since the passage should be with Anakin or Tahiri or both of them it is a novel ... not sure if there is a comic with them thinking happy

Oh. I thought it was a passage in general, not specifically associated with Anakin and/or Tahiri. And only Anakin appeared in the comics.

Got them thanks, Kidan. happy Replied to you with a draft of the article to check over.

JA
Yes - it has to be a passage from one of the profic books that is either about Anakin or Tahiri or both. So it would be your favourite A or T focused passage. happy

Hey there Mags - thanks. I appreciate all the work you're doing. hugs

Editorial
Two makes great company!

Happy birthday to you,
You were one now you're two,
Happy birthday Anahiri,
Happy birthday to you.

Apologies for the somewhat tasteless verse, but hey, a little celebration never harmed anyone; for here we are with another year under our belts and more A&T goodness to share with you all. And believe me, there is a generous serving of their special goodness in this issue with plenty of reviews, some magical artwork and a few interviews and articles to provoke discussion and hopefully more stories – about Anakin and Tahiri, of course.

The two interviewees in this issue are THE_PIED_PIPER and Qwi Xux, who have kindly agreed to being interr-, er I mean encouraged to share their thoughts about both Star Wars and our favourite couple. We're also excited to be able to present two new artists to you along with their amazing A/T pieces, and we hope that maybe you'll pop over to the Fan Art Forum and take a look at some of their other works. You'll be in for a treat if you do.

JediAlly has some more news from the world of RPG, and, Tahi grabs her macrobinoculars and goes exploring in an effort to find Tahiri amongst the mangled portrayals in both the Dark Nest and Legacy of the Force series. You have a bad feeling about this? Discover the prognosis in the feature article, and feel free to post your own thoughts in the thread.

On a more positive note – in fact, a very happy note - we can offer you a massive helping of reviews this time. Ten, in fact. The review team of Maggy, Tahi and YodaKenobi got a bit carried away – but they had a lot of fun; and we fully expect you will, too, when you follow the links and sample the works yourselves. One thing Star Wars never lacks is variety, a fact that star_writer24 endorses with her list of new additions to the A/T corpus. Star_writer24 has taken this role over from Courtney-Solo, and we'd like to take this opportunity to thank Courtney for all her hard work and enthusiasm.

We've had another change of staff in the Challenge section – it must be the season for change - and that task now rests in the capable hands of THE_PIED_PIPER who has taken over from Whitey. We'd like to thank Whitey for the wonderful work he did setting the Anahiri challenge up and organising the process, not to mention the great ideas he came up with.

MTFBWY, Courtney and Whitey – you're great team members and we wish you both the best.

Nostalgia is the theme this time for the favourite A/T moment. It's always difficult to choose one passage out of many possibilities, but I think you'll love the piece this time, which has been chosen by Maggy. Be prepared to go awwww.

Finally we'd like to thank you all for popping your head in to read our little tribute to our special couple - Anakin and Tahiri – and we hope you derive as much pleasure from Anahiri: Sound and Silence as we have in bringing it to you.

Interview with . . . THE_PIED_PIPER
~by Tahi~

The interviewee this time is an avid Star Wars reader and recently turned writer, who also happens to be, among many interesting things, an advocate for animals in need of rescue. A native of Tennessee who moved to Texas when she was nine, and recently returned to her home ground, she is a dyed-in-the-wool Anakin fan and an enthusiastic member of the Anahiri team. I’m lucky enough, and very proud, to have her as my padawan – and I’m looking forward to this opportunity to let her tell you a little bit about herself and her thoughts about Anakin and Star Wars in general. I’m sure you’ve guessed by now that I’m talking about THE_PIED_PIPER; so pull up a chair and join us as we explore the subjects we all hold dear.

So, Kick, what got you into Star Wars at the start - and then how did you find your way to TFN?

Well, I was born in 1976, the year before the original release. As a one year old, my parents took my sister and me to the drive-through to see A New Hope, which was just Star Wars then. Of course I was too young to remember that, but my sister who was 9, was hooked. So there were a lot of Star Wars items in our home. Three years later when I was four, we went to see The Empire Strikes Back. And that I remember vividly; I sat on my father's lap. I particularly remember Vader and Luke fighting on the ledge at Bespin, with all of that wind. So I guess Star Wars has always been there, I was just lucky enough to be born in that time span when it was absolutely everywhere.

laugh I can remember going to the roller rink when I was, like, 5 and they would play the disco version of the main Star Wars theme; it was great!

