The Force Unleashed 2008 Mega Event

I brought it up at a meeting, and we talked about it a lot more at collectors club last night. 2007 was a boring year for Star Wars. However, 2008 is chocked full of things to do! First up is the release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. Lucasfilm has called this an event like the prequels and that we will see "Everything but the movie."
This is a good time to start planning. While we can't approach any businesses yet or set any firm plans this early in the game, we can get some ideas on the table and get a feel for what everyone would like to do for the mega event.
Just like if there was a movie, there will be a line of action figures, multiple books, comics, and of course the video game. Even if you don't like video games, the books and comics are a must read because they are rumored to directly impact the cannon and give insight into the mind of the Dark Lord. If you can't read, the game will be huge because of its technological features and storyline that you can control. Even if you just like art, the "Art of Unleashed" book might be of interest.
Do we want to do a midnight release party? Would we be interested in a charity tie in? Are we just going to buy the game and run home to see who can beat it the fastest?! 
Since this most likely falls in the middle of the week, I am hoping that the release will coincide with Spring Break so I will have some options as to where I will celebrate the release.

I agree. The Star Destroyer from episode III is sweet. Sometimes, it has a battle with my Galactica on my bookself.
I want some Legacy Comic Two Packs, though.

We could check with the library and see if they could plan a Star Wars screening (or 6) around the release date.

Do you think they would like to do an exhibit or display or something too? I kinda envision something that promotes reading for both Adults and Kids, and would show off the Star Wars selection the library has. I like the idea of a screening, but I don't want to stretch ourselves too thin when it comes to appearances and stuff.
Maybe like a display in a few of the libraries with pictures and stuff, with a title like "Reading Unleashed." If we can get something going now, they could even order a few copies of the new unleashed books in time to be in circulation soon after the launch. Maybe they would chip in to get some cheap bookmarks made with the "Reading Unleashed" logo to give to people. We could do up some artwork that looks like the Force Unleashed logo.
Just a thought.

That display sounds like a wonderful idea.
They could still do a screening(s), but we wouldn't have to come out in force/in costume.
In fact - maybe along with the displays (did I mention I think that's a wonderful idea?) they could start the screenings earlier in the year and finish off just before the book/game comes out.

The first bit of Unleashed merchandise has shown up on the web. Looks like they didn't want to push back the latest minis expansion even though it includes unleashed characters. Check it out

The next bit of merchandise is shown on Rebelscum. Only small pictures for now, but the Force Unleashed lightsaber looks pretty cool. I wonder what the color changing blade means to the story?

Did anyone get a chance to see the new stuff on Rebelsum about the Force Unleahsed? It looks like Hasbro brought out some of their line that will hit shelves in February to the Star Wars Fan Days.
Maybe the coolest things were the Unleashed Battle packs. I've never contemplated buying these things before, but the packaging on Rebelscum shows some really cool new troopers with colors.
Did I hear correctly (maybe on the Force Cast) that there would be two waves of Force Unleashed figures next year?

If it wasn't for the Wii, Force Unleashed would be out right now. Just imagine, we could all be playing as a super powerful force wielding emo kid beating up on Imperials...
Since we have to wait until March, I picked up one box of the new minis that came out. I wouldn't know how to play the game if my life depended on it, but the minis are still cool. I was only hoping to get some of the new characters. I guess I got lucky, because I pulled two of the new Stormtrooper types.
The first was in EVO Trooper and the other a Raxus Prime Trooper.
They make me think that a classic stormie made it with a clone or something. The EVO trooper has a backpack similar to that of a Republic Commando.

That Raxus Prime trooper is kinda cool.
The EVO trooper resembles a Hoth storm trooper, IMO.

I'm looking forward to this. Not really the game. My video game skills never advanced much beyond Joust or Asteroids.
But, this will be cool. Sort of like Shadow's of the Empire.
On another note, an actual Star Wars topic that we can get excited about. I was beginning to wonder if people had forgotten about that nice galaxy far, far away.....

I think LFL could be doing a better job about pumping up the hype on a number of their products. There have been books released that almost no one even knew about, and we are getting so little info on TFU.
For me, the way to stay excited about Star Wars is through different fan communities. I've been listening to the SW Action News podcast regularly, and have been staying up on the Prop/Costuming world more.
On the collecting front of the game:
Looks like we will see some color-coded Troopers for the game though.
