This thread is for casual, community-based discussion of LotF: Invincible. It is not the place for in-depth analysis--for that, please go to the Literature forum Invincible thread. It is also not the place to discuss how much you hate the series, to bash the authors, or to get bogged down in acrimonius arguments. You're free to express dislike for the work, but we don't want the sort of negativity that turns off other users as well--please keep others' thoughts in mind and if you didn't like it, then say so in a way that doesn't bring everyone down.
Any violation of this rule will be met with an instant ban.
Discussions in this thread do not require spoiler highlight, but any spoilers posted in other EUC threads must be highlighted. As a reminder, the code is {hl=black}spoilers here{/hl} but the {} are to be replaced by []. Posting unhighlighted spoilers outside of this thread will also result in an instant ban.

I wonder how, Fett is going to stay mandalore if he cant even land on the planet. And if the nano virus is airborn, can he even come contact with anything from mandalore, due to traces picked up by clothes, equipment, ...?

Ugh...I am not a fan of Tahiri right now. I majorly dislike the seducing of Ben scene. Could've gone without that.

It was unpleasant, but I think that's what we need from Sith - the ability to cross those borders. Then again, there's evil, and then there's simply wrong. Which I suppose is what a Sith is.
To the nanovirus, someone, Traviss' Order 66 novel will explain a few tidbits about that, I hear.
So, who reckons Caedus was redeemed?

I kind of doubt it. It was a given that he was trying to save Tenel Ka and Allana, but IMO he was doing it for selfish reasons. Still Sithly, but not to the extent we saw in the three previous books.

I agree! She has never been one of my favorites but it just felt sick for her to use seduction
to get information from a child! She is an adult and Sith or not - it's still wrong. Then she had
to go and kill Sheuv - and in front of Ben! I was so proud of him for arranging for Shevu's remains to be
sent to his wife.
The Zel twins were not seriously flirting with him - IMO. Theirs was more of a way to make him feel OK
with them and to lighten things up.
This is definitely one of my favorites in the LotF. I did not want it to end. 
Did not know that the nanojunk could come up in Order 66 - I will be looking forward to that. Are there
details posted on this?

I loved the first 2/3 of the book. I thought it was well written, the characterizations were good. I loved seeing Artoo and C3PO back and involved in some capacity. I enjoyed the Jacen jokes at the beginning of each chapter and the contrast between those and how Jacen is now. That was an excellent tool used by Denning, imo.
Leia/Jaina/Ben mission - enjoyed this part, though Ben still isn't acting like a Jedi completely which I guess makes him unique, but the hero complex in that respect is going to get old fast for me.
Jedi Council - loved seeing the interactions between the characters. I think this was my favorite part of the book because Denning was able to incorporate a lot of characters for this part and the missions. It is always nice to see people mentioned who should be. (Minor complaint about the new "Derek" Jedi Knight, we have plenty of others who could have been used including Valin, Jysella, and the ones in Betrayal.) I like how the Council was shown to be wise and powerful in that they predicted Jaina's request and had already discussed things.
Jaina/Jacen duel #1 - I thought this was good. I liked how powerful he made Jacen and I loved the idea of Luke using visions against him in order to bring him down. The technique of thinking he was fighting Luke was something different for the story (unless this has been done in comics, if so please tell me). Employing different tactics to bring down a Sith was interesting and needed. I do wonder why Jaina wasn't told about this though. Could she have ruined it if she had known? Was it necessary to keep a secret from her?
Ben's Captivity - like I stated above, I hated this part. Tahiri was never a Sith, she was pretending, imo in order for the Anakin thing. Because of this notion, which was again reinforced throughout the book with her actions and hesitants, I don't think she ever should have tried to seduce a 14 year old. That sickened me while I was reading the book. I don't think I have ever been disgusted like that before while reading a SW book. I dislike Shevu being killed off as he was an interesting character and one of Ben's only friends. I enjoyed Ben's escape though.
Leia/Han - loved them in this book. I think they were acting like they should have and I enjoyed their working with Luke and acceptance of what needed to be done. They have been written to be accepting of this for many books now, so I was glad to see that hadn't changed.
Luke - I loved this mysterious, grandmaster Luke. I think he did well to respect Ben's wishes at being treated like any other Jedi Knight and trusting in the force that he'd be able to take care of himself. Luke showed great cunning and poise in the face of the Sith and was able to outmaneuver him with those ideas. I think before I would've been ok with seeing Luke step aside, but if he's continued to be written in this capacity then I want him to stay around.
Last 1/3 of the book was something else entirely and not in a good way:
Jaina/Jacen round 2 - This is where the book falls short imo. This duel has been coming since book 1 when he court marshaled Jaina and possibly further back because the Vong wanted it during the NJO. I was disappointed at how short it seemed while reading the book. I also was disappointed that the entire rest of the book set out to show that Jacen was irredeemable, completely, totally, no questions asked and then at the last minute bobbled and made it kinda gray. I don't think Jacen was redeemed. I agree with those that say he was still somehow doing that for himself or out of selfishness. This ending almost ruined the book for me though. I was so excited about this book and hoping for a Jacen death and to have him be a bad guy, but in this capacity he's almost like Vader again, which I didn't want. At the last minute he sacrificed himself to save his child. Which is why it is gray for me on whether he was redeemed or not.
Daala - I don't even know how to comment on this. I am flabbergasted.

Nope, as far as I know, there isn't a precedent for Luke's use of visions. The nearest you could get is SotME's line about Luke being Ben Kenobi but that's still quite distinct.

So... I just thought of something. You know that nanovirus that hit Mandalore? Wouldn't that kill all the surviving clones and anyone related to them? (Traviss makes it sound like that number is quite large)

She did? I thought given the talk about that one old clone seemed that the number would be relatively small.
IIRC most of the clones from the Clone Wars should be dead due to old age, if not lost in action by LotF.

Unless Jaing handed the cure to every clone on Mandalore, which wouldn't surprise me. Skirata wouldn't have discriminated if possible.

The irony being they could all be dead by now. After living off all those years, beating incredibly long odds, every one with Fett's clone gene could die. I wonder how much damage that would do to Mandalore?

I personally think that Luke stole the show as far as the book is concerned. I felt that Luke showed he was the most powerful by his use of the visions. It made Caedus look like an idiot throughout the book.

I'd agree with that. I think some missed the complexity of Luke in this book though, which is why some people are upset by the book. They've missed the point, imo.
