Or better yet, Ingo Dar.

I might try making my own Yuuzhan Vong...although with no articulation and lousy paintjob.

I think they have put it off for far too long, making these figures I mean. Even a Nom Anor in his 'dark disguise' figure would be a nice little addition.

Do post pictures if you do make any customs Kecen. I will actually have some pics to show people soon, of how the experimentation with my YV costume is going happy might try and get those online tonight.

I'm back, and I agree they should make some Yuuzhan Vong action figures.

Actually I wouldn't mind a Nom Anor, considering hes my second favorite Yuuzhan Vong.

Yeah not bad for a non SW fan, not bad at all, I like the dreads *inwardly misses her dreads*

I finally got a move on with the site that I will post my progress on my shaper costume on. I only have a few pics and bits of info at the moment, as most of it was lost when my errr old qahsa decided to die on me last week angry
I will probably set up a proper site when the project is over and done with, but this journal style seems to serve the purpose ideally for now.

http://mezhan-kwaad.livejournal.com/

I have been rather reluctant in my reading of the LOTF series, the lack of Yuuzhan Vong seems to have made me snub it a bit more than I should perhaps, but I have noticed that Karen Traviss above the other two writers has given a nod to the Yuuzhan Vong more than most have in the past.

Also, has anyone gotten a hold of the new YV minis released last week? I was going to see if I could pick up some tomorrow.

funny you should ask... just got my case in today as a matter of fact... and was rewarded and got all four new yuuzhan vong minis. really good sculpts i might add. even if you don't play the game (which i highly recommend), they'll look good on your bookshelf.

edit

just looked at your journal. very good! keep up the work, i'll stay tuned in to your process. my lack of any art skills... sadly... will result my never creating a yuuzhan vong costume. glad to see someone with the skills doing one. keep it up.

Alright. It took a little bit of digging around, but i found it. I don't remember the actual author of this short synopsis, but I personally love it. I've posted this once before... probably about 2-3 years ago on this board... so here it is again for those of you who haven't read it. enjoy. devil

What If...?

Everybody dies.

Some die bravely, some die stupidly. Some simply roll over and die in the nearest ditch. Some don't even realise they're dead.

But everybody dies.

Droma is the first to die, lynched by Peace Brigade protestors as he tries to sneak into the Galactic Alliance residency on Hapes. At the time, it simply seems like an arbitrary tragedy, and the resulting crackdown yields military intelligence which will enable Sien Sov and Traest Kre'frey to roll up the Yuuzhan Vong forces in the Mid Rim--but it means that the vital knowledge that a rogue New Republic Intelligence unit, backed by hard-line Chiss Syndics, is plotting to release Alpha Red, does not reach Cal Omas or the Jedi in time.

Nem Yim is one of the first to die, incinerated by a turbolaser blast from an orbiting Star Defender mere seconds after she has transmitted the genetic code for her RNA-based retrovirus to the Yuuzhan Vong shaper damuteks scattered throughout the galaxy. She dies knowing that her work will infect every native species in the galaxy with the key Yuuzhan Vong DNA-fragment, and that her success will deprive the Jeedai who destroyed all the family she ever knew of their ability to touch the Force. Had she known of Alpha Red's release, it would not have affected her actions in any way.

Grand Admiral Gilad Pellaeon dies in his day cabin aboard Chimaera. Returning to his quarters after the formal signing-ceremony of the treaty which makes the Empire a part of the Galactic Alliance, he sits down to take his boots off, slowly closes his eyes, and does not open them again in this world.

Former Imperial Admiral Jelilla Daala dies on Ylesia, cut down at the head of a peaceful protest against the war when the Peace Brigade troops open fire into the crowd--scared teenagers in jackboots and blast-helmets. All of them will be dead within the week, after Alpha Red and the Vong retrovirus arrive on the system, both brought aboard the same crippled frigate fleeing the disastrous battle at Chandrila.

Luke Skywalker dies like a Jedi Master, weary and wounded--and alone, the last survivor of the commando team sent to stop the Yuuzhan Vong attack on Tatooine. He dies at peace with himself and the Force, not far from Ben Kenobi's old hut in the Jundland Wastes, his life's work done. He dies soon after second sunset, staring into the cloudless night sky, with a smile on his face and a gleam in his eyes as he remembers a seventeen-year-old farmboy who dreamed of nothing more than flying starfighters and winning the hearts of princesses. In the morning, the Tusken Raiders find him, and bury him in the ruins of Old Ben's hut.

