TrulyGhent, loved that faded look on that sketch and noses wink they can be difficult with only black and white.

Rebecca yours was fantastic and I like to doodle at work too when a meeting is boring and it keeps me listening and awake.

mischief I cheated, I used my finger to blur the graphite. Can get a little messy, so keep an eraser handy. wink

(Thanks to FF for telling me this tip.)

Rebecca, you used lined paper, you must've been in school. Anyway, you've got the shape perfect, the shading is the only thing you really need. Shade on her back, and in the middle of her arms.

Yes, I was at school. There is nothing but lined paper there.

And as for the shading... blame my scanner. There was some, but it didn't show up very well. Not that it was very good in the first place. I can't shade! sad

Rebecca yours was fantastic and I like to doodle at work too when a meeting is boring and it keeps me listening and awake.

Thanks. grin I did this in math, english, sewing... I was bored in all of them. tongue

Thanks for taking the time to critique, Ghent happy

The medium was digital pen in photoshop... I hear you about the shading, could be better, yeah. I was trying to quickly get the basic forms, though. (And thank you for your first comment I didn't respond to happy )

Ooo, I love digital pens. tongue in that case I would suggest using the smudge tool for blending, if you turn the strength up a bit. Then just pick the point you want to blur and sorta move it back and forth until it gets really blurry then put it back where it was. nerd

P.S. What should next week's class be about?

Hm, I think I'd like to try this art class. Never learned anything from the one at school anyway. As for the next theme, maybe something focusing on shading, or dynamic poses or something?

Well, sure, that's pretty much what I did, along with enabling the pressure of the pen to determine the opacity... I think using the pressure leaves a better result, though. It was a sketch, though, so I wasn't trying to get the shading perfect tongue nerd

Not that I don't appreciate your comment, though wink hugs

Post it normally so that any newcomers can catch up if they feel like it.

mischief I'm glad you asked.

Assignment Two: Noses
Due Date: May 25th.

I figure everyone wants to be able to draw faces, but they're the most difficult to draw; and the most difficult part of the face is the nose, so here we are. grin

The Easy

The Tough

and the Miscellaneous.

I think it would be cool to do both a shaded drawing and a lineart, but it's totally up to you.

I threw in the last one 'cause it has a profile of Han, but you can draw any nose in that picture but the Vong-killer-droid. tongue

Let me know if I forgot anything. doh!

If you have any advice for drawing noses please post it. grin

That's a nice assignment. As was the last one, too. Unfortunately I found this only after the first one was due, but I still might try those by myself...

Noses can be tough, especially when you want to get two to look different... They somehow tend to end up looking too much alike. But I've always found eyes to be the most difficult part. To get some diversity to the expression (happy, tired, angry, confused etc.) is quite difficult. Think that could be an assignment at some point?

I'll definitely be pitching in on this one.

Noses are definitely something that are hard to master. The only advice I can offer is to keep on practicing and to remember that the structure of the nose is mostly made up of shadow. Don't try to create the shape of the nose with hard lines, but rather gradually build it up by placing different tones around the area to indicate light and shadow.