For my 10th birthday in 1986, I was given a copy of Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, and I instantly loved the EU, even though I'm not sure if it was called that then. I continued with Zahn's awesome work, and most of the other New Republic era books, and then one day I picked up The Crystal Star, and that's when my love for Star Wars went up several notches, because of a certain blue-eyed youngster. That affection was cemented when I read The Golden Globe.

After Star by Star I stopped reading canon for a long time. Finally, I missed the characters too much, and couldn't take it anymore. I did a google search for Anakin Solo fan fiction. I found the literature forums at TFN, and a lot of other great sites, but didn't join right away. But now to be "sitting" here with one of the greatest Anakin fans is truly great, Tahi, thank you.

Believe me, the pleasure is all mine, and I think I’m just one of many Anakin fans, all of whom are great by sheer stint of being Anakin fans. And gosh, you know, I remember reading Splinter of the Mind’s Eye, too. It’s quite funny now to think about the way they changed the direction of the profic storyline after RotJ. laugh Other than Zahn's books - which books of that Bantam Books era stood out for you?

Wow. Tough one. I really enjoyed almost all of them. But I would have to say the Corellian and Black Fleet trilogies. I love those books, I still read through them whenever possible.

[Tahi smiles lovingly as she thinks about the Corellian trilogy.] I have to admit to not really liking The Crystal Star, but I agree it had some good stuff about Anakin in it. What was it specifically about Anakin's portrayal in that book that you liked?

I think a lot of it is his age, and the cookie crumbs around his mouth. And of course the "No Krakana, Jaya". love

I think Hethrir summed it up with the one of the most enduring statements about Anakin Solo: "As I hoped, as I expected from the Skywalker line".

Golly, you’re making a good argument for that book. I might have to revise my opinion. wink I guess no book is altogether bad really. But anyway, picking up on your earlier reply to what brought you here to TFN – it seems like it was the fanfic that drew you here rather than any of the other forums? I’m curious because many of us came to fanfic via the Literature Forum.

It was the fan fiction. Mainly the “Anakin Solo being alive” stories. However (oddly enough) I'm also drawn to a story where Anakin may be dead, but the story shows how tragic and horrific his death has been to his family, the Jedi and the galaxy. If an author can get that across, it gets an instant thumbs up from me.

I'm also a fan of that other guy...you know, Anakin's grandfather, Darth Vader. love He handles business. And there are some spectacular Vader writers here at TFN.

How do you like to see him written? And - do you think there are any similarities between Anakin Solo and his grandpappy?

Yes, I think there are a lot of similarities between Anakin and his grandfather. They both were so very powerful and had a natural almost unconscious connection to the Force. They look similar, are both moody and headstrong, were both mechanically gifted and intelligent well beyond average.

However, I think had Anakin lived, and had he continued to be written the way he was written in Conquest, I don't think he would have fallen to the Dark Side. At least not for the reasons his grandfather, and certainly his brother, did. Anakin was too smart; he had too high an understanding of the way things worked, and the situations he found himself in.

Ultimately, Anakin was the force that went where he was needed - where worlds were being destroyed and his friends and loved ones, or even complete strangers, were in pain. He didn't have to contemplate whether or not it was the right thing to do; he just knew that it was. And he did so without any regard to himself. I think that is the essence of being a Jedi Knight.

As far as how Anakin Skywalker is written? I think Stover absolutely mastered him in RotS in the same that Keyes mastered Anakin Solo in Conquest. I can't really think of anything I would improve on in either situation.

I can imagine plenty of heads nodding in agreement there. When you first started reading fan fiction, what were the things that attracted you to stories - was it particular characters or genre or something else?

Hmmm, I like so many different things and characters about Star Wars that it would be hard to narrow it down. But I am overwhelmingly drawn to stories where Anakin Solo is alive...thriving, carrying the weight, carrying the story like he was designed to do since Dark Empire.

What's your process for choosing a story to read? Do you find it’s the titles that attract you, or is it more the characters, and do you like writers to note who the main characters are in their story header? In other words what are the things that make you click on a story?

Very insightful question Tahi, thank you for asking it. I think the title does play a role in story selection. If you're looking for something to read, a witty and catchy sounding title may draw more readers.

*laughs*

Not too long after I joined tf.net, I was browsing one night looking for something to read over in The Saga. When I saw a story that featured anger management classes with Lord Vader, I was instantly intrigued as I'm a big Vader fan. I'm so glad that I read that story; it was fantastic.

