FalconFan posted: Now wick, you have to pick out a nice 80s disco tune for us all to do the "Travolta pose" to--I'll start the mirror-ball!
Oh man... the only thing I really remember about the eighties was the cartoons. I don't think anyone wants to dance to the Transformers theme song. I will humbly transfer my DJ duties to anyone more knowledgable...
Until then, you'll all have to suffer!
You got the touch
You got the power

Padme
I think what really makes Padme look like her great-grandmother-Padme, is the eyebrows, so you were very succesful in blending in those inherited physical traits. The pencil strokes to show the patchwork in her robe is very pleasing, but you already know how much I enjoy that. You do so well at drawing layered wrapped robes.
Arcas, "Children of the Force"
Gorgeous detail to the hair! It's like I can see every single strand! I really dig the nice solid black achieved in the garment under his robe, making the stark whine shine on his robe even more bright. To me, he looks like he could be of or somehow affiliated with royalty.
I must admit, I also found the comment of the 80's pompadour to be hilarious. It's awesome Deb, awesome to the Max.

Thanks tons for all the comments on the latest stuff, everyone! You're all "the best!!"
Idrelle--LOL at the "feedback junkie" comment! Me, too, I'm sorry to say (although, thanks to all the kind and gentle critiques I've received here in this forum, I also find myself looking forward to them--it's just so critical to motivation, for me anyway!)!
I've started looking for pics that might do for Leto--haven't really begun the drawing yet--and we're looking forward to your new wallpaper!
Aurelia--Thank you so very much--for the comments about Arcas' hair, and for all the wonderful WIP examples of such that you've provided for us to learn from! I must say--I really study a lot in your thread: staring at the expert use of tones and lines, of shading and highlights (Obi Wan's portrait makes me want to cry, it's so good!). I'm learning a lot from you, in however a passive way, and I'm very grateful! Your work is what I aspire to, in realism and in beauty--you are the Master of Graphite!
Hi oldj! Thank you for commenting, and for the return visit! Great stuff in your latest post in your own thread, btw!!
Mme. Moderator--I'm so glad you're back with us here, Han!! We all missed you!!!
I figured you'd like "Mara-As-Mom:" it's a side of Ms. Jade-Skywalker that we just haven't seen, outside of the infrequent and usually-brief descriptions of such in the novels. I just couldn't imagine her not interacting this way with her precious son--she's fought so long and hard to keep him safe, from his conception to "the present," I just know she loves him very dearly! And playing with children is one of the ways that parents show this love. I'm glad you liked the portrayal--I really wasn't sure how it would go over, to tell the truth, lol!
And the fan fic characters: creative use of reference photos!
Briman--You're very welcome! It's been great fun, bringing your characters out on paper!
LordNeo--I'm hard at work on your request right now, and I want to say again how sorry I am that your brother is ill--I'll pray for his speedy recovery, and for your entire family (especially you!). Blessings.
Hi Chilla! Thanks for having a look! Will we be seeing something new in your thread soon? Always looking forward to new posts!
wicktone-- Sorry! But what the heck: let's use the Transformer's theme! I loved the cartoons in the 80s too!
Hey Your_Worshipfulness!! LOL, yeah, we already had a great laugh over the "80s hair!" Like I said, all I saw when I found the photo to use was the "long, black hair"--the retro style didn't even register, lol! I'm glad you liked his hair (it really took a long time!)! And the darker tones: I'm really trying to get more "brave" with pencil pressure, to get to some of the darker tones that were suggested to me a while back. I'm always terrified of ruining a picture (once that black graphite is down, it's almost impossible to take it back up cleanly...), but I think it really does help with contrast (it's actually still too light on the faces--still cowardly there!--but it's getting easier to try it on the clothes, anyway!).
And I'm glad that there's a "passing resemblence" to Padme Amidala in her great-granddaughter. The author requested that she look like AOTC Padme, and I used a screen still for a rough reference (for the pose, face and shading), but I tried to give her more of a face of her own, while still incorporating some of Natalie's facial characteristics. Sort of like Corellian_Rogue did with her portrait of Ben Skywalker--the lineage there is beautifully suggested! Thanks again for the wonderful comments, Suz!
There's more to come--but as always, it takes time! Thanks for all the visits and comments--it really gives me a "warm and fuzzy!"

I have a lot to catch up with in here! Sorry my comments have been so sporadic.
Deb, your Mara as Mom blew me away! It's just fantastic in the way it captures such a sweet moment. Artistically it is so well crafted, the features on Mara and baby Ben, the details in everyone's clothing. Mara looks beautiful in your depiction of her. I really really like this piece a lot.
Padmé Skywalker is wonderful too. It absolutely looks like a piece of your artwork. She does resemble Padmé, I think you did a great job making her into a believable looking relative. But more than that, I just like how this piece looks like your style. If I had seen it without knowing who had drawn it I would have immediately known it was your's. I love that!
I really see how your talent is evolving and growing. It's a joy to witness.

