	Oh, whew, things have been exceptionally busy (that, and stars, can sci-fi get any better? Zoinks!). Okay, to keep you all in the loop (always free feel to ask what we’re actually doing ), there will be a mass monthly update. And let’s just repeat that it will be quite large for CRPA. The interview has been completed, the next challenge is ready and the spotlight ‘fic remains to be chosen. We haven’t actually decided on who will be doing the update, but it’s probably my turn (that’s my sneaking suspicion, anyway ). All depends on time constraints, I suppose. Entries for this month’s challenges have been somewhat on the disappointing side, but we understand that it’s exam time for many of you. I recently made myself a website that didn’t look glaringly horrible. Me and Carr are going the simple path when it comes to a CRPA records site because simplicity is the best way. Thank you to the reviewers! You’ve been wonderful, as always. Any reviews for the challenge fics (hint) should be submitted in the next day. EDIT: I forgot to add that the index sock can finally send and reply to PMs, which means you won't be seeing our two usernames showing up in your inboxes anymore. Mr. Sock will now speak for himself. 	CRPA MASS UPDATE (1 APRIL, 2005): As we promised, this update is huge (and we mean huge as in James and the Giant Peach huge). Are we on the same page here? Since a mass update takes around a good two hours to upload, we’re glad that it’s a monthly practice. So, what’s new? Well, your administration has been down sick recently – Amsie with a case of the flu and Carr with a stomach bug. How unlucky is that? Halfway around the world and we still fall ill at the same time. We’re still obsessed with Battlestar Galactica and we encourage everyone to watch it! This month our challenge is called “Scorched World”. Yes, it’s action. 	Thank you very much for your offer, RK. We’ve been planning a website for a while now. We could certainly use anyone knowledgeable in the ways of graphics and website making, however. Ace, that’s no problem. Glad this challenge intrigues you. Okay, let’s see… We still need more reviewers. It’s honestly not a big job. We’d just like to have the numbers there. If you are nervous about writing reviews, Carr and I would love to help you. Please contact us even if you’re mildly interested. J/TK isn’t a big pairing, after all. For this month, I’d like the reviewers to focus on fics within A-D (and, of course, reviews for challenge stories are always on the agenda). Challenge yourselves and see how many reviews you can contribute. Remember, send all reviews to the sock and we’ll PM you back with an acknowledgment. 	Now, I haven’t consulted with Carr about this idea since it just came to me five seconds ago ( ), but I think the three month challenges should be short – say, at most two pages. They could deal with the technical aspects of writing a la the Writer’s Race. That way, they don’t detract from the challenge and they’re easier to complete. I’ve written a few drabbles on TK, Jacen and her arm, but let’s just say that they’re inappropriate for the boards. Fun as heck, though . 	I have a question for those of you who are ok with NJO since I noticed something in my writing just now. When you write post-NJO J/TK stuff but target all J/TK'ers, how do you keep out all the NJO references? I went back through one of my fics and realized that while I meant for it to be YJK'ish post-NJO, there were a thousand references to the non-Danni non-Yuuzhan Vong parts of the series (TK's relatives on Isolder's side, mention of Saba Sebatyne, Jacen's memories of Embrace of Pain and the part about being a pure vessel of the Force...). 	I just don't bother, honestly. Occasionally it comes out that way, but it's a rare occasion that it does. If you're trying to keep it in canon, it's really hard to ignore what happened in the NJO--that's what made them who they are now. I wouldn't worry too much about it though--if you're focusing on a post-NJO story, you're really creating a new place for them, and any references you use are either a) going to be understood by a reader, because even if you aren't a NJO fan, most people still have a passing understanding of it, or b) going to be passed over entirely. Or I could be totally wrong. I think having an occasional three month challenge would be fun, and I agree that it should be shorter similar to what the Writer's Race did. I had a lot of fun participating in the Writer's Race and even when the challenges had a 500 word limit you still had to spend quite a bit of time reading/writing (depending on if you were a judge/participant) so having a limit on the size of the writing would definately be a good idea in a contest format. SilSolo: When you write post-NJO J/TK stuff but target all J/TK'ers, how do you keep out all the NJO references? Hmm, I agree with Carr. There are some plot threads that I like to keep from the NJO (like the Fondor incident) which help add to the tension and explain why J/TK didn't just immediately marry each other. I do not like the Vong so they aren't going to show up anytime soon, and when the NJO references are kept to a minimum/background information I don't think it's any different than making referencing to the Bantam/YJK era of books. For good or for ill, the NJO can't be ignored entirely (unless your story is AU ), but from what you've listed it is possible to pick and choose what bits and pieces you want to emphasize/allow into your fic without alienating YJK J/TK'ers too much. At least, that's what I like to think. Honestly, I do find some of the NJO books (like the second Agents of Chaos book and Dark Journey) helpful as a way of getting a handle on Hapan politics and the different players involved.
