Another wonderful capture, Mitth! I agree with the comments so far on the detailing and shading--it's looking great. Be careful with the "sideways skewing," as I call it: try looking at the piece in a mirror as you work, especially in the early stages, to check for skewing, either horizontal or vertical. With Master Piel, his head has a slight "lean" to the right of the page (ie., features don't line up vertically). By doing the checks in the early stages of a piece (in the rough sketch stage), you can catch little errors like this before getting all the shading done and then finding it (I speak from much experience in this, believe me! lol! ). Can't wait to see that Ishi Tib!

Glad you like it Vandalier!
Welcome Barriss_Coffee, amazing the ears were one of the easier things about him, with all the scarring and stuff his face was the more difficult to succeed in.
Hi FF! This is actually my second attempt to draw him right, so I ended up just saying forget it! when I noticed that he was scewed when I was over halfway done . No way I was going to clean that mess up again , atleast it was smaller than before though
Oh and by the way the Ishi Tib least developed of four that I'm currenty working on for relaxation during college so it might be awhile yet, much sooner is some miner from EP1.

Heya Mitth!
You've got a good likeness on Piell going there. I never really liked that character. I felt he was too similar looking to Yoda (plus a scar), you did a good job capturing his...sour face.

Sideways skewing...that's a good name for it. The use of the mirror idea that FF suggested is a good one, and if you choose to follow it - Just be sure that you do it in the early stages as she said, or it will only serve to aggravate you in the end.
Even Piel is very well done - you've captured the haggard look, and the hardened expresssion that his character possesses, imo. I think it's really cool that you added in his name in aurabesh too. It reminds me of concept artwork with it displayed there - like I'd find this image in a SW encyclopedia or some such.

Yeah I don't really like him that much either Giolon05, Which is the reason I used him. Well you'll find out the reason in a week or two. I just read Cloak of Deception and from it it's not only his face that's sour
Welcome once more Your_Worshipfulness, *Begins fanfair for the royal*
I'm glad you liked it, it was really difficult in some parts like having the lighting change from normal to shadow was hard, I used five or six different shades in a space no wider than an inch.
But Anywhooo, I actually have tried the mirror and it's working to some degree
Well I hope you all enjoyed my work so far I'm just going to finish and post two that are near completion, Then I'll vanish to my workshop for a while once finals are over and hopefully return, with something to show for it

My lastest complition, a Pacithhin. Quiet an interesting race, with job availability decided by the sized and shape of their adult tusks, except for a few like the one here whose unique tusks leave them with the option to become whatever they want.
Hope you all enjoy.

Wow, I think this is your best detailed work yet - the wrinkled type of skin as well as the tusks look very complex and is well rendered. Interesting species, not just in appearance but also by the little blurb about how they come by work. (I originally thought his nostrils were his eyes *feels silly* but I quickly figured out I was wrong.)
"But Anywhooo, I actually have tried the mirror and it's working to some degree"
Well if this piece is any indication of that 'Mirror' use, I'd say it's helped. There's far less of a tilt to the character compared to your previous art. Is there any way you can improve the scan quality though?
Good luck on those Finals!

wOOt! Another fascinating alien! Excellent work on texture in this one, Mitth--and I agree with Your_Worship that the "vertical true-ness" of this portrait is better (and if the mirror trick is working, great!). I have to ask once again: which episode? Yet another race I don't recall seeing (or are you also working from comics...? )...
As to improving scan quality (I agree with Y_W there, too--we'd love to see more detail): check out the settings on the scan program you're using (the one that comes with the scanner itself)--there should be options there for choosing what it is that you're scanning (with mine, an old Dell A920, I like to use the selection for "Magazine/Newspaper" for scanning drawings--it seems to offer better resolution than "Photos" or "Text"), and then be sure to import it into an imaging program to "clean it up" a bit (with things like contrast correction, sharpening [or focus, one of those two] and cropping). Those steps should help with image quality. Even if you have no settings for your scanner, try using the imaging program (your photo editing program or something like Paint or Photoshop, whatever you have) to sharpen and improve the contrast of your work--anything like that will help!
Great work once again!

Hi Your_Worshipfullness! Glad you enjoyed the blurb, I thought I might try sharing a little of what I tend to always learn while drawing something, that way I know it by more than might be visible.
FF This one's from the Ep. I, in the streets and in the stands at the podrace. And I'll try to figure out those details for my printer, thanks for all of your helpful tips and tricks! I'll try them next time.

Leading into the Christmas week a Jedi Master and her young Padawan learner...
For this image I took Adi Gallia and her previouspadawan that's a master by the time of the movies and tried to make her old Padawan Stass Allie into a young girl without any reference except her adult form. Please let me know how I did! And thank you!

RE: Mitth's Alien Gallery (Updated 12/18/06) Jedi Master Gallia and her Padawan
|
I really like the "feel" of this one, Mitth: there's a real warmth here, between Master and Padawan, with Master Gallia gazing at her apprentice, her hand on her shoulder--and Stass, with such an intense look on her face (just as a padawan would certainly have, I'm sure!). A lovely atmosphere! Your work with facial proportions is getting better all the time (I love Adi's face here)--now you just need to start adding in more shading, to give your figures and faces more "volume" and depth in the image. Shading can be scary, as we're learning to draw: we draw an image we like, and are afraid to "ruin it" by messing up the shading! There are some basic tips I can pass along, if you're interested--drop a PM and we can chat about it! Wonderful work (and it's kind of novel to see some human faces here for a change! )!

Ah!!
That looks fantastic, Mitth!! I love the details you included here: is that a lightsaber there in the bag? And a collector's figure? Wonderful likeness--and I love that you've made a point of giving him a knowing little smile, too! This is just great, and you did a wonderful job on him! Merry Christmas!!

Ha ha! Lovely! Great Xmas image. I just find it extremely amusing to see Yoda in a santa suit like that. Great job!
And a Merry Christmas to you!

The reply that was long in the coming, sorry but RL has been keeping me out of it for a while but in a week or two I should be back at it.
FF, a light saber? Just maybe, what I did reveal in the items that may be hard to see here are as follows, A Princess Leia doll for a good little girl, A Nikto Action figure for a good little boy, A star destroyer, who wouldn't want one! And what's in the packages? Is up to the viewer
Hi Giolon05, and a much belated Merry Christmas to you too, I'm glad you like the suit.

Santa Yoda!
I love it! Sorry, I somehow missed this earlier. He really does look wonderful though, the likeness looks perfect in my estimation. Great work on the Santa outfit and for going into so much detail on the fur trim. I really like the idea of making the gifts SW themed as well. Perhaps there's a fortune telling Yoda figure wrapped in one of those presents (like the one I have in my room ). It just wouldn't be right not give a toy of himself away, lol.