Mara Jade Skywalker dies slowly. After her capture by the Yuuzhan Vong during the Alliance's disastrous Rim Offensive, she is brought to Coruscant to be shaped as a trophy. Tortured and transformed in a ten-day ceremony, she is kept alive to serve as the Supreme Overlord's personal battle-standard, a terrible, screaming banner of flayed flesh set on a tall staff shaped from the disarticulated bones of her own skeleton. Having been inocculated against Nem Yim's retrovirus in the hope that the Shapers will finding some way to harness her vast reserves of Force energy, she remains immune to Alpha Red as it sweeps through the cities of Yuuzhan'tar, infecting first the network of bio-systems and buildings, then the low-caste civillians and the servitors, then the courtiers and the warriors, and finally the Supreme Overlord himself. In the end, only she is left alive--though she cannot say how long it took for the Yuuzhan Vong to die, and she quickly forgets how long it has been since the last of them died. Half an hour before her own eventual death, she recovers a strange lucidity, wondering whether or not she is mad, but acutely aware that she has not lost her most basic burning desire--to live. She dies alone, but not angry, reconciled to everything that has happened to her, and aware and alive at the very end.

Supreme Overlord Shimrra dies after sealing himself in the Glory Room, surrounded by the decaying splendour of the trophies of his dead empire. Before the villip choirs fail, the transmissions from his subordinates have ceased, and after the last villips die, he sits slumped in his spiked throne for a long time. Eventually, he strikes up an intermittent conversation with his Blood Banner, the gory flag of living flesh that was once the Jeedai Mara Jade. The conversation becomes a surreal friendship, with Shimrra proclaming himself "the last and greatest of the Yuuzhan Vong," and charging her to mark the moment and manner of his passing. But Mara is eventually unable to remember when he died, and their dialogue drifts into a one-sided conversation with a rotting corpse.

Han Solo and Princess Leia die in a blaze of glory in the War Room on Mon Calamari, on the last day of the five-week Third Siege. Warmaster Nas Choka's savage assault had decimated the High Command and the Senate, and by Day Eighteen, they found themselves Commander-in-Chief and Chief-of-State. Neither was as surprised or overwhelmed by their new responsibilities as they had expected, and they made the decision to strip the defences of Reef Home City to enable General Klivian's Third Fleet to win the battle in high orbit with absolute confidence and conviction. They watch the collapse of the Yuuzhan Vong fleet on the main tactical globe, undeterred by the sight of the worldship New Hope sliding into a bombardment orbit above the capital, and as the world turns to fire around them, they look at each other, smiling, and neither is quite sure which of them it is that whispers "I know" this time.

Colonel Jag Fel dies on the ice-fields of Csilla, where he had been stranded by agents of the rogue Syndics who had released Alpha Red. He dies sitting propped against an empty cargo-pannier, watching the silver sliver of Jaina Solo's X-wing sweeping towards him through the icy sky. She is five minutes too late.

Jaina Solo dies six weeks later, at the controls of a stolen Z-95 headhunter. Already crippled by Alpha Red and the Vong retrovirus, she has lost the Force, her family, and Jag Fel. She dies after a brief firefight with a squadron of ex-New Republic pirates, an anonymous victim of a one-sided skirmish which achieves nothing except to give the dying civilians of the last refugee convoy from Corporate Sector space five more minutes of precious life.

Jacen Solo dies in savage despair, wandering the blood-soaked decks of the plague-stricken refugee ship Yeoman Nightfall as it hurtles towards oblivion. He had used the Force to trick his way aboard, fleeing the plage on Kashyyyk in near panic, but as the light finally dims around him, he realises that even if he was right, having rejected everything he had ever believed in has not made him master of his own destiny. As he dies, he thinks he hears Vergere laughing softly somewhere nearby.

Nom Anor, who had always, somehow, expected that his utter cynicism would ensure that he left the land of the living in a blaze of glory to the adulation of his contemporaries and posterity, dies in his sleep, dreaming dreams of vengance and victory that dissipate as if with the morning light. He is found by his acolytes, and deeply mourned.

Everybody dies.

