amount of ads, it's far more economical noit to mention a better read. Although I am approaching burn out with Marvel.
I can't argue with that, while I haven't read much of Bendis run I thought it was a cool alt tale, but my tastes are 616. chances with Brand New Days to Die the story can get more consistent(though I wouldn't hold my breath with 3 writers on board)but it can only go up from One More Day and perhaps Waid can weave his magic unto the story.
can't say the same about Loeb, poor guy, now fans are debating if his previous accomplishments were any good in the first place. I have to say The Long Halloween was a good book and could almost be a sequel to Year One, while I haven't touch his books with Tim Sale I heard they do great work. but in any case it doesn't matter to Hulk fans cause apparently he's giving them what they want with this new Ultimate uber RULK....lame.
it seems so long since I read Death of Captain America, that's the problem with paperbacks it's a long wait. I do look forward to James eventual donning the costume.
* That's likely a What-If cover.
I suppose so, but for what ? Civil War ? I hope not they beat that idea to death. I just hope it's a nod that Steve wold come back, think about it two Caps on the same side. or perhaps Steve becomes his own man ? I wonder wut Brubaker has in store.....usually his plot consists of what not to do in a Cap story and he succeeds.
I take it you don't have faith in the Wolverine movie ? only reason I bring it up is that they finally manage to get Gambit in it....which doesn't make any sense, hopefully Remy will still retain that long lifespan in the comics. I can totally understand why u are burned out with Marvel, SI has been generally consistent but it won't be a must read say like Civil War. IronFist lost it's team, there are talks of another major event, Spidey hasn't got back his old status quo and Cap hasn't come back. really it's Cap and Spidey for me. I still haven't found the second hc for Waid's FF, i might have to buy it online. yur probably going to have fun this upcoming yr for DC.
* Downloaded the demo to PS3 and found it disappointing. You're supposed to be using a lightsaber, but enemies don't get cut to pieces and are even allowed to block. It's a LIGHTSABER! Don't get me started on QTE sequences to finish the bosses, what was an innovation 4 years back is now a plague on games. I am looking forward to Fallout 3 though.
oh no that's a concept that has been plaquing those episode one games, but i can understand not to make the enemies too hackable. how's the force powers ? ah the makers of Oblivion craft another huge rpg.
* Sounds about right in regard to Legacy, with Vol 5 Feb '09. Falcon should be out i October but I don't care about thatt, while Mindor I think is Dec
wut's wrong with Falcon ?

* Few Dollars has the partnership with Eastwood and Van Cleef, but Fistful has the classic 3/4 coffins sequence.
* Comic picks up from the end of GBU. I'm inclined to go for the third because it took it a much bigger level, enabling Joe to have a heroic side without ever becoming one.
* It needs something but not even Waid, who's work I love, can get me on Brand New Day.
can't say the same about Loeb, poor guy, now fans are debating if his previous accomplishments were any good in the first place.
* Then the fans are idiots, because the Loeb-Sale work really is as good as it's ever been. Long Halloween was great, Dark Victory is a good continuation while Superman For All Seasons is smart. Loeb's Superman / Batman work is a very fun read. So what happened? His son died of cancer and I'd say it's had a far more profound effect upon him than he may be aware.
I have to say The Long Halloween was a good book and could almost be a sequel to Year One, while I haven't touch his books with Tim Sale I heard they do great work.
* If you want a follow-up to Year One, get these:
Batman: The Man Who Laughs
Batman & The Monster Men
Batman & The mad Monk
Batman: The Long Halloween
Batman: Dark Victory
* Between them Brubaker, Wagner and Loeb paint a great picture of the Dark Knight's progression.
but in any case it doesn't matter to Hulk fans cause apparently he's giving them what they want with this new Ultimate uber RULK....lame.
* Another title I don't care about.
it seems so long since I read Death of Captain America, that's the problem with paperbacks it's a long wait. I do look forward to James eventual donning the costume.
* Oh, it's a very smartly done sequence, think you'll like it.
I suppose so, but for what ? Civil War ? I hope not they beat that idea to death.
* The net says What If? Fallen Son.
I just hope it's a nod that Steve wold come back, think about it two Caps on the same side. or perhaps Steve becomes his own man ? I wonder wut Brubaker has in store.....usually his plot consists of what not to do in a Cap story and he succeeds.
* Hopefully we'll find out, but I'm hoping it doesn't have much to do with the Secret Invasion/Dark Reign rubbish.
I can totally understand why u are burned out with Marvel, SI has been generally consistent
* Eh? I'd say it's wildly inconsistent with a lacklustre main series surrounded by brilliant tie-ins - Herc and Captain Britain - which is a must read for EVERYONE.
but it won't be a must read say like Civil War. IronFist lost it's team, there are talks of another major event,
* Events, actually, I know of 3 future ones from Marvel.
Spidey hasn't got back his old status quo and Cap hasn't come back. really it's Cap and Spidey for me. I still haven't found the second hc for Waid's FF, i might have to buy it online.
* The HCs can vanish, so watch out, I'd say go and grab it from Amazon if you can as they tend to knock a third off. Also, the Daredevil Omnibus for Bendis is now out and it's one of the best stories going - if you like how Cap's long arc worked, I think you'll find you like Bendis' 5-year run on Daredevil but you do need about $66 going spare. (Amazon's price being $66 instead of $99)
yur probably going to have fun this upcoming yr for DC.
* Dc is looking very good as the stuff they've got going on is by 1-2 titles at most so there's:
- Final Crisis and it's impact
- Batman RIP - limited to Batman & Detective
- Superman: New Krypton - a 3-title croosover for 3 months that'll give the books a boost but there's talk of long-term plans that suggest this is but the opening shot.
- Wonder Woman / Secret Six - Simone's doing great on both titles
- Green Lantern: Blackest Night - DC's big event for next year and it'll sell a ton but only be done in GL and GLC.
oh no that's a concept that has been plaquing those episode one games, but i can understand not to make the enemies too hackable.
* I like the idea of slashing people to pieces, it's only a vid game.
how's the force powers ?
* Ever played Psi-Ops or Second Sight? TK is the the same crude mechanism. Lightning and Force Push are OK but, well it's pretty but that's about it.
ah the makers of Oblivion craft another huge rpg.
* And it's huge indeed.
wut's wrong with Falcon ?
* It's set post-LOTF with Daala running the GA, 'nuff said.

