So who loves this series?!

Okay, I have to admit... I'm being a little bit of a poser by calling myself. I have literally only read one book, Eaten Alive, and I JUST finished it in a single reading. However, I immediately went searching on Amazon and eBay and ordered the next two in the series. I was always a huge goosebumps fan as a kid growing up in the 90's, so when I saw this book was the SW Universe equivalent, I had to go back and get it! I have to admit, it's not perfect by a long shot, and some of the cameos seem like a far fetch... but over all I really liked it! I'm starting to dig the whole "young adult" side of the star wars books... you can generally finish a whole book in one day, and it's a nice dessert between bigger EU novels. As much as I liked it, though, like I said, it has problems... while I like the movie characters showing up in the middle, their sudden rescue at the end seems VERY forced (no pun intended). Also, when Tash meets up with leia, you think they would have a special bond, both being girls who survived the destruction of Alderaan because they were far from home, and both having lost their parents because of it. But no such connection occurs... similarly, you'd think watching D'vouran implode upon itself would have some sort of thematic parallel to Alderaan no longer existing... but again, nothing. But I understand this is a kid's book so it's not going to be the kind of stuff you'd get in a Zahn novel, and on that level, I liked it, it made me feel like a kid again and even laughed out loud at a few parts! So who else is a fan of this series?

- Jinx!

I have found one of these books, though I'll admit to not having tried very hard. They're fun, no doubt, but I never took them very serious, I'm afraid. But they link very well to the other experiments of the Empire; Waru and Triclops, for example.

Ah, I remember Galaxy of Fear. Only read 2 or 3 and though I too did not take them very seriously within the timeline. I did enjoy them.

If I read them now, not so sure, I admit. But then, I hold a place for them now as they were of the nostalgic past for me.

Well this is part me taking a sudden interest in the "young readers" section of the Star Wars universe, I also picked up the more "Recent" Jude Watson lines such as Apprentice, Jedi Quest and Last of the Jedi... had to reach far back to find these. I think I'm attracted to the short but sweet nature of them, nice to read one or two between big novels. But even as an adult I can appreciate the campy "horror" of a goosebumps type book. Eh it's all just god fun, and they have funny covers :P

I love the Galaxy of Fear books grin and I take them seriously. They're more canon to me than certain over parts of the Star Wars universe.

I've only read the first book so far, but D'vouran struck me as a pretty interesting idea for a planet, I wish it was explored more in other EU material. Actually, I was kind of disheartened when I looked up most of the Galaxy of Fear elements in wookiepedia, and in the "appearances" section they were pretty much all exclusive TO Galaxy of Fear... which kind of sucked, because like many of you, I'm sure, I read Star Wars books because I like how they all interconnect... Galaxy of Fear just seems to autonomous though, I wish writers would mention people like Smadda the Hutt or other things...

I remember those books from when I was a a little person. I never really liked them, but I did like the pretty covers. Although I kind of liked the Jedi prince series more, I sometimes enjoy GOF.

I hate that too. Someone goes to all the trouble to create a whole set of characters, places, and events only for future writers to neglect pretty much everything that that person made.

There are a lot of characters/villains created in the Galaxy of Fear books that could make a reappearance in any number of new material, but no one has done that yet.

I've read all of them. I liked them. My favorite was Army of Terror. I only read six times. Zak was my favorite. Partially because we were so alike. But I enjoyed them.

So I've moved onto City of the Dead now. I can't say if I like it more or less than Eaten Alive... it's just different. This one seems a lot more goosebumps like to me, which is what the series was going for. Honestly I didn't think Eaten Alive was much of a children's horror story... it was just a story. This one actually comes off as creepy. That said, I don't really care for the pacing as much as I did in Eaten Alive, however there does seem to be a little more depth to Zak's character this time around, which is a good thing.

I read them when I was young, and then re-read them again sometime in my late teens. I like them, I mean the writing is low-level since they're made for kids, but it's got interesting (and generally creepy) plots.

My favorite, however, was definitely the one with Thrawn in it (don't remember what it was called, but I do remember a swarm of beetles). *sigh*

It was called Swarm. Swarm was my second favorite. My favorite is Army of Terror.

I think I liked the one with the theme park space ship the best.

That one was quite interesting. And the solution was quite clever, of course. grin