It is, mercifully, quick. Alpha Red and the retrovirus take a mere fifteen months to sweep through the galaxy, their spread sped by the efficiency of their delivery systems. The last survivors on the last infected worlds die within three years. Every member of every Yuuzhan Vong caste, and every bio-device in their entire technology base dies within the year. By that point, every single Bothan, Rodian and Selonian, every last Chadra-fan and Quarren and Mon Calamari, every Hutt and Twi'lek, is already dead. Corulag and Axilla and Ryloth and Bastion and Bilbringi and Commenor and Hapes and almost twenty million other inhabited worlds are reduced to sterile balls of dirt and decaying organic matter, rashed with the empty, echoing ruins of crumbling spaceports and cities, ringed by slowly spinning satellites and abandoned skyhooks and spacestations trapped in their decaying orbits. Years or decades later, the skyfall of class-one orbitals or the failure of failsafes in power-stations or energy-processing plants will give final, spectacular closure to the biocide of many once-thriving planetary ecosystems.

The trillions of surviving droids and the automated computer systems of galactic civilization continue to operate for several millennia, linked by the shattered web of the hypernet. Within ten years, the medi-droids of the Wathanni Institute have devised an antidote, but the galaxy's best droid brains have already ascertained that Alpha Red and the retrovirus have infected 99.999% of the galaxy's life-bearing planets. The antidote is released anyway, and it is estimated that it will become fully effective in eradicating the plagues within three years. There is some sporadic debate as to the viability of a machine-based society, some efforts are made to repair and replace the damaged and decaying infrastructure of lightspeed communications, and some droid-crewed expeditions are launched to search for "living" planets, but, in the end, the machinery of galactic civilization slowly decays and disappears. Most of the surviving droids find their final purpose in the removal of the traces of technology from the desolate dead worlds of the galaxy, and the re-seeding of empty systems with organic life. A few factions spend millennia in building profoundly complex biospheres, but many more resort to a cheap and basic genetic soup, often spread slowly through the stars by comets and meteorites. But there remains an unspoken rule that they must not callously and crassly create or recreate any sentient species, and the dismantling of "dead" worlds slowly removes the infrastructure needed to retain the remnants of lightspeed technology. One large and late-forming faction, several million strong, recognizes the incipient crisis and revives the Outbound Flight Project, departing the galaxy for deep space. Contact is lost with them after only three centuries. In the end, there remain only few introverted superintelligences growing slowly old on deserted factory-worlds and city-planets, strangely jealous of their privacy and solitude in an uncaring, empty Universe.

Everybody dies.

Everybody except the survivors.

On Kashyyyk, the last of the treetop cities of the Wookiees was destroyed by the plague within six months of its release, and one by one, the great trees themselves began to fall. But the teeming darkness of the Kashyyyk depths is the most hostile environment in the galaxy, the home to many of its most resilient species. In the twelve years before the arrival of the automated seedship carrying the Wathanni Institute antidote, Alpha Red and Nen Yim's retrovirus decimated 73% of the Kashyyyk biosphere. But 27% of the planet's indigenous lifeforms survived, toughened by the sudden awesome violence of natural selection. Many species have been wrested from their environmental niches--hunted become hunters, the lurking behemoths of the root-structure become the parents to sleek, swift species in the trunks and branches--but slowly, the great trees recover, and the few surviving Wookiees return to the treetops of their scarred homeworld, to rebuild their cities and wait in vain for ships, their ritual raiding-trips to the depths redefined by the hunt for high-tech devices buried deep among the roots of the tallest and oldest trees.

At Eclipse Base in the Kessel System, a pre-arraged plan swings into action when the secure hyperlink from Mon Calamari goes dead. Unaware of the release of Alpha Red, Winter Celchu, Corran Horn, and Ben Skywalker go into stasis, leaving See-Threepio, Artoo-Deetoo, and Whistler to guard the base and tend the X-wings, with orders wait for the other survivors of the Jedi Order and the New Republic hierarchy--or their successors--to make contact.

On Tatooine, the Tusken Raiders and the Jawas, with their bio-implant breath filters and their long migratory lives in the sterile desert, prove resilient to the plague for long enough for the Wathanni Institute's antidote to reach the system and save them. It is a close-run thing, and they would not have survived without the tireless assistance of the B'omarr monks, their disembodied brains enclosed in hermetically sealed microenvironments, or the co-operation of half-a-dozen surviving families of moisture farmers, who unite under the leadership of old Huff Darklighter to police the desert edge and keep the skies clear of incoming starships. Over the course of several centuries, a small desert shrine grows up over the grave of Luke Skywalker, eventually becoming the focus of a B'omarr monastery, and, ultimately, the centre of a city, the capital of a great star-spanning republic.

