Blue_but_beautiful posted: I would love to see some sort of 'I,Jedi' as jhc36 put it, with Vergere and her life living a lie among the Yuuzhan Vong. I think it would be something both Yuuzhan Vong and general NJO fans alike would really enjoy reading. I'd like to see Stover write it if it did happen, his characterization of both the Yuuzhan Vong and Vergere in perticular are what i'd call spot on. Hell, just a Yuuzhan Vong spin off (much like they did the General Grievous comic book series, or the Boba Fett mini-series) would make me wave my tentacle headdress like I wasn't supposed to, with joy!
But the Grievous comic was awful D:
Better yet, make somebody who hates Star Wars and wants to make a thorough, intelligent critique of it write Vergere. Yeah, I'd like to see the Jedi on trial.
A blurb about the Yuuzhan Vong in one of the sourcebooks, or an interview, said that they believed they would be elevated to the level of their gods if they found beings to replace them. Somehow this reminds me of the premise of the Uplift Books by David Brin (said critic of Star Wars XP) where senior alien races go looking for presentients to genetically modify. This also fits into the theme of The Gardener (mentioned by an imperial officer, hm).

Ah, I said along the lines of, not exactly the same - the writing for the GG comic wasn't it's best and then there was that very wrong pannel! *says no more*
What I meant was, they should do a spin off comic book series, or a novel, based on Yuuzhan Vong or Vergere's time with them, like they have done with other characters in the past.
The people currently working on the Legacy comic book series would be ideal for that.
And do you remember what sourcebook it was you read that blurb from? It's the first time i've heard that.

I believe the blurb was in the NJO sourcebook. Hm, I wonder if there were "near Vong", offshoots of the species (even ones who have cut out that strand of DNA that makes them succeptible to Alpha Red). I mean there's so many humans that there are "breeds" of them, so why not other abundant species?

yeah i as well do not remember reading that blurb before. i have the njo sourcebook... i'll check it out. i dont know if there would be any offshoots of the yuuzhan vong... if there were, the true yuuzhan vong would have hunted them down as the 'posers' they are or would have made them into laborers. (ie: shamed ones)

No, I meant after the war. Also, the home galaxy would of been so big that there would have been numerous pockets of space too remote to search (say a worldship landed on a remote cluster like Hapes and nobody found out).

I also have the NJO sourcebook, can you remember what page/section it was from Kecen?
And I have to agree with jhc on this one, even after the war, while the Yuuzhan Vong seem content to share the galaxy - as far as we know anyway - with the rest of it's inhabitants, they have managed to hold onto many of their strict traditions by the looks of things. I think that an offshoot race would probably be seen as an insult to their culture in some circles of their society. That and they'd have to be genetically compatible with another speices to produce some kind of hybrid - or shaped as Qelah Kwaad did with the slayers. They seem to have embraced some more liberal ideals, but there is still a great deal to do with them that seems inexorably Yuuzhan Vong.

yeah it makes sense that way for sure.
on a totally different sidenote. i'm not sure if any of you play the star wars miniature game. (i'm a big fan) wizards of the coast is gearing up for another release of 60 new figures based on the legacy of the force comics. currently the yuuzhan vong have been represented with 7 figures to date. with the upcoming release they are adding an additional 4 more yuuzhan vong. so far the only main characters are Tsavong Lah, Nom Anor, and Yomin Carr. Just found that out yesterday. so i'm pretty excited by this news. legacy of the force minis

PUUL! I logged in here with exactly the same intention of breaking the above to everyone...guess that's why you're the Supreme one and i'm not
I literally fell out my seat when I read that along with the photo's of the up and coming minis. This is some fantastic news, though i've found it nigh on impossible to get the first lot of Yuuzhan Vong minis they released in the UK, I think i'm going to have to resort to Ebay for Tsavong Lah. These though....wow! Nice to see they have a shaper in there, and shouldn't that be a Jeedai Hunter?

No, no, what I meant by offshoots of the race were isolated cultures the main population on Sekot DOESN'T know of. The kind that hides their heresy from the big bad empire out to get them. A bit like how humans have ethnicities. I doubt a race so seperated by distance on worldships would be homogenous (not the least a race whose empire once spanned a galaxy).
WOW, now I'm thinking of buying the minis when somebody puts up a set of YV on ebay XP
Hm, there seems to be at least one femme in there (looks a bit like an Amy Lee getup), and the new warrior sculpt looks like s/he is singing karaoke. The Jedi hunter is very Matrix-esque. Oh and the elite warrior looks a bit like s/he is pole-dancing.
I'm glad to see Legacy-era characters too. Especially Doroth....Cade Skywalker. Marasiah is stylish like a shampoo commerical model. I was almost expecting Nei Rin to be in the mix, dressed up as Glinda XP
I got to see the sketch for the Talon box art at Celebration IV, teehee. Terese Nielsen signed my copy of The Final Prophecy.

i currently have all the yuuzhan vong minis... and when i play at tournaments i'm usually that faction. at gencon they actually hold a 5,000 dollar star wars miniature tourney... i think i'm going this year. and if i go... i will definately be running a yuuzhan vong only squad.

this has been brought up before... and i dont have my ultimate alien anthology handy... but i believe that they have about the same lifespan as humans... perhaps a little longer but not too much. i believe the average human lives about 160 years...so maybe 200 for yuuzhan vong... like i said... i dont have the UAA. if somebody has it please correct me.

I do not have that copy of the anthology either, but I heard pretty much the same. It was mentioned in one or two of the books that genetically, Yuuzhan Vong were extremely like humans in most ways except for a few minor exceptions - including the one not so minor thing, that lead to the creation of the alpha red virus - so I would have said they could live to up to 200 years too.
Though I do recall reading (and i'm not sure where) that they could live much longer.
How old do you think Czulkang Lah was? Pushing 200? Tsavong Lah didn't exactly strike me as being too young himself.

yeah exactly. Czulkang, i would imagine, probably was pushing beyond 300 years. although i think someone in the past brought up that perhaps he was much older... 500 yrs. stating that with his enhancements and extra growths he could exceed his regular lifespan.
my brother has my ultimate alien anthology... so it will probably be later before i could post stats on ages.

Indeed! Got arthritis? Old age creeping up on your scarred behind? Then you need augmented armour! 1/10 ex-warmaster's recommend it.
I had a look through the new essential guide to alien species, and a brief flick through my copy of the NJO sourcebook, but neither seems to have anything on the general lifespan of a Yuuzhan Vong. Seems strange that no one thought to furnish this little factoid considering they do for a lot of other species that have played such a prominent role in the SW EU.