JB and MS86
On the subject of the upcoming Millenium Falcon book... well, yeah, JB summed up the initial problems with it pretty well. Ahough there is some hope because Luceno is writing it, but honestly, its set in the post-LotF status quo, so its hard to tell how much even Luceno could salvage from that horrible situation. There was also some random speculation that they moved up Falcon and pushed back Mindor originally as LotF actually needs an epilogue (actually, it needs a proper ending for that matter), but I think someone official said that Luceno or something was done and Stover wasn't, so that's why the release dates were switched. I'm just glad that the last Star Wars book of 2008 will likely be a good one set in a nice time period, otherwise, I was originally going to hold off on reading the Falcon book until 2009.
I know Loeb's current work at Marvel has been... well, calling it bad would be kind. I've also seen people start complaining about his previous working sucking, but I liked a lot of it, so I'm just not sure if its just because of how quickly people jump ship, or whether I don't have that good taste. The classic Batman stories are already great, of course. JB, any opinion on Hush? I thought it was pretty good, and the artwork was definitely gorgeous, no arguement about that (with Jim Lee drawing, of course it would be), but some objected to Hush and all that. I didn't mind it, since while it was somewhat obvious... it was still a decent Batman story, I thought. And the Riddler scene at the end was great.
So far Captain America is still ok, even if I lost interest (sorry, this kind of unending heavy political stuff isn't quite my thing). Though it was impressive when Bucky-Cap finally showed up in SI, but... honestly, SI is so consistently bad, its not like just arbitrarily throwing Thor and Captain America into the mix is just going to save it. And when the big battle finally starts, I'm wondering why Reed hasn't used his anti-Skrull disguise gun yet. You'd think that would be one of the first things to do, but... that would make too much sense.
Final Crisis, despite a few delays, has been going great I think. The main story is pretty good, and so have many of the tie-ins. Legion of Three Worlds is just getting started, and Superman Beyond was another great Morrison trippy story. And Batman:R.I.P. has been a great, though somewhat insane story. Just to mention though, the actual story is only in the main Batman titles, though most of the Batman related titles, like Detective Comics, Robin and Nightwing have their own R.I.P. tie-in arcs which... don't really have much to do with the actual story, but their arcs haven't been too bad either. I'm hoping the finale of RIP will be as good as the rest of it has been, but a more dependable bet is that the GL titles are definitely worth reading as they lead up to the Blackest Night.
The Force Unleashed demo was that bad, JB? Oh well, after reading the graphic novel, I wasn't going to buy the game anyway, I refuse to buy the game and give money to that continuity nightmare. The Campaign Guide sounds like it might have some interesting tidbits though. Anyway, there are plenty of other things to look forward to on PS3 in the coming months- I'm an RPG fan, so I'm especially excited about stuff like Eternal Sonata and Valkyria Chronicles. Still thinking about LittleBigPlanet. Although I'm tempted to get a 360 after the recent price, maybe early next years, for that new Tales, and to finally play KotOR 1 and 2 on a console. But I'm happy with my PS3 in the meantime (backwards compatibility rules!).

* He may have pulled off TUF but salvaging LOTF is beyond even Luceno's skills.
* I liked it enough to buy the Absolute version, also Paul Dini is doing a great story that builds on it right now in Detective that's entitled Hearts Of Hush.
So far Captain America is still ok, even if I lost interest (sorry, this kind of unending heavy political stuff isn't quite my thing).
* The big arc concludes next month.
* I've a copy of #6, will post more later.
Final Crisis, despite a few delays, has been going great I think. The main story is pretty good, and so have many of the tie-ins.
* I'm enjoying all of it but then the stories are by DC's A-Team: Morrison, Johns, Rucka.
Legion of Three Worlds is just getting started,
* Despite the delays, I'll wait for Perez art and Johns story.
and Superman Beyond was another great Morrison trippy story.
* Hearts of Hush is excellent, you should try it, actually all of Dini's run has been good, bar probably the Countdown tie-in.
I'm hoping the finale of RIP will be as good as the rest of it has been, but a more dependable bet is that the GL titles are definitely worth reading as they lead up to the Blackest Night.
* And beyond, Johns has plans beyond that.
The Force Unleashed demo was that bad, JB? Oh well, after reading the graphic novel, I wasn't going to buy the game anyway, I refuse to buy the game and give money to that continuity nightmare.
* My wife asked me if I wanted a book for holiday reading so I've decided to give the TPB a try, if nothing else it's pretty.
But I'm happy with my PS3 in the meantime (backwards compatibility rules!).
* Yep! So glad I managed to nab a BC one before they vanished, it's still one of Sony's mistakes to me but I've heard they now intend to put PS2 games onto PSN network, wonder if they'll charge?

You forget Fistful had the infamous "You shoot to kill, you better hit the heart. Your own words, Ramone. The heart, Ramone. Don't forget the heart. Aim for the heart, or you'll never stop me." but u have the Indio sequence with Few Dollars, it's a hard choice for me. personally i like the whole bounty hunter angle.

yur talking about Few Dollars More, is there any backstory on No Name ?
* It needs something but not even Waid, who's work I love, can get me on Brand New Day.
I can't blame u, in fact Im somewut up in the air to either buy Spiderman or not myself, the retcon is unforgivable as an idea and they went through with it which burns me. I wish they paid Johns or Slott to do a competant modern series that could breath new life to the characters.
I suppose I could join the Iron Man band wagon, but I rather not. Im more of a 3 ongoing series reader.
* Then the fans are idiots, because the Loeb-Sale work really is as good as it's ever been. Long Halloween was great, Dark Victory is a good continuation while Superman For All Seasons is smart. I just hope Rogers comes back in a year.

