It's hard to believe, but it's been a year already since I've been promoted to mod for the Fan Art forum. It's been a fun year working with all of you and I figured it was time to conduct a survey on how you think the forum is being run and how I am as a mod in general.
Please share your thoughts on how you think I'm doing so far. What am I doing wrong? What am I doing right? What changes would you like to see or what would you be doing differently? Also, don't feel limited to just me. Look at the Fan Art forum as a whole and express your comments on what could be changed, what works great, what doesn't, etc. Please post your comments in this thread or if you feel uncomfortable expressing them here, send them to me via PM.
This thread will remain stickied until January 14th. But you are still free to post your comments after that date.

I've only been here maybe a month and as far as I've seen things look good around here! There's no trolling and it seems to be a very mature bunch all around. I like it a lot. I would like to see more constructive feedback being tossed around (as opposed to the none that is all too common I'm finding), but I don't think there's much you can do about that personally.
All-in-all, I think this is one of the better managed message boards that I visit.

When someone has been bagged out, you've swooped in so quickly to remove the post and warn the offender that many people didn't know what was said so that brilliant to me. No one needs to be reading terrible, hurtful comments, especially about their art which is so personal and to many a self expression.
Keep on going HanSolo29 and doing the great job you have been. I know it musn't be easy with all your course work you have been swamped with but here's just to let you know you're doing great!

Well, you haven't banned me yet for making too many nekkid Luke drawings... so I am happy. 
Seriously, I think this forum is well run. You seem to be on top of things. I have seen a few flamers and spammers on various threads and you usually put a stop to it either immediately or within a few hours of it being posted. As Corellian Rogue pointed out, usually most improper comments are deleted before anybody had a chance to see them (which sometimes drives me crazy, I am like, "What was said to tick off HS29 so much?!?"  )
Overall, I think you have ensured that the fanart forum is a nice place to visit and post. I never hear anybody saying, "I am scared to go to that forum" -- unlike Lit or The Senate  .
Keep up the good work!

I really appreciate the feedback, guys! Please keep it coming.
Just a note that I wanted to throw out there. I want to be honest with all of you and personally, I feel that I have been lacking in my presence in this forum since school began. I know I haven't been present in a lot of art threads like I used to and I apologize for that. I'm working on trying to solve that problem now that the semester is over with. I'll be around more and I can be more interactive with all of you. Once again, I apologize for the past couple of months while I was busy with school.
I also want to bring up the subject of the forum as a whole - do you think anything could be run differently? Anything you think should be added, taken away?

The request thread... that is one thing that I think should be checked on every once in a while to see if the volunteers are still actively participating. There are some people on the list that I know are not taking any more requests, like Wicktone. Then some of them I checked their sample links and the links are bad. Some people I don't recognize and I wonder if they are still posting on TFN.
I noticed you had mentioned in the Request Thread that previously people used to just post their request directly in that thread before you changed to the current system. I was wondering why the change was made? I would think it wouldn't be too bad to have a direct request thread. And the current thread you have can be called "The Volunteer" thread. So maybe a person looking for an artist could make a general request in the request thread and if that doesn't work, maybe they could check through the volunteers and make direct request to a specific artist.
Like I said, I am not sure why the system was changed. It could be that making the request thread like I suggested might be a royal pain in the butt.
Anyway, that is my two cents.

I was thinking it was time to revise the request thread once again. I have noticed that some of the people on the list have been inactive. I think what I may do is send out PMs to each of the people listed asking them if they still wish to fill requests. If they don't respond in about a week or if they are no longer interested, they will be removed.
Regarding the change in the request thread - the main reason was that requests just weren't getting filled. They would sit idle for months in the old thread without even a bite. By listing the artists that are interested in filling requests, we figured it would be more efficient in getting them completed. Afterall, we are no bringing the requests directly to the artists instead of having the artists come to the thread. The other reason, I have to admit, is that it was a pain to keep up to date. But that isn't really an issue - just plain laziness.
Now, I'd be willing to once again reform the request system if you all think it is needed.

I completely see where you're coming from. The 'volunteer' process has its pros, but then again, we have the problem you pointed out - artists taking on requests they otherwise would never do. I know from experience that can be a real burden. That's where I liked the old way better, but you had to drag people in by their ankles to get them to do something. So, yea...I think this process could work out. Before starting anything new, I want to go through the current list in the request thread and see who is still interested in participating.

I think that's the most asked question I get over PM. I do have the answer to this posted in the "Welcome thread" but you know how that is with people actually taking the time to read the stickies. Or maybe they just can't find the information among the other stuff listed. I don't really know why it's bypassed, but I think a FAQ thread would be very beneficial. Maybe more people will actually take the time to read the thread if all the answers to their questions will be right there for them.

***Looks through the Welcome thread***  Oh yeah, there it is. I think that Imageshack link is wrong. That is Imageshack.com and I think the correct link is http://www.imageshack.us/ . When I went to the Imageshack link provided in the welcome thread the first thing I saw was FREE PORN.
I do have a suggestion. Maybe have a bold title saying HOW TO POST A PICTURE on the top just in case there are people like me who are computer idiots and didn't know what the term image hosting meant.

Thanks for pointing that out! I'm definitely going in there and changing that now.
Anyway, I think changing the heading could help out immensely. I know what you mean by people not understanding what "image hosting" means. I don't think there will be any arguments with me changing that.