[Tahi makes a note to work on her titles. wink ] It’s obvious Anakin – both senior and junior - are a big draw card for you. What about some of the negatives; for instance, what puts you off a story?

Hmm. I can't really think of any one thing that I don't like about a story. I tend to cut people a lot of slack, because I find it extremely difficult to write fiction. I guess, what I do like is something that's original. Something that speaks the author’s heart and mind.

*laughs*

I'm the same way with men. When they give me a pick-up line, I'll give them points if it's original. Even if it's not the best line, it was special to them; it was unique. I'm the same with fan-fiction.

Speaking of men – there is one guy who I know you’re not keen on at present, and that’s our dear, sweet Jacen. What is it about Jacen that you don't like, and have you always disliked him?

No, I haven't always disliked him. I'm an animal lover as well, so I related to the young Jacen Solo a lot, probably more than I did with Anakin back then. My dislike for him started in Vector Prime, I suppose. All of the grief that he gave Anakin compounded with his own contrasting self-defeating psychobabble.

I think what they have turned the character into is absolutely misguided. What is Jacen Solo? Is he a villain? Is he an anti-hero? Is he a fallen hero? Is he the victim? A sociopath? Is he a spoiled brat? I don't know, maybe a little of everything. But (for me anyway) it makes it harder to relate to him as a character. What I do stand firm on with Jacen is the fact that Vergere was (undoubtedly) a Sith, and that he bought everything she sold him...unfortunately.

I was never a really big fan of the Solo twins. I just wasn't. I still feel to this day that without Anakin there to balance out their immaturity, the storyline suffers greatly. Having said that, I see a lot of myself in Jaina. grin I always wanted to be as strong as Leia, but in actuality I'm much more like Jaina. And as she's gotten older, I like Jaina much better, and hope to see more of her.

Heh heh, so probably does Jag, in more ways than one. wink I’m interested in what you say about Jacen’s empathy for animals. That was something I always liked him for in the early books. It’s a shame that kind of got lost, except in SbS.

We seem to be doing a lot of comparing early fic with later in terms of character continuity. Just for argument’s sake, let's imagine that everything since Conquest and Rebirth has not yet been written. What would have been your ideal continuation of the NJO storyline?

laugh Tahi, you're making me put my money where my mouth is!? shock No fair! tongue

*inhales and exhales*

I think that Anakin Solo's death was catastrophic for his family, the Jedi Order, and the galaxy. Whether or not killing him was a mistake is an issue that will be debated for the ages, I suppose. What would have been different? Could he have stopped the darkness? Maybe that's one reason he had to go. Or maybe as some say, it was just Conquest that built him into a supernova, and he was never meant to be immortalized...but he was.

I think the least they could have done is capitalize on his death more, if they were going to kill him. But, hey, it's not over quite yet. That's what the optimist in me says, anyways.

I like the optimist in you, Kick. happy On the topic of killing, apparently Timothy Zahn said at a recent writers' workshop that he doesn't support the killing of main EU characters in Star Wars as he doesn't think it's appropriate to the whole Star Wars thing. What are your feelings about this thorny issue?

*grins* Now that opens up a can of worms doesn’t it? tongue

I agree with Tim 100%. Mr. Zahn is the father of the modern Star Wars EU, and from everything that I've "seen" of him, he is a very decent human being. And is, in fact, sexy, like Stover. I think that's why, in 1991, when I read Heir to the Empire, I instantly liked Grand Admiral Thrawn and Talon Karrde, because I see them both as his alter egos.

A friend of mine met him at a convention once, shook his hand and got an autograph and picture. She didn't want to wash her hand that night. She went on about how he sits and talks with people about Star Wars, Sci-Fi, and life in general.

Yep, I’ve heard a number of TFNers say the same. I wish he would come to New Zealand. praying

The way Mara was killed left a lot to be desired. While I certainly don't speak for Timothy Zahn, I can imagine that he did notice. Also, it's well known that he and Michael Stackpole are very good friends. Stackpole was very vocal in his belief that killing Anakin Solo was a horrific mistake. Maybe, Tim shares some of that thought line.

All in all, I'm glad that he spoke out.

All characters will die in time, if the storyline continues as Star Wars has. Killing a character because it's the character's time, and because of where they are in life, is one thing. That is logical and believable for the story. And it can be very powerful, for example: Vader, Obi-Wan, Yoda and Qui-Gon. Sadly, I just do not see where the character deaths under Del Rey fit that mold, or how they have advanced Star Wars.