why ? there is no need after what if civil war, yeesh first the marvel apes idea now this ?
* Hopefully we'll find out, but I'm hoping it doesn't have much to do with the Secret Invasion/Dark Reign rubbish.
I dunno I think it's best to avoid all these events, if SI isn't as good as it's suppose to be than I see no point in buying it. only reason that got me into civil war was the hype and reviews on it. and Marvel should take the hint the more events u release the less each have a impact on one another.
I can totally understand why u are burned out with Marvel, SI has been generally consistent
* Eh? I'd say it's wildly inconsistent with a lacklustre main series surrounded by brilliant tie-ins - Herc and Captain Britain - which is a must read for EVERYONE.
I meant inconsistent, but compare to Brand New Day reviews generally consistent. that's a shame the main series can't hold it on it's own. So tell me wut are your general complaints on it ?
* Events, actually, I know of 3 future ones from Marvel.
and I probably won't read any....thank God for the Cap series otherwise I wouldn't be following Marvel.
(Amazon's price being $66 instead of $99)
I have to check my comic shop first they're usually good about having them.
- Final Crisis and it's impact
meh, if another old school character dies it only leaves another chance for Johns to bring him back.
- Batman RIP - limited to Batman & Detective
which might not be much of a event if Final Crisis is after RIP
- Superman: New Krypton - a 3-title croosover for 3 months that'll give the books a boost but there's talk of long-term plans that suggest this is but the opening shot.
is Johns working on this ? or am I thinking of Action Comics ?
* I like the idea of slashing people to pieces, it's only a vid game.
who doesn't, I mean I can understand their logic, but it's a lightsaber and I doubt general fans know much about cortosis.
* Ever played Psi-Ops or Second Sight? TK is the the same crude mechanism. Lightning and Force Push are OK but, well it's pretty but that's about it.
o ick, please say it ain't so, i was hopin it wouldn't be as imprecise as Psi-Ops. are u saying saber combat and TK are that bad ?
* And it's huge indeed.
one of Bethsedas's problems/wonders in gaming. i hope they add a precise map in the game.
* It's set post-LOTF with Daala running the GA, 'nuff said.
yeah.....what I would give for a Brand New day retcon for both NJO and LOTF. well the book is being written by Luceno, this is the same guy that wrote best book out of NJO, perhaps there is a chance he can weave a good book out of the mess the publishers have made for themselves.
u know it's a shame I want to follow Luke and co on their adventures and I can't cause all the new books have been dark and terrible, same goes for the Spidey retcon...wut's a fan to do ?
a comic series by Ostrander on the big 3 would be nice, especially his high regard for LUKE.
Nobody
There was also some random speculation that they moved up Falcon and pushed back Mindor originally as LotF actually needs an epilogue (actually, it needs a proper ending for that matter),
who's bright idea was to place mass murdering Daala as COS....has she even been arrested for her previous crimes against humanity ? apparently if a moon can fall on a wookiee anything can happen. maybe Luceno can do something to the series which only Betrayal and I feel Inferno did for the series, something good. I dunno it's a hard thing to save at this point, maybe it's possible, Johns made sense of the whole Parallax thing, maybe there will be a mini retcon
but I think someone official said that Luceno or something was done and Stover wasn't, so that's why the release dates were switched. I'm just glad that the last Star Wars book of 2008 will likely be a good one set in a nice time period, otherwise, I was originally going to hold off on reading the Falcon book until 2009.
I hope Stover gives us a good epic Luke book, I sure could use one.
I know Loeb's current work at Marvel has been... well, calling it bad would be kind. right he has been off his A game for a while.

I didn't mind it, since while it was somewhat obvious... it was still a decent Batman story, I thought. And the Riddler scene at the end was great.
Hush started off as something memorable but got lost in it's own complexity or simplicity(however u view the plot)he also missed the mark with reawakening Todd back and then simply saying it was clayface. it was overall a excuse for jim lee to draw Batman and his universe.
You'd think that would be one of the first things to do, but... that would make too much sense.
I understand, also Im glad Im watching SI afar the series isn't living up to the premise it was suppose to be. and honestly they're only 2 titles worth picking up right now in Marvel...Iron Man, Cap, and Thor....make that 3. Im pissed as a Spidey fan I can't follow him on his current adevntures, any particulars trades to keep a watch for Spidey Nobody ?
The Force Unleashed demo was that bad, JB? Oh well, after reading the graphic novel, I wasn't going to buy the game anyway, I refuse to buy the game and give money to that continuity nightmare. The Campaign Guide sounds like it might have some interesting tidbits though.
Spoiler
his family crest is the symbol for the rebels....I hope they stop playing around with all these retcons....it gets confusing after a while. I mean if u turn dark side doesn't that mean u get bad skin ?
Anyway, there are plenty of other things to look forward to on PS3 in the coming months- I'm an RPG fan, so I'm especially excited about stuff like Eternal Sonata and Valkyria Chronicles. Still thinking about LittleBigPlanet. Although I'm tempted to get a 360 after the recent price, maybe early next years, for that new Tales, and to finally play KotOR 1 and 2 on a console. But I'm happy with my PS3 in the meantime (backwards compatibility rules!).
DONT GET A 360!!!! sorry for the caps but heed my warning the 360 was a big old broken box of failure rushed to the masses without being check upon....picture vista as a console. the machine used to scratch my discs while stationary(do not moved the system at all while playing discs it will render the disc useless), used to freeze, slow load times, red ring, the power supply is the size of my ps2. also if u wanted to use their warranty to to replace yur broken 360 u usually get a old refurbished one rather than a new one. After that fiasco I will avoid all MS consoles and essentially switch the bandwagon to PS3 and Nintendo. not to mention KOTOR and KOTOR 2 might not be backwards compatible, u might just fork yur money for the pc versions online, the requirements aren't harsh and i should know i have a intel GMA 950 one of the worst game cards on the market yet it plays KOTOR 2 pretty nice and Outcast like a dream.

