That's one way to interpret it, I suppose--but I distinctly recall seeing some awesome PS pieces of Wookiees in barber shops and Imperial shuttles in mall parking lots! To me, that's as creative as drawing something on a blank piece of paper! I'll PM those online reference guide links to you, and then recommend a couple of inexpensive books for you, too. I hope they'll help. In the meantime, keep doing what you already know how to do, and it'll keep those creative "juices" flowing!

Thank you very much FalconFan...
I consider what you said more picture manipulation than creating an image, and that kind of thing I can do fairly well over all...

Hello--first time I've been here to the cantina
Illustrator, Poser, Bryce, Corel-- I really need to get in the know of these programs. I have heard of PhotoShop and have used it before, maybe even just once. I have Microsoft Publishing Platinum that I really like, but I have never even tried a tablet/stylus program. I think I'm going to have to get to a Best Buy and poke around some of these programs.

Hi everyone!
I have a question for you all - do you know of anywhere online where I can get hi-res photos from STAR WARS? Doesn't mattter if it's OT or PT related - I'm now addicted to only using hi-res pics in my artwork and since most of my SW photos archives are low-res, I'd like some hi-res stuff so I can get back into doing SW art again.
Thanks!
Erika

I'm not sure if this will help, but they have some hi-res images at this site. But other than that, I haven't been able to find a place that has good hi-res SW images. Maybe someone else will be able to come in and provide another.

Hi everyone; first time here.
I'm still quite new to drawing, so I'm still trying out everything within reason (from charcoals and pencils to... ink drawings done with sharpened chopsticks! to digital media), but I find myself leaning in the direction of digital arts. Mostly because I'm a horrible cheapskate who doesn't want to spend ghastly sums of money on paper/pens/colours (and I really don't know how to handle traditional paints/crayons anyway), but also because I'm verging on obsessive, and it's nice to know that it's not the end of the world when your pen accidentally slips. (Thank the Force for CTRL+Z). I mainly use colour pencils for my initial sketch, an 0.5mm mechanical pencil for the outline, and Corel PhotoPaint for colours.

Hi everyone! I love the drawing of clonetrooper (the one in green) at the right of the banner of this forum (maybe you don't see it if you don't have a large screen). I'd like to know who is the author and where is the full drawing? because I find it amazing!

Welcome to Fan Art everyone! It's great to see a lot of new faces!
DarthFar, it's wonderful that you're willing to try out new techniques and you're experimenting at this point. That really helps to pick out the right niche for you. As for the digital arts being less expensive than traditional - I think that's all a matter of perception. Since starting my junior year of art school this past Fall, I've spent close to $1000 if not more in digital "art supplies." This includes all programs(PS, Illustrator, In Design, etc) and paper, ink cartridges, wacom tablet - stuff like that. As you can see, it can all add up very similarly to traditional art supplies. I'm in no way trying to discourage you from the digital media, I'm just laying out some of the facts concerning both areas.
In any case, good luck with whatever you decide on!

Hi, first time here. I am working mostly with oil-colours on hardboard and sometimes watercolor or pencils. My oilpaintings vary in size from 10 - 20 cm to large ones of 30 by 80 cm. I put them on my website by making digital pictures or scanning them.

$1000 in digital supplies? Ai caramba! I'd become so comfortable with the Corel PhotoPaint interface (it came with my old computer, and I used that to make forum avatars and signatures for *years*) that making the transition from using the programme to crop pictures and adjust transparencies/draw lines to using it as a painting programme wasn't all too hard, because I already knew where the important tools were. Since then I've tried out Photoshop and Corel Painter elements - both came with my Wacom Graphire 4 - but I found them to be less user-friendly, and Painter has more stuff than I could ever use! So unless I get to be really, really good like Linda Bergkvist anytime in my life (haha), I'll probably hold on to my money and stick to what I have.
I'd very much like to try out watercolours and oils (hard not to feel tempted, when you see what people can do with the medium), but I think it would be a good idea to find an adult art school first, LOL.

Hey, everybody! Another first-timer here... (<-- is that how it's supposed to be written?)
My favourite medium is definately pencils. Usually just graphite but every now and then I like spicing the pieces up with aquarel colour pencils, too. I'm still very much of a learner and try to get better by drawing copies of other pictures, I way I've been using since I could hold up a pencil.
I also like doing digital art, though what I've done this far has been mostly picture manipulation instead of painting original pieces. I have Paint Shop Pro 8, which I love but don't know thoroughly yet, since it seems to have an endless list of tools... Also it would be helpfull to hear from other digital artists of their methods and which tools they use. Does anyone know of a good tutorial page for that?

hey, first-timer here, too. , I am very new to the digital media. i know almost nothing. i have photoshop and so far i've learned basically how to use the filters, color/light balance, some of the tools (very fond of the blur tool), etc. i really want to get into illustrator but it looks so intimidating, i wouldn't know where to start. my question is, are there any good tutorials outhere or out there? somebody have a link? thanks a bunch.

Yea, it's literally insane. Our school is basing half of their curriculum around the digital media and has made it a requirement for all CA students fo have a laptop computer equipped with the Adobe Suite and a few other programs. The sad thing about this is, I have no intentions of working digitally once I graduate. But I digress. It's amazing what you are able to do with the Corel programs. Your work is really gorgeous!

I love oil paints. They may be a bit more messy than other traditional paints, but they are so much easier to work with. Once you pick up oils, you won't want to switch back to anything else.
And welcome to both Minela and Aleria! It's great to have both of you!
You both asked about digital tutorials and there's no better place to ask than in the Official Tools and Techniques thread here on the boards.

I followed the thread index so thats how I arrived here as I thought this would be a suitable place to ask.
Basically I am starting a vintage unproduced micro collection project which if it went into production would have came issued with a backdrop that slots into the back of the playset.
Reason why I am here is because I am wondering what sort of card or paper would be suitable for such a job along what would be recommendable in regards to coloura to achieve the comic book look so to speak.
