Good morning, music-lovers.

Radiohead, Kid A

This album is great for that sci-fi feel. I listen to it the whole way through when I'm writing, and it just makes everything feel very spacey.

Beatles. They have songs for all emotions and all occasions. From Helter Skelter to All You Need is Love, they cover it all.

M_R, I'm not sure how you'd classify it. It's Tibetan spiritual music. Yunchen Lhamo is one of Tibet's leading female artists.
Most of the songs are in the native language if they have lyrics at all.

One, amusingly enough, is called "Om Mani Padme Hung n." It's sounds like they're saying "Ani Padme," though.

Another good one, guys:

Gladiator soundtrack

grin

I think I've seen it mentioned on the thread, but I just wanted to reiterate. Great stuff for all moods (well, epic fanfic moods). Good mush, good action/drama stuff.

Nightwish (Over the Hills and far away)

Is that a cover version of the Led Zepplin song?

Speaking of which, Led Zepplin is another band that's good to listen to for various moods (at least if you don't mind lyrics).

No, its not a cover of the Led Zeppelin song. Yeah, Led Zeppelin have a few good songs like Ramble on, and Stairway to Heaven.

guerre: Jedi Mind Tricks is underground hip-hop. Not much for mood music, but "i who have nothing" is a really good song if you can find it. "Army of the Pharoahs" is also good.

And to be honest, when writing, I rarely listen to music. I occassionally listen to beats, but only when writing duels.

What an interesting thread. I thought I was the only one who created soundtracks grin As for music I listen to.. It really depends on the scene as to the music I listen to. I got a lot of inspiration for my Repercussions fic from the 3 Doors Down song Duck and Run. I have a truly odd assortment of soundtracks ranging from everything from A Knight's Tale, to Star Wars, the Matrix, The Three Musketeers, Lord of the Rings, and Sleeping Beauty. I agree sometimes lyrics are distracting but sometimes they provide the inspiration in themselves.

For action scenes I listen to a lot of James Bond music along with the Matrix and occasionally some star wars thrown in. I also listen to some other stuff like Hoobastank that my friend got me hooked on and 3 Doors Down. For romance stuff I use Enya, songs like Watermark. For angsty stuff some of the Lord of the Rings music is perfect.

Interesting thread! I look forward to keeping up with this one

For: battles Nsync, Faith Hill, Titanic, Atlantis, or sw ep i sountrack [especially Duel of the Fates] are good.

For romance: Nsync, Faith Hill, Titanic, sw ep ii soundtrack [especially Across the Stars], and Innovaders.

For anything in between, I don't necessarly care... as long as its good.

Over the Hills and Far Away was done by Led Zeppelin, but it wasn’t their song originally. It’s a traditional British tune, usually associated with the regiments. When the Sharpe series was made into films, they used a version of Over the Hills and Far Away as music. It’s a nice tune. happy

For me, I use a pretty wide range of music for writing.

Computer game themes sometimes are useful. Baldur’s Gate II and Icewind Dale and Morrowind have great music that’s easy to get a hold of. The Morrowind main title is great for a “hero of destiny starting humble” sort of thing. The Planescape: Torment theme for the Nameless One is really sad and hopeful at the same time.

I like using modern music when it suits. Evanescence is great for redemption, and Soul Asylum’s Runaway Train is the perfect theme for a once-good person on the dark side who wants to change but believes that they can’t, bar none. Looks up the lyrics if you haven’t heard the song. ZZTop songs like Sharp Dressed Man and AC-DC songs like Back in Black are great for confident characters that are returning after a long hiatus.

Of course there is always the Star Wars soundtracks. They’ve got music for almost every occasion that is definitely very Star Wars. I’ve found that the instrumental music on the Kill Bill soundtrack is quite good. The Lonely Sheppard makes a great tired and mysterious warrior theme, the Misunderstood song makes for surprisingly good battle music, and the main theme is good for the same reasons that Back in Black is good.