Note to all - I'm off on holiday so will be posting from Bath and other places!
MS86,
You forget Fistful had the infamous "You shoot to kill, you better hit the heart. Your own words, Ramone. The heart, Ramone. Don't forget the heart. Aim for the heart, or you'll never stop me." but u have the Indio sequence with Few Dollars, it's a hard choice for me. personally i like the whole bounty hunter angle.
* Ah yes, so many good bits to choose from!
yur talking about Few Dollars More, is there any backstory on No Name ?
* Sorry, meant Good, Bad & Ugly.
I suppose I could join the Iron Man band wagon, but I rather not. Im more of a 3 ongoing series reader.
* The Knaufs arc on Iron Man is great and Fraction's work is very good too, so I'd say go with these two, the former of which is collected in 2 trades.
I enjoy his earlier work, though Hush was more of a excuse for the artist to draw all of Batman's rogues gallery.
* Yeah, but if you're Jim Lee, you get a say over what to draw!
all good i hear.
* They are indeed.
wasn't much of a hulk fan to begin with.
* The Peter David TPBs are worth trying, older material though.
why ? there is no need after what if civil war, yeesh first the marvel apes idea now this ?
* There's no need for DR to do a 9-book series all in HC, but if people show an inclination to buy this stuff, why not?
I dunno I think it's best to avoid all these events, if SI isn't as good as it's suppose to be than I see no point in buying it. only reason that got me into civil war was the hype and reviews on it. and Marvel should take the hint the more events u release the less each have a impact on one another.
* It's a real oddity, at this point I'm off the school that I've bought 6 of 8 so may as well buy the last two. Although, I have to admit, when he's turned up, Fury is damn cool - it's just very limited appearances.
I meant inconsistent, but compare to Brand New Day reviews generally consistent. that's a shame the main series can't hold it on it's own. So tell me wut are your general complaints on it ?
* The big one in pacing and tone, the series had a load of crap happening in issue 1 and then little attention paid to it whilst the story focused on the Savage Land for about the next 4 issues, haven't yet read 6.
meh, if another old school character dies it only leaves another chance for Johns to bring him back.
* You're thinking of Blackest Night here.
which might not be much of a event if Final Crisis is after RIP
* Remember that Morrison's writing both.
is Johns working on this ? or am I thinking of Action Comics ?
* You're correct on both counts, with James Robinson on Superman and a new team on Supergirl, but Johns has turned around Supergirl in 2 issues and I can see myself giving that title a try as part of and prologue to the event.
* I like the idea of slashing people to pieces, it's only a vid game.
DONT GET A 360!!!! sorry for the caps but heed my warning the 360 was a big old broken box of failure rushed to the masses without being check upon....picture vista as a console.
* Heheheh, oh the amount of stories I've heard about the 360 - it's why I didn't buy one! Or think about it!

Ah, I have heard of many of those horror stories about the 360, about the Red Ring of Death, discs being scratched, though didn't know the power supply was that huge. Do you mean a slim PS2, or the original bigger PS2? I'm assuming you mean the slim, but I've never seen a 360's power box, since most of the videos show just show the main unit by itself. Honestly, I'm still somewhat tempted, since I'm hoping the newer models will have those problems worked out (better chips or better heat sinks or something), but it partially depends on my mood and how obsessed I am with playing a particular 360 exclusive on any particular day. Mainly I just pray that some 360 games I want to play will eventually be ported to the PS3. I think the occsaional 360 game has been ported to PS3, so maybe I'll just wait until next year and see.
I've seen that picture, of Captain America holding a supposedly dead Iron Man, but... meh, don't care, its probably either Bucky or a What-If. Though I thought the Civil War What-If ended nicely, at least from what scans I've seen, but usually What-Ifs ended really, really dark or ended better than the normal Marvel universe. I don't really have any Spiderman recommendations though, unfortunately, since the last major retcon still makes me sick when I think about it. The only thing that gives me some hope is that they'll retcon that retcon away in a few years. Its not like there's really anything sacred in comics anymore.
And to comment on Secret Invasion, well... first of all, the idea for the series is stupid. Undetectable Skrulls? Sounds like an easy way to maybe retcon stuff, like say it was a Skrull, it wasn't that actual character. Also, there haven't really been any clues as to which characters may or may not have been replaced, not to mention what happens to the originals. Then there's the "method"... Reed figures it out, or supposedly the Skrulls use his brain to figure out how to do it... and that's it. Its like the "its magic" line Marvel kept repeating when asking about Spiderman continuity problems. No need for stuff like logical explanations, or any explanations at all, its all magic. And like JB said, for some reason, most of the active Avengers have been stuck all the way out in the Savage Land for most of the series doing what? Nothing important. I mean, heck, we found out who the queen was in a New Avengers issue, so when the reveal happened in the actual SI, it wasn't that big of a surprise. And the 70s' heroes were a complete waste of time, since surprise, they're all just sleeper Skrulls. Then Reed was freed by Brand (nice way to use her at least), he builds an anti-Skrull disguise gun, and then... since JB says he has #6, I won't hold back on spoilers for his sake, Thor shows up, and everybody else just joins him, then commence big brawl. If you just like to look at lots of violence and explosion (though honestly, explosions are nothing unusual in comics, how often does the SHIELD Helicarrier crash for instance?), sure, you might like this series, and the art is still kinda of... not that great, though that depends on who's answering, otherwise there's not much else to offer. Most plotlines dragged for three issues, and things have only in #6 actually moved a little bit. Remember House of M? Yeah, sorta like that. So yeah, I'm just waiting for that trainwreck to finish, and that'll only lead to more trainwrecks. It sells, but... well, lots of sales doesn't necessarily mean quality.
On the Batman front though, I do recommend both the main Batman series and the Detective Comic series, even aside from their current RIP focus. Detective Comics has been particularly good, I think, even if this is the same author that wrote Countdown. Robin's also been pretty good, with the recent return of Spoiler (and her return was relatively simple, nothing like "punching reality" or anything like that). Although there is one Batman TPB I recomend, aside from the normal Batman Year One, Long Halloween, etc. TPBs, and that's Batman Year 100. Its out of continuity, and is literally set 100 years after Batman's first appearance, but... its such a perfect Batman story, with all the essentials.
And yeah, I'm mostly aware of all the continuity problems with TFU, which is why I refuse to buy the game and give money to support the idiocy. Its worse than anything Kyle Katarn has done continuity wise, and it messes up more stuff in one game than have happened during the whole Death Star plans debacle over the last few decades. I know Lucas was involved, but its not like that guarantees quality, not after the prequels. Its kinda sad that these days, with TFU and the launch of yet more Clone Wars media, that continuity simply doesn't seem to matter anymore. They just keep rearranging stuff almost as will.
JB
Have a nice holiday, hope you enjoy it.
And yeah, I doubt even Luceno can salvage the post-LotF story. Especially since I still find it kind of annoying that after everything the Falcon has been through, who knows how many repairs, given how many times its nearly been destroyed, its probably been rebuilt and upgraded and refitted once or twice during the New Republic years, back when things were happy and Han and Leia had lots of resources (instead of constantly being on the run due to one war or another), and the thing still has some secrets? Sure sounds contrived to me. And the cover doesn't exactly spark much interest either.
And the news of the new novel contract really doesn't fill me with hope. At least its different authors this time, so maybe there's a small chance. At least hopefully every third book won't be ridiculous biased towards a certain culture, but we'll see.
I've been following Detective Comics on and off since One Year Later. I actually liked the new direction for the Riddler and the Penguin as not-supervillains, bu they still retain their prime villainous traits, they just decide to have fun in more legal ways. The art unfortunately goes up and down, but the stories are pretty good. I actually liked the idea of a Batman/Zatanna romance, especially since it built on them mending their friendship after the Identiy Crisis retcon thing, but with Catwoman in the picture again, it seems like Catwoman might be in the running again, especially after her own series was cancelled (I heard it was good, but oh well).
And yeah, I actually bought a PS3 specifically because I heard Sony was going from hardware to software emulation. I really don't see Sony releasing PS2 games on the PSN though. At least in America. PS1 games are much older and smaller, but I presume PS2 games are much larger and would be harder to sell online in digital form. Anyway, America's choice of downloadable PS1 titles has been somewhat... sparse, especially compared to Japan's much larger selection, so even if they did start releasing PS2 games online, I doubt America would get that many. There are a few really memorable PS1 games on the American store, I think, but Japan has a lot more (for instance, I think Xenogears is supposed to be released in Japan's Store sometime, or has already been, not sure), but don't think anything of that level has been released in America yet. No idea about Europe's Store, sorry. Though PS3 games are starting to take off, with some nice exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4 (though haven't played it yet), and more multi-platforms, and Blu-Ray's victory helped too. I just wish more RPGs would be released faster.

