Yes, ditto. And again, excellent work. I especially like the orange one.

The highlights on the skin looks much better with "Grape" and "Orange," Giolon--much more realistic. I think getting the skin to look "wet" in these programs will require a lot of tiny tweaking (the patches of moisture, the tiny rivulets of water draining over curves, etc.), but the way the skin looks in general is much less artificial now--well done with that! With "Orange," the way the water meets the sand is rather "stiff:" water usually has a variable boundary where it meets the land, whether it's an inland body of water or an ocean, and often meets the land in varying depths, from very thin to the "thicker" waves that wash in. If you look at some landscape photographs of shorelines I think you'll see what I'm referring to (not the "crashing wave" type of landscapes, of course, but the soft "lapping" shore scenes, which is what you have here). Also, with the light coming from the direction you have it, her head would be shadowing the area in the crook of her left arm, rather than having the sand unshadowed there. And as far as your horizon goes, just soften that differentiation in the colors layered there: a natural horizon, particularly one seen over an expanse of ocean like this, tends to be rather hazy anyway--the water vapor in the air just above the actual ocean "blurs" the "hard" horizon at a distance--again, take a look at some ocean landscape photos to see this effect. A nice job incorporating the suggestions made on the previous series--and I had to laugh at the "Froot Loops" comment! LOL! wink Very pretty!

Thank you Veers and KoATAT!

FF: Thank you for the feedback! I'm glad you think my wet look is improved! Regarding, the water, I'm hoping to get better with customizing terrain to do just the type of thing I believe you're talking about. happy As for the shadow, it's actually correct. The sunlight is coming from up and to the right a little bit behind the camera. They are done automatically by "ray tracing." If you don't know what that means, it's basically a simulation of the light rays shooting out from the light source, and anything behind the first thing it hits is in shadow. There's also options for reflectivity of surfaces, refraction, transparency, etc. That's how I make water! One nice thing about rendering is I can move the sun wherever I want it to be until the shadows fall "just right"! Unfortunately, Vue goes so crazy with its realism that moving the sun affects, well, everything including the color of the sky (and thus the reflective color of the water)! I'm sure there are ways to turn that off or tweak it, but I'm just barely diving in to this program so it's going to take me a bit to figure it all out!

Great job. I like the last two the best. The first group you made had an almost plastic look to the skin. The last two looked more skin-like. I agree with Falcon fan though that if you can draw in drops of moisture dripping down the skin it will add realism.

I hate saying anything critical because I know how extremely hard it is to render realistic figures. I think most people think you just upload stuff and push a button. They don't realize it may take hours to get the skin texture, pose and lightning just right. I know I don't have the patience to do what you are doing.

Keep up the great work! Now you need to make me a neekid Luke. tongue

Thank you, AG! Constructive feedback is what makes us become better! I know most around here don't realize what goes into one of these, but that's ok. As long as there are still people who like them and people who can offer me feedback over here, I'll still be posting them. happy

Thanks everyone!

P.S. Neekid Luke will occur right around the time Episode VII comes out. wink

Sorry, no banana cheesecake at this time. But who knows what the future holds.

Also, this isn't a new format. This is what happens when TFN is having problems. They turn off the theme management or something. We're lucky the boards are even accessible! The last time this happened there was virtually no access to them for like a week!

Wow the two new ones are MUUUCH better than the others. They are far more realistic. I like the backgrouds better on the last two as well!
Wow you seem to be getting the hang of VUE pretty quick! Very cool!

The skin is definitely looking better on these new ones Giolon05! Adding those droplets/rivulets of water would probably be quite time-consuming but would add greatly to the effect you're going for.

Thank you for the feedback Darth_Snuggle and Nidrail! Your comments almost make me want to go back and re-do the first three, but alas, so many ideas and so little time!

Update 28:

Another non-SW render today, I have the third in what has become my series of bringing my 5 ladies over into the fantasy world. I worked a lot on this one, and it has some interesting techniques I thought I'd share. First the image, Daru as The Sorceress:

Full Image

You may notice that the image is now hosted in my own gallery. If you would like to download the high resolution version of the image, simply register at my gallery. It's quick and painless and will allow you access to all future works as well. I promise there won't be any spam sent your way.

So dipping into AG88's realm of "behind-the-scenes", here's a little about the process: As you've seen in my "Enjoy the Vue" series, Vue can make great outdoor scenes, but it is very tough to get skin to light properly and appear realistic. Poser, on the other hand, does great skin but it chokes on high polygon counts and large numbers of textures. Well, I figured out a way that appears to get best of both worlds.

First I set up Daru and the steps in Poser and rendered them over black like this:

Then, I load up Vue, take that render and apply it as a texture to a rectangle polygon with the black areas around the edges set to be transparent. I then set up the camera angle and lighting in Vue to match that of the original render and orient the textured rectangle so that it directly faces the camera. I can now put just about anything in the scene I want. In this case, it's the foliage. The nice thing is that you can get the effect of the figure actually being in the grass (see her foot stepping into it?)

However, because the figure is not actually there, it's merely a textured rectangle, 3d objects are prone to poking through it, so I had to render one version with grass and one version without so that I could get rid of any places where grass pokes through her foot or through solid stone.

So, is this sort of "behind the scenes" something you'd like to see more of when applicable or does it just ruin the magic for you? I look forward to hearing everyone's feedback on both the image and the the BTS look.

Very nice, Giolon05. I have to check out Vue, although, I have been trying to get more into painting than rendering.

That is very interesting on how you did that. Great job. I was working with poser last night and I went into the hair room and I was shocked that the room looked different to me. A lot of things with poser looks different now that I got a more powerful computer. I have a sneaky suspicion that many aspects of the program were not working for me when I had my 256 ram computer.

I actually figured out how to move hair around. So I spent a couple hours morphing a Mara Jade face and working with hair. It was a lot of fun. And it is so much less frustrating not having to wait an hour for a picture to be rendered. happy

Anyway, great job with your fantasy picture. It is very realistic looking!
