ahoy there,x
i got some lovely new hardbound sketch books the other day...
i'm tired of starting a piece and not liking it to only toss it in the bin,
this way i can't throw anything away without ruining the sketchbook.
cunning,see?
doing a fancy attack of the clones piece, right now...

That does sound like a good idea. The only bad thing about it would be scanning the picture.

To be completely honest, I can't stand the hard-bound sketchbooks. I made the mistake of buying one for this semester and I have it completely destroyed already. With my assignments, I like to tear out the pages, use tracing paper and make photocopies to come to my final sketch. I didn't realize how much of a hassle it was gonna be until it was too late. My sketchbook is now a victim of an exact-o knife.

Sorry for not being around lately, everyone.
For the past week, I've been working on a major assignment due tomorrow for my Illustration Studio that's been eating up all of my time. I finally got the thing done tonight and I can now breath a huge sigh of relief. You should be seeing me around more now that I have free time again.

I still haven't found my pencil case, I'm thinking I'll never get it back now.

Huh, that's really weird, moosemousse. I hope things turn around and you're able to find it real soon.

try a colour scan. In my case it worked and you can see it in my Obi and Padme drawings

Hi Moosemousse, and everybody else!
I tend to have the same problem with my sketches, as some have commented in the past of them being really light. With my first drawing class that I've taken this semester I think I have tried the teachers patience as he has had to drill into me to use darker pencil's to make the images pop more. And reportably so he can see something on the page.
Another idea is you could increase the contrast ratio of the scanner you are using and see if that will help, and possibly increase shadding two to four notches above normal. That is what I did with all of my currently posted pics, but it takes about five to ten scans to figure out the right mixture to best bring out your work more and some tweaking further down the road but it does help.

I have no idea where I lost it. I've checked everywhere and it's been nowhere.

Even though I work in black and white?

I tend to get them to look OK on paper but they never seem to scan well, even with lots of level tweaking.

Sorry, I seemed to miss the issue about the scanner the last time around.
The first thing that popped into my mind was to mess with the level settings in PS(if you have it), but it looks like you already tried that without any luck. I had the same problem not too long ago and luckily, I had limited to no shading on the paper(it was just the line drawing) so I just carefully went over the whole thing with a softer pencil(4B). That fixed the problem right up and I ended up with a clear scan.

Let me know how that works out for you.
With December on the way, I plan to start up the artist of the month feature. Things have been slowing down around here lately and I believe now would be the time to introduce it. Hopefully we can get more people interested through this. I've been thinking a lot about this and the reason I've been procrastinating on starting it is simply because I don't know which questions to poise. So, instead of holding the interview beforehand, would it all work out for you to pick an artist at random, start the thread and then have people of the community ask questions as the discussion moves along. And then maybe as an opening post, there will be a short bio about the artist and a link to their work. What does everyone think about that?

Sounds great, Han
I've been spending more time on deviantArt than here recently, but I'm still around... anyone else find the same thing?

I haven't done anything in months, so I don't go there unless someone links to works there.
Oh, and btw, ShrunkenJedi, your link is currently 'devan tart', you might want to change it to http://shrunkenjedi.deviantart.com/
Edit: oh, and I've just realised I have to find the money to buy new pencils after they went missing with my pencil case.

Thanks for that, moosemousse. I should've checked it.
And good luck with the pencils