I have a lot of catching up to do I see! I'll only be able to do a short one tonight. I'll try to catch up tomorrow.
Nobody145
I think it was Galen (that Technomage who later shows up in the short-lived Crusade) happened to be interfacing with Z'ha'dum's defense system when Sheridan was there, and that if Galen hadn't been there to override the defense system, the White Star wouldn't have made it to the surface,
Oh, that's terrible! That ruins that whole event! I only read that one B5 book. I think it was City on the Edge of Forever or something like that. So as far as I'm concerned, the events in the book you mentioned didn't happen. I hope they retcon that book someday. That's a really bad thing, because it diminishes what Sheridan did from the television show. That's rather like Dark Empire which negates Luke's sacrifice and Anakin Skywalker's sacrifice in RotJ. DE diminishes RotJ.
Thanks for explaining all that, N.
And I'm mostly sure that Vader being a Sith was publically known. Vader definitely wasn't a Jedi, so the red lightsaber would definitely indicate Sith, or something like that to most people.
But until RotS, not even the Jedi knew that a Sith lived. This story takes place about a year or less after RotS, doesn't it? Typho seemed to think there were many Sith too. I guess I just didn't think most of the "regular" people in the galaxy would have been told about Vader being a Sith, and certainly they wouldn't have known about Palpatine.... At least, I don't think so.
Jedi Ben * My take on it is two-fold:
1) No Jedi, thus no need to hide it.
2) It doesn't matter if people know what a Sith is or don't it sounds scary so cue Sidious: This is my second-in-command, Darth Vader, the Dark Lord of the Sith.
* That people will assume Vader is THE Sith is a bonus for Sid.
Okay, that makes sense. I do wonder why Typho had the impression that there were many Sith though? Or did I misinterpret that?
LOL ! You're SUCH an OLD geezer!
* You asked for this for...Aren't you older?
JB!!!!!!!!! Didn't your mother ever tell you it was impolite to ask a woman about her age???
LOL! Of course I'm older. That's why I was teasing you. You're not THAT old. If you're an old geezer then what does that make me???
* Don't know, guess it'll depend on both how Reaves concludes the arc and how good the sale have been. Who'd have thought you'd like a couple of Dark Times books so much?
I know! Who would have guessed? Certainly not me! I just wish we'd get some enjoyable books in the Post-RotJ timeframe. It looks like things aren't going to be changing much in the future. I really don't like the news about Del Rey getting the contract again. I hate that there will be yet ANOTHER series. AND, I'm really disappointed that Denning will be writing Luke again. He's already damaged Luke far too much.
RK_Striker_JK_5 Thanks. Although I'm talking about the boards in general...
I'm not very popular on the boards, Striker, but I don't let others keep me from speaking out when I have something to say. You shouldn't either.
And in as big a franchise as SW, that's not smart. Some people say, "Well, they can always create more character!" Thing is, those new characters have little credibility, whereas older, more established characters have that weight.
It takes time to develop characters and for people to "accept" them and feel comfortable with them...to CARE enough about them to want to read about them, especially new characters who are created in established franchise universes.
Sounds like she's got multip0le personality disorder, there.
It does, doesn't it. I actually liked the character of Morrigan Corde until I found out she was Calixte. Now I don't look at her in the same way and I no longer respect her or care about her. She caused the galaxy to be in the mess that it's in. She conspired with SITH. Everyone should know that you can't trust Sith! She's responsible for the GA's defeat, and for the purge of the Jedi. She's responsible for Kol's death and for the fact that Cade is the way he is.
Oh, I remember her. Thanks, Windy. She was flying those God-awful TIE variants, IIRC.
Yes.
Makes more sense than anything else. *Shrug* A rather pathetic and badly-named series, there. Par for the course, sadly.
Sadly, yes.
In some stories, vagueness is acceptable. This is not one of them.
NO! The culminating book of a nine book series should NOT have a vague ending. The readers should know what the authors intended for the ending to the story and for the characters.
And one little thought does not a murderer redeem.
Right. And he was only selfishly trying to save his daughter. He didn't care about all of the other Hapans who died because of the nanovirus. He didn't sacrifice his life for Allana's, and he didn't show any regret for anything he had done.
.
Yeah, dead wife killed by nephew. *Headdesk* Gee, let's rub salt in his wound next!
More tomorrow....

