*snorts* Yeah, like that's never happened before.

Really? That seems a little... cold of the Jedi Order. To my knowledge (which is probably imperfect) Luke Skywalker never told anybody they couldn't be a Jedi because they were too impatient or tested too many boundaries.
Sounds to me like a hell of a student. Unless, the post LOTF Jedi are all about turning out mindless little automaton Jedi?
Honestly, I think NJO got a little too much like the OJO as the years went on. Their over-inflated sense of confidence allowing the Sith to sneak up on them. Again.
Not that the Sith couldn't have done it, they're masters at hiding in plain sight, but still, come on.
Be true to yourself, be true to the Force and a great Jedi shall you be. Seems to me that everytime the Jedi lose sight of that fact, there's hell to pay. You'd think with all these holocrons floating around, somebody, somewhere would have picked up on that little tidbit.
But then again, maybe not. *shrugs*
CoTD should arrive today... I'm so pumped, I can't wait. *bounces up and down*

Well, the Jedi Order changed since Luke's times. Even in LOTF we see that its starring to look like more and more like the PT-era order, where things are more formal. No more free, adventurous training and using up everyone's potential (however small it may seem), on Yavin Academy. *sigh*
But you're right, that seems cold and a tad unfair. The Jedi should be the ones giving another chance, at least according to their teachings.

Cade Brigade -
I'm going out of town for a few days (moving!) but Piper said she'd take over my spot since I think our team will be up soon. I'll let you know when I return.

divapilot: I read something somewhere... (I wish I had been clever enough to think this up all on my own, but hey, ya get what ya get)... and the jist of it was this:
Heroes must be flawed. There must be the distinct possibility of failure. Otherwise, if the character is not flawed, if he's perfect, then he's a god. And readers/viewers cannot relate to gods.
I like that. And it is that fine line between success and failure that is so compelling about Cade's story, I think. There's just no way to know which way he'll go or how far he can fall and/or rebound.
Wow. After reading that link, it looks like I was waaaay late for making that connection. And I thought I was so smart.
Ok, back to reading Campbellian mythological theories. And trashy summer novels.
You ARE smart, gal! (I certainly never made the connection until someone mentioned it, LOL.) And speaking of trashy summer novels , there was a reference to ANH in an Anita Blake book I'm reading: "I had a second to hope that he wasn't going to try an Obi-Wan on Lieutenant Nicols. You know, these are not the droids you're looking for. Nicols was stronger willed than that."
Laurell K. Hamilton knows Star Wars.
CJM: That seems a little... cold of the Jedi Order. To my knowledge (which is probably imperfect) Luke Skywalker never told anybody they couldn't be a Jedi because they were too impatient or tested too many boundaries.
No, Luke didn't. He even worked with the weaker padawans to find them a place within the Order. Some would argue that he was too lenient, though. All things considered. He wouldn't be Luke without his compassion, though.
IIRC, back in the prequel era, padawans who couldn't cut it as Jedi were sent off to the Agricorps, or something like that. With Cade, though, we have to wonder if Cade was ever all that committed to becoming a Jedi in the first place. Like Yoda said, someone has to WANT to be a Jedi. Maybe his whole heart wasn't in it?
Sey: Good luck with moving!!

I always felt that Kol would have the same ideas as Luke, and probably thought Cade would grow out of it. However I suppose there was varying points of view on the council who believed Cade should leave, but I doubt that anyone would have tried to say anything since the Jedi put huge stock in the Skywalkers and Kol turned out fine so they hoped Cade would be influenced by his father.

Geez, two minutes and you were late?!? I haven't even been home all day. I guess we should be making a list in hopes they don't get all seven. Be prepared, as they say.
