The basics
Some of you may have seen the Insider article from back in April with its list of what it called the “100 best things about Star Wars…ever!”. Regardless of whether you think their list was accurate or not, their method of using page views from the SW databank seems flawed. What better way than to get input from a bunch of Star Wars fans, and then compile their lists?
Now, obviously, the phrase “100 best things” is rather vague. That’s fine, it means there are plenty of options to choose from. Most entries will probably tend to be characters, places, ships, or species, though there are also groups (The Jedi, The Sith, The Empire, etc) and ideas (such as “The Force”). When a couple friends and I made our list, we included such entries as “Quoting Star Wars” and “Star Wars Parodies”, as these have become very commonplace and popular. The way we did our list was to include elements from all of SW EU as well as the movies, though we gave a special emphasis to the movies. Hence, for this list, anything from the SW universe, or relating to SW, is perfectly acceptable, though obviously it’s up to each of you to determine how much you want to weight the movies as opposed to EU, or if you even include EU.
Also, and this part actually differs from Insider’s list, certain characters will be grouped together – i.e., Darth Vader and Anakin Skywalker will be listed together, as will Darth Sidious and Palpatine, Clone Troopers and Stormtroopers, and others (see below). I know, there are plenty of good arguments for keeping them separate, but there are at least as many for keeping them together. In addition, grouping these allows for more entries to make the top 100, and more is better! The Insider list is posted below, as are a few other examples of ideas, along with what entries are grouped together.
Grouped together (this list may have some additions made later):
Anakin/Vader
Palpatine/Sidious
Any other character that undergoes a name change, such as when joining the Sith (Jacen/Caedus, for example)
Clone Troopers/Stormtroopers (including Snowtroopers, Sandtroopers, etc)
Rebel Alliance/New Republic/Galactic Alliance
R2-D2/C-3PO (probably the most controversial one on here, but they are somewhat of a unit)
John Williams/SW Soundtrack/London Symphony Orchestra
Clone Commandos/ARC Troopers/ other similarly specialized clone troops (however, this is separate from regular Clonetroopers and Stormtroopers)

Obviously, feel free to include entries not mentioned here. This is just provided to provide some ideas.
Where the countdown will be posted
This thread is being posted in both SWC and EUC. Indicate in your PM (see below) which of the two forums you are from, or if you participate in both, which forum you would like to see the results posted in. Whichever forum sends in more votes gets to host the countdown thread. But don’t worry – the other forum will at least get a heads up that its being posted and a link to the appropriate thread.
What to Do
Send me a PM with your list of what you think are the best things about Star Wars. I would recommend each list contain at least 10-15 entries, although if you want to list more, up to 50, that’s fine, and please do – longer individual lists will result in a more accurate final list, and there are a myriad of choices to choose from. Please title your PM “Top 100 Star Wars List – from SWC/EUC” (pick one) or something similar enough as to be easily recognizable as to its contents. Be sure to indicate which forum you want it in, so that your forum can host the countdown!
To make it simple, votes will be due at the end of the month – so make sure you send them in by July 31, before midnight board time.
Please feel free to also post your lists in this thread, although they will not be counted unless they are sent to me in a PM as well.