Nobody,
On the Batman front though, I do recommend both the main Batman series and the Detective Comic series, even aside from their current RIP focus. Detective Comics has been particularly good, I think, even if this is the same author that wrote Countdown.
* But on the form that made his name. No one came out of Countdown well! Will have to get around to looking at Bat 100 though.
And the news of the new novel contract really doesn't fill me with hope. At least its different authors this time, so maybe there's a small chance. At least hopefully every third book won't be ridiculous biased towards a certain culture, but we'll see.
* My interest lies in other eras and the comics, which I enjoy to a ridiculous comparitative degree.
I've been following Detective Comics on and off since One Year Later. I actually liked the new direction for the Riddler and the Penguin as not-supervillains, bu they still retain their prime villainous traits, they just decide to have fun in more legal ways.
* It was a smart take and works well.
* She seems more a jealous cat to me, but I like the idea of Wayne irritating her via friendship with Zatanna. Nguyen is doing some great artwork on Detective too.
with some nice exclusives like Metal Gear Solid 4 (though haven't played it yet), and more multi-platforms, and Blu-Ray's victory helped too. I just wish more RPGs would be released faster.
* Say good bye to your life for 20 hours when you start playing MGS4 - it's excellent but evily addictive, you have to get to the end, but once you do you can go through the game with all the kit - so blow up all manner of stuff with ease.
COW,
Okay, that makes sense. I do wonder why Typho had the impression that there were many Sith though? Or did I misinterpret that?
* Typho wasn't exactly thinking straight much of the time though, was he?
JB!!!!!!!!! Didn't your mother ever tell you it was impolite to ask a woman about her age???
* Who said I asked you to give me a number? Besides it's simple maths, I saw ROTJ in the cinemas as a kid when I was 7, you saw ANH therefore...You're older than me!
LOL! Of course I'm older. That's why I was teasing you. You're not THAT old. If you're an old geezer then what does that make me???
* Think I'll let you answer your own question! Every so often this topic comes up at work and various one-liners fly as most of my colleagues are older!
* Which is why my interest is now effectively on the comics plus a fraction of other era books, depending on their nature, I mean you've seen the eruption over the Order 66 book, haven't you? The strange thing is that DHC seem to look at both OT and PT and mix pieces from both and well, you love KOTOR and that's a prime example. Yet DR? It just seems to be doom an' gloom the whole time, just war, no adventure. The idea of doing what KOTOR is doing post-#35, a story of Gryff running a scam? A change of pace and tone after the heavily serious last 6-8 issues? No, they wouldn't do it yet it helps the overall story greatly.

I'm still a fan of Luke and the rest of the big three, after all these years and all these books, which is why I'm posting in a SOS Luke thread, so I'd still like to follow their life story... if it weren't so damn irritating and depressing. So I'm still following the Legacy era, but because of how bad Luke and others' lives have become, that led me to become more interested in other eras, like KotOR and the Legacy comics. On the one hand, I like the Legacy era more, because of the possibilites, its all wide-open, there's nothing known after it so far, and despite how dark that era is, its closer to the Rebellion and Empire/Dark Times era, so there's still hope and some victories. However, Cade isn't that likable of a character. KotOR on the other hand is set just a few years before the video games, and while KotOR 1 ended on a somewhat high note, most of that was erased by KotOR 2, so I don't really care too much for the KotOR era, especially with how many prequel elements were thrown in. However, Zayne is just such an awesome character, that he makes up for everything else.
I'll get into MGS4 someday, but knowing how... good I've heard, I really have to set aside some vacation for it next break.
And I haven't been following the new RC book news, since I know I won't like it, considering the author, but could you give me a general idea of the... "eruption" you mentioned going on about that book? Without any spoilers? Since I knew it would be bad because of the author, but "eruption" makes it sound like its even worse than I expected.
Yeah, the saddest thing about the end of the last Batman/Zatanna possible romance is that Batman essentially said he's too messed up a person to actually have a romance. And considering who most of Batman's girlfriends have been (Selina, Talia, etc.), Zatanna's probably a bit too stable or normal or law-abiding. They left that thread a bit open though. And funny enough, the idea of a Batman/Zatanna romance was referenced in Superman/Batman when Batman was briefly shown suupposedly tempting illusions, so who knows.
And we're back to yet another banner in EUC now, though at least its a little bit less silly than the others, so can't tell if the prank is still going on or not. Although I didn't mind the Pokemon one, the Barbie one hurt my eyes, the... something-team was odd, and I wasn't online much when it was up, though I found the one with Palpatine, Boba and Cade funny.

As to RC, it's, going from comments read - no, haven't bought the book, Gods forbid! - Traviss' known anti-Jedi viewpoint x10. You can imagine the fan reaction to this....

