I just called the bookstore today to make sure they were going to have the book and put one on reserve. Four days...

*shakes head*

I offered to FedEx it to ya. Then you could have shipped it to Kick. Then she could have sent it back.

And we all could have written someting truly profound inside the cover...

Sisterhood of the Travelling SW Novel...FTW!

Oh, I'm reading it alright! I'm just a darn slow reader... But I'm almost one third into the book.

And yep, I think I'll get rid of my writer's block in a bit. It's a bit strange that there are some things in that book that parallel with what I'd wondered for Burden myself. Hmm... thinking

Sey Edit: No spoilers until Tuesday and even then you must HTR (highlight to read) the spoilers in the thread. Even little things are spoilers.

So I was rereading Rebel Stand and I can't figure out why people called Jag 'captain cardboard' during the NJO books. Or is Allston the only one who gave him a personality?

Rebel Stand posted:

Kyp sniffed dubiously at his glass. "Paint thinner?"
"We're not that lucky," Jag said. "While we've been waiting, I've been determining its effect on local insects. One hundred percent deadly."

laugh

Rebel Stand same scene posted:

"That's better," Jaina said. "Jag, why are males so stupid?"
"Biological predisposition. Here's an example." Jag took another sip. Even in the darkness, the ripple of anguish that moved from his neck to his feet was clearly visible.

Because people can't get past the fact that he had military discipline. Jag had personality to spare from the start.

Everything that Havac said, plus I'll add this. Horsey, my friend, most of the Jag bashing boils down to one thing, at least that I've observed, and it is as follows:

Jag isn't what that particular person wanted for Jaina, which means they didn't get their way. So instead of just saying..."Hey, I would have prefered so-in-so but it didn't work out that way", they bash Fel.

It's really quite amusing. The ignorance just jumps off the board and tickles me, actually. laugh laugh And all the while I sit back and giggle, just like I had to start doing in the Invincible thread. Damn! It's hell to be right! devil

Or, sometimes, they just hate Imperials in general. Either or, it's ignorance and has nothing to do with the character.

Just my two cents. happy

Havac: Good luck with your exams, mate!

Horsey: I don't know why anyone would think that Jag doesn't have personality. Even in Ruin, you see his stiff-upper-lip Imperial discipline but you also get a glimpse of the young man underneath.

Elain Cunningham gives a us a view of the fun-loving boy trying to impress a pretty girl in Dark Journey.
Aaron Allston let's his inner Rebel out in Rebel Dream and Rebel Stand.
Troy Denning let us see the man in love warring with the military commander in DNT.

Pure awesomeness. cool

As for when someone trots out the "Captain Cardboard" comment, I just ignore it. It's usually, but not always, a disaffected J/Z shipper who just can't let it go.

Just because he wasn't a cast memeber of the YJK makes him unworthy of any kind of fan following. talk_hand

FTR, I've never seen a serious poster sling the "cardboard" comment. Even staying well away from the ship debates, he's just an awesome all-around character. He's badass because he get's the job done without the Force and a lightsabre.

wink Han Solo, only better.