On Nirauan, Major Veg Fel and his detachment of Syndic Mith'raw'nuruodo's Household Phalanx wait in vain for new orders, until it becomes apparent that they have lost contact with Csilla--perhaps forever. Reluctantly, Veg and his sister Zena assumes the titles of Baron and Assistant Syndic, and through monitoring Imperial channels and making use of the peerless data cache assembled by Grand Admiral Thrawn, they are able to synthesise a vaccine for the plague from rare enzymes found in the native plants of Nirauan. They successfuly distribute the vaccine to four nearby systems, but their attempts are hampered by the limitations of their Chiss hyperdrives, and a raid by Ebruchi pirates destroys all but three of their scoutships. They lose hyperdrive capability within three generations, but, over the millennia, their descendants carve a civilization out of the jungle and create a vibrant society, eventually taking to the stars again five thousand years later.

In a hidden chamber far below the crag on which the ancient fortress once known as the Hand of Thrawn still stands, Grand Admiral Thrawn's last clone sleeps on in its Spaarti cylinder. Water damage--a side-effect of Mara Jade and Luke Skywalker's destruction of the primary clone facility--has fried the timer which should have roused him in time to defeat the Yuuzhan Vong, but the sophisticated Imperial monitoring array buried beneath his capsule continues to work, relaying vast reams of data from the hypernet into a flash-printing device, and thus into Thrawn's sleeping brain. The last slender chain of hypercomm nodes linking Nirauan to the wider galaxy survives long enough to be found and restored by the civilization founded by the distant descendants of his Household Phalanx as the spine of their own interplanetary commnet, and so the last Grand Admiral dreams on, smiling as he sleeps, and planning victory after victory on the chessboard of his mind.

And on the world that was once Coruscant, and more recently Yuuzhan'tar, the Shamed Ones emerge, blinking, into the sunlight. Their "defective" DNA--lacking the key genetic fragment of Yuuzhan Vong biotech--is naturally imune to Alpha Red, but it does contain distinctive fragments which Nem Yim's retrovirus was programmed to ignore. The Yuuzhan Vong had planned to use the retrovirus to turn the native species of the new galaxy into malleable raw material for their biotechnological programs, but the leadership had retained an overriding determination to keep their casteless underclass in a status of utter, unshapable subjection--a determination which ultimately saved the lives of the millions of Shamed Ones already settled on their new homeworld. The course to technological civilization is hard and long--so hard, and so long, that the last towers of Coruscant have crumbled to dust or mistaken for the monuments of later eras long before the distant descendants of the Shamed Ones build their first interplanetary ships--but their tribes and kingdoms and empires are sustained through the hardest epochs of their history by the legend of the Jedi. Over time, the story of the fall of the Yuuzhan Vong empire, the story of Ganner Rhysode, Anakin Solo, Jagged Fel, and Nom Anor, loses popularity in the face of the legend of Luke Skywalker and his sister Leia, their father Anakin, and the Jedi Yoda and Ben Kenobi. In the year Fifteen Twenty-Nine of the Calendar of Akron, the city-tyrant Jaxos, a man with grand ambitions, codifies the legend of the Son of Suns in a great text known as the Journal of the Whills.

Thanks JHC grin
And good news on the minis too, can't seem to get ahold of them here yet, only the old ones, so a friend is sending me some over when he next goes into town.

Brilliant fic there too, I remember reading this a while ago, very nicely written and interesting outcome with the whole "everybody dies" theme, i'd post my Yuuzhie fics here, but some are a bit on the lengthy side - however, I am almost done editing one about exactly HOW Nom Anor survives and goes on to plot another day devil

I seem to love the epic fics where thousands of years pass and everybody dies. I ought to write one myself...make time, make time.

I'm in the process of writing my own, OC-oriented mushfic (because there's not enough mush involving Yuuzhan Vong characters).

Hmm, Yuuzhan Vong don't really strike me as the mushy kind, not in the traditional sense of the word anyway. Still, i'd like to read that when you're done with it.

I am hoping to get on with a bit more of that costume tomorrow, so a blog update will happen soon-ish. In the meanwhile, I have sketched this today, to go with a fic i'm writing, enjoy.