...oh dear, that really doesn't sound good. I wasn't expecting any different, especially considering the title, and the author, and I was expecting disaster, but if people are still gettign upset over it, it might be even worse than expected. Just when you think the books can't get any worse, they reach new lows. Oh well, next time I'm in a really, really bad depressed mood maybe I'll take a peek at it. It'll either make me laugh, or at least then it won't spoil a good mood.
I should probably go read those Coruscant Nights book to clear the muck from my mind.

Nobody145 Nyna Calixte is a very... interesting character, to say the least.
That's putting it mildly!
Yes, I guess she loved Cade and Kol. Still, how could she then go and marry someone else? Wasn't she still married to Kol? And it's going to be very interesting to find out if Gunner is Kol's biological daughter or Yage's. And I wonder if Morrigan or Calixte is her true personna?
And Morrigan did go to great lengths to get Cade out of the Sith Temple, though that also fits her agenda of undermining the Sith. While she did help arrange the Sith-Imperial alliance, the Ossus Massacre happened before she knew about it,
True, but she HAD to know it was highly likely that the Sith were going to eventually go after the Jedi. The Sith and Jedi have been like oil and water since forever. She had to know that she was endangering Kol and the Jedi Order, unless she thought they were better equipped to deal wih the Sith than they were?
At the moment, it seems like she does want Veed as galactic Emperor, with her controlling him to some extent,
I don't know how she could ever think it would be possible to be in control with the Sith around.
originally, I loved how it was exploring a brand new era of Star Wars, but by now Zayne's taken up most of my interest, comic-wise, since Zayne is such an awesome character. Not to mention that Cade simply isn't that likabe.
I agree. Zayne IS an awesome character! I really do wish that he were Luke's ancestor! I'm disappointed that he's not. For me, Cade is't likeable at all. And I think it's a danger to make a major character so unlikeable, because if readers don't like the character, they're not going to care what happens to him/her. It affects the enjoyment of the story if one doesn't care for the main character.
MasterSkywalker86 School just started and I had a rather amusing week. it seems my posting style falls under the categorey of "posts for a while, vanishes, and reappears".
Hi, MS! I'm glad you're "reappeared", though you seem to have vanished yet again. How is school?
anyway I'm in the middle of VOTF and so far I haven't wanted to rip the book in half which is a very good sign.
I'm glad to hear that! Have you finished it yet?
I just which the EU POST ROTJ would have been made to series rather than the clone wars series....really haven't we said enough with the first clone war series ?
I certainly think so, yes. I don't know what Lucas' fascination with the era is.
Jedi Ben
Falcon should be out i October but I don't care about thatt, while Mindor I think is Dec.
Yes, I think it's December 28th. Let's hope they don't delay Mindor yet again though. It has already been delayed twice.
Nobody145 On the subject of the upcoming Millenium Falcon book... well, yeah, JB summed up the initial problems with it pretty well. Ahough there is some hope because Luceno is writing it, but honestly, its set in the post-LotF status quo, so its hard to tell how much even Luceno could salvage from that horrible situation.
Well, he managed a miracle with TUF. I'm hoping for another miracle.
There was also some random speculation that they moved up Falcon and pushed back Mindor originally as LotF actually needs an epilogue (actually, it needs a proper ending for that matter), but I think someone official said that Luceno or something was done and Stover wasn't, so that's why the release dates were switched.
Yes, LotF needed a proper ending. And I still think that may be why Falcon was moved up. Mindor was already supposed to be out last February and it was delayed until October. Now it's been delayed again. If it was already due out in February, what could possibly be taking so long that the book will be almost a year overdue? While I'm willing to wait for quality, that does seem like an excessive delay, so it does bother me.
MasterSkywalker86 I hope Stover gives us a good epic Luke book, I sure could use one.
Oh, so could *I*! And this book seems to be the most eagerly awaited one at the moment. I hope we're not all going to be disappointed.
Jedi Ben * There's no need for DR to do a 9-book series all in HC, but if people show an inclination to buy this stuff, why not?
I really hope this backfires on them and they find that people aren't all that eager to dish out the money for 9 hardcovers.
Nobody145 Its worse than anything Kyle Katarn has done continuity wise, and it messes up more stuff in one game than have happened during the whole Death Star plans debacle over the last few decades.
Speaking of Death stars, is it true that Bail and a few other Rebellion leaders were jailed on the Death star two years before ANH??? If so, that's ridiculous!
Have a nice holiday, hope you enjoy it.
Yes! I hope you're enjoying your holiday too, JB!
Especially since I still find it kind of annoying that after everything the Falcon has been through, the thing still has some secrets? Sure sounds contrived to me.
It certainly does! Plus, apparently Allana finds some device or something. Do you mean that in all those years Han or Chewie didn't find it but a little girl *does*?
Jedi Ben * Typho wasn't exactly thinking straight much of the time though, was he?
True, but still...
The strange thing is that DHC seem to look at both OT and PT and mix pieces from both and well, you love KOTOR and that's a prime example.
True, though Legacy seems more PT than OT. However, you're right that DR always seems to put out just doom and gloom. As you said, they seem to include only war, not adventure.
Nobody145 I'm still a fan of Luke and the rest of the big three, after all these years and all these books, which is why I'm posting in a SOS Luke thread, so I'd still like to follow their life story... if it weren't so damn irritating and depressing.
I know. After all they've been through and all they've sacrificed, and all they've done for the galaxy, their lives seem to keep getting worse instead of better.
On the one hand, I like the Legacy era more, because of the possibilites, its all wide-open,
The post-RotJ era used to be like that, especially after VotF. Unfortunately, now with the Legacy comics parked about 90 years in the future, we no longer have that chance for infinite possibilities in the post-RotJ era. That really bugs me. And, as you said, Cade really ISN'T a very likeable character.