Chilla--I've seen them now--sorry I missed them when you posted them initially! I like them!
Hello Obi-Dawn! Thanks so much for your sweet words! I'm so glad you liked "Mara-As-Mom" (she was a bigger hit than I expected, to be honest--I wasn't sure how that sort of view of her would "go over!")! I just love the idea of her "getting into" being Ben's mom--it's just such an illustration of how she's matured, grown and changed since her introduction as a character.
I have "a style...?" And you can recognize it...? again!! You're so sweet to say so! And not to worry about being "sporadic:" I think we're all that way, particularly when things get really busy (read that as DRL...). It's always such a treat to read your observations/suggestions/comments--thanks so much! Anything new coming to your thread any time soon...? More work with the Prismacolors (looks at her own with a sheepish, guilty glance...)? Thank you again for the visit and the kind words!
I'm almost done with yet another character request, and may be able to get it up tonight or tomorrow. We'll see!

Yes, you most certainly have what I would consider a defined 'style' of you own. I'm not sure if I can verbalize what it is, but I certainly recognize your work as being your's. There's a strength in the way you depict facial shapes and features that's unique to you. The awesome thing about this 'strength' is that I always find so much softness in it at the same time. And, all the while, you're able to capture likenesses very well.
I'm sure that made zero sense but I hope you know it's all meant as a huge compliment. I think being able to define one's own style, whether consciously or not, is a fantastic thing. It makes your work stand out in good ways.
To answer your other question, I have been working on some graphite portraits of friends in their SW costumes. I haven't told them I'm doing it. I figure if they turn out well I can give them as gifts. Plus, I think I got tired of drawing Natalie Portman's face! LOL! I needed some new faces to draw and they seemed like a great inspiration. I would feel weird about posting them in my thread without their permission though, since it's their face's. But if you want to see the one I'm working on, I'd be happy to e-mail it to you. I'd love your feedback!

You're A/T picture is absolutely wonderful! All of them are, really, but I like that one best. I knew they looked good together! Mara-as-Mom almost broke my heart. (I'm still reading TJK, so I dunno what's gonna happen to anybody yet.)

Greetings, DarthQuellonis, and thank you for dropping in and leaving a comment!
Obi-Dawn--Oh, yes-yes-yes!! I'd love to see your portraits of your friends (and gosh, they wouldn't mind you sharing the artwork you did of them...would they? I would think they'd be knocked-out-glad have their personal portraits posted in the Art Forum!)!! I just adored the one that gatodama showed us, of the trooper-uniformed fan that she did--it was just great--so I think it'd be wonderful to see your friends--especially in their costumes!
And thank you again for the sweet words concerning "style"--I guess it's a concept that has sort of eluded me, in terms of a "definition," particularly when it comes to the sort of thing I do (illustrative portraiture...I think... ). It's nice to know that someone can identify my work, anyway!
I'm PMing my e-mail, coz I'd love to see your portraits!!
Hello Handmaiden_Rabe! You made it all the way back to Anakin/Tahiri??!! Wow--you prowled back there a loooonnng way--and I thank you for that! Don't read too much into "Mara-As-Mom"--it's not illustrative of future events (and Luke is actually supposed to be there--just sort of "eavesdropping" on them from a distance! )! It was just meant as a "mom moment" for Mara with Ben, and Luke just sort of happens upon them and observes them together! Hope the "broken heart" didn't last too long!
I may be a bit "tied up" over the next week or so with DRL (and I mean that in the least happy way....sigh...). So thanks to any and all that stop in--I do appreciate it very much!

I really like Mara as Mom. Including Luke, as you said, helps balance the piece, but I think the way you have Mara framing Ben is what gives it its maternal warmth. Wonderful job!

Hey Darth_Snuggle!! Where have you been keeping yourself? I would love to see something new in your thread soon! Thanks for having a look at "Mara-As-Mom"--I had been sitting on that reference pic for a long time, and was really attracted to the "warmth" you describe (it was right there in the photo!)--it just shouted Mara and Ben to me, so I had to take a stab at it! Thanks for the visit and the comments!
This is another request drawing which is still in the "approval" stage--I was pretty pleased with how it turned out, tho, so wanted to drop it in here before taking off to deal with DRL for a while! Thanks to all who drop in and leave notes--if I can't get back soon, please know that I appreciate all of your visits and replies!

Whoa! This guy is hypnotizing!
You captured the light source so well in this. The lights and the shadows are super fantastic, especially the way his hands are lit. Wow.
And the detail on his hair...amazing. His braids look real. You did great!
