TFN and John Alvin's website are reporting that he passed away suddenly of a heart attack yesterday. I don't know if he posted here. I took a quick look at our VIP list and didn't see any id under that name.
There are contact details on his website if you want to leave a condolence message.

He was a fantastic artist. His Celebration IV poster was, is magnificent.

Aww, that's a real shame. 
I remember he did VHS covers for the OT that were made into t-shirts. I wanted one of those so badly back in the day and they were one of the first images of SW I was ever exposed to. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family.

A real loss for SW fans--and art fans in general. His work is what a lot of us aspire to, in spirit, composition and inspiration--my thoughts and prayers for his family and friends.