In regard to your question about that scene in TFU, well... that's not quite exactly how that scene goes, but yeah, that's pretty much it. Which is why I'm so outraged about the continuity nightmare TFU is, not to mention it trying to one-up a lot of Star Wars and EU elements. And that scene on the Death Star isn't even the most outrageous change to established continuity. With TFU and the new Clone Wars media blitz about to hit us, continuity isn't worth much anymore, sadly.
And Calixte wanted Veed on the throne since before the end of the Sith-Imperial War, and the Sith's aid did allow the Imperials to defeat the combined GA and Jedi, but unfortunately Veed didn't quite consult with her on everything, and he wasn't quite intelligent enough to see the Sith double-cross coming. Calixte was, so she warned Fel to not be there, so that with Fel on the run, Krayt's power over the Empire wouldn't be absolute, and Krayt would still need the Moffs, assuring her own position for a while at least. And freeing Cade hinders Krayt as well, and does kind of help in the eventual overthrow of the Sith, since without Cade's ability, Krayt will likely die sooner or later. So Calixte was planning to use Veed as her frontman for the Emperor position, but Veed's trust in the Sith to help his own
And while Calixte probably knew the Sith were going to clash with the Jedi eventually, when the attack on Ossus began, it wasn't just Sith storming the Ossus Academy, there were also lots of Imperial troops and resources supporting the Sith. This is speculation, but if Calixte had known about the attack, she probably would've tried to stop it, perhaps because of love for Cade at least (and probably Kol, considering how she still keeps that hologram around), and also because the Jedi are good for countering the Sith. Roan Fel ordered the Jedi left alone on Ossus, so in theory, with the Jedi around to counter the Sith, she could've played them against each other, but the sudden combined Sith-Imperial attack authorized by Veed and led by Sith overwhelmed the Jedi and caught Calixte off-guard. Veed was probably showing a bit too much independent thought at that point. So Calixte was not happy about the Ossus Massacre, perhaps because with the Jedi around, dealing with the Sith will be that much harder, or because of her husband and son being dead, or perhaps both. Although Morrigan did leave, so its not like she's sleeping with someone behind Kol's back, she said she was leaving, and that was that. And Kol probably insisted on the marriage because of Cade, but I also see Kol as a traditionalist so he'd probably want an official marriage. Anyway, in universe no one has any idea about the Morrigan/Nyna dual identity, so its not like anyone can call her on that. Though the Veed and Calixte partnership is a bit... odd, but they actually seem to make good conspirators, in that Veed wants to be Emperor, and Calixte says that's fine as long as she controls him, and Veed seems mostly fine with that too, so if Veed did become emperor their... relationship would continue.
And of course, there's the odd speculation that Morrigan might have a third identity, based on the name Morrigan coming from some old goddess with three identities or something like that, with guesses ranging from Celeste Morne to... well, lots of other guesses, not to mention how some people wonder if Calixte has Force powers too, given how she's had some success at shielding her thoughts from Force users (Sith and Imperial Knights who are sorta Jedi-ish or at least Jedi-level). I prefer to think that she just has quite a bit of mental discipline, since I'd like if someone was just not "weak-minded" as old Ben Kenobi put it, so long ago, to show that mental skill and experience can allow a "mundane" to exist alongside Force-sensitive characters. At least the Legacy comics has non-Jedi or Sith characters, something that LotF seriously lacked as it went on.
And yes, I know the Legacy comics sorta lock in the post-NJO time period a little, especially with Del Rey oh so subtly shoving in beginnings to stuff we see in the comics ( ), but I've almost completely given up on that time period, so having the Legacy comics as the established future isn't really a big loss in my opinion. The prequel-era stuff was even more locked in and... wait, you probably don't like that era either, never mind.
And Allana is a Force-sensitive child of two Force-sensitive parents, so she has uber-plot device powers, which explains how she alone probably noticed a secret panel or finds something like that or another contrived event, when neither Han, Leia or the various Skywalkers who have been on that ship over the last few decades have ever noticed it.
Oh yeah, and I don't think Luceno alone saved the NJO from a bad ending, since with books like The Final Prophecy and parts of the Force Heretic trilogy, there were signs of improvement, of possible redemption or rather reformation for the Vong, and there were other good events, like for instance, Omas' election meant less New Republic incompetence, even if the Republic name was almost irreparably damaged by that time. Even if SbS was one of the darkest moments, with the fall of Coruscant, after that things generally improved, Jacen as less whiny after Vergere tortured him a while, Jaina was more effective, Kyp was less chaotic and more cooperative, Corran was back from exile on Corellia, and ACKBAR WAS BACK! So Luceno had a decent lead-up to the surprisingly happy ending of TUF. Like for instance, Anakin's lightsaber. That lightsaber, after its long, long journey and many wielders, I thought it would be lost forever when it rolled off a building during the final battle, but instead they manage to dig up Anakin's lightsaber yet again, and Han leaves it at the Chewbacca memorial, bringing closure to the loss of both Chewbacca and Anakin.
LotF on the other hand was one long mess, beginning from DNT and just kept getting worse as the series progressed, ending with Invincible, which was a disaster on a whole other level, so Luceno really has his work cut out for him, so much so that I think its impossible even for him, short of massive retcons, but they never retcon the bad stuff.

Ah, the Force Unleashed! It was pretty, that has to be said, Ching, Dazo and the other guy did some great visuals...the story, however....
Anyone know the Battle of Corellia? It was new to me. The inclusion of the Death Star was clumsy, Byss would have been cooler by far but the chances of anyone successfully raiding that is zero so nope. The big continuity spanner starts big with Executor appearing too early, it's a full SSD, no artistic glitch, a full-on continuity screw-job.
As a bit of holiday fun it's fine, as an integrated work within SW? Try integrating this and you get a headache. Moving swiftly on....
Secret Invasion 6 was surprisingly OK, but the line: 'You should have thought of that before you turned our brothers into cows' demanded a harsh response along the lines of: 'And the burgers were great!'. SI is the latest but by no means the first example of villains having something bad happen to them at the heroes' hands (that they brought upon themselves by doing crap in the first place) and then claim it as carte blanche justification for every evil act that follows and I'm bored crapless by it now. At least when DC did it, the response was: Yeah, we shouldn't mindwiped you but you still don't get to do this! The lack of any response was quite damning. I'd say I'm approaching a period of boredom with Marvel that will likely see my following it in trade save for select titles such as the brilliant Captain Britain & MI-13.