Yes, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head there, Kick. There are a lot of us who can’t decide if it’s just that the franchise likes shock tactics, or if it doesn’t really know what it’s doing, or if it has some secret agenda to eradicate all the cool people – possibly as some sort of skewed political comment on the way the world is at present. Whatever it is, it isn’t, as you say, the Star Wars we were brought up on.

And just recently you’ve joined the ranks of those who are trying to preserve their vision of Star Wars by writing fan fiction – first a songfic, and more recently a three-post story. And although both the songfic and the story focus on Jaina and Jag, readers can sense the strong presence of Anakin in the background - an example of, and inspiration for, truth and courage.

We know you’re a big Anakin and Tahiri fan – that’s a given - so I’m curious as to what is it about Jaina and Jag that you enjoy; and do you find them easy to write, as opposed to other characters?

I see a lot of my and Sean's relationship in Jag and Jaina. My friends who also read SW literature even comment on it, and that is definitely part of it. I also just really enjoy the dynamic between those two characters.

First, I see a lot of myself in Jaina; I always have. There’s her temper; the fact that she’s impatient; and how she hides in herself and keeps her grief buried, and deals with it though evasiveness until she absolutely has to face it. But then she is also explosive and a smart alec. So that’s pretty much my biography.

Jag is the one that reaches her, and brings her out of that. He's calm, rational, very grounded; and given his vastly different upbringing among the Chiss, who discourage emotional adolescence, he can offer her exactly what she needs. Jag has no agenda for himself; his agenda is serving the whole, and doing what is best for the team. He makes her better. You see, Tahi...Jag is my baby Daddy! grin

Wow – what a guy! Where can I find one? LOL What gave you the idea for the stories - was it talking with others and finding ideas via the discussion? Or did you find that the profic left gaps you wanted to fill?

*laughs* "A Night of Goodbye” rests solely on the shoulders of one Mr Aaron Allston. He left the Jaina/Jag goodbye scenes wide open with Jaina and Jag’s blanket scene at the end of Fury. After that I just took it from there, as a Valentine’s Day present for my favourite Master, and a birthday present for my nephew. (Of course, I also had to give him $100.00.)

Gah, kids these days – wouldn’t know a good thing if they fell over it! It was the best Valentine’s present ever. grin

For me the thing about writing Jag and Jaina is that it just comes naturally. It flows out of my soul onto the paper. Sometimes I just have to sit down and write them when the idea hits me, even if I don't finish it then. And Sean, to his credit, has been understanding and supportive. We've stayed in some nights and he'll watch TV, read the paper, lift weights or something; and I just write.

Believe me, Kick, you should be counting your lucky stars. Have you written stories in any other fandom - and are there other fandoms you enjoy such as Harry Potter or Star Trek?

You know, Tahi, I've always been a big Peanuts fan. It was always Peanuts and Star Wars for me growing up, especially Snoopy. Snoopy has always been my personal "symbol". I have a lot of Snoop paraphernalia around the house, and I'd actually like to write a Peanuts comic strip just to have for myself. The problem is, of course, I'm not that talented with drawing. But, hey, that’s what the boyfriend is for, right?

Er – yeees, amongst other things. wink Actually I have a soft spot for Snoopy, too. I still have the Snoopy I was given years ago by a guy I’d got to know when I was over in the States way back in the 70s. Retro, eh? LOL Okay, boring old reminiscences over and back to the topic: speaking as a new writer at TFN, what kind of things do you think writers, especially new ones, need in terms of support? Could we be doing more to encourage and help new writers?

I think the forums do a good job with support. I see a lot of support-type threads for different characters and 'ships, and for the most part everyone is very nice. As far as advice to new writers goes: for me, in the beginning, the first year of writing or so, I would stick pretty close to canon. Now of course you add your own spin and creativity, but I would stick close to what the profic writers are doing. My observation and experience has been that if you’re starting out as a Freshman writing heavy AU, you can run into trouble and start losing readers, because you don't quite have that experience under your belt to pull that off. Also I think new writers should keep it relatively short - stories with no more than two or three chapters - because you haven't built the fan base to sustain a really long project. But, that's just what I have tried to do, and what has worked for me. happy

And I have great Betas which has made all the difference in the world for me: yourself, Wes and Jagsredlady. You've all been so patient and kind, to you all really goes most of the credit. All three of you give sound advice and I trust your judgment completely. If it’s bad I know that you'll say it's bad. One of these days I'm going to post the following quotes by YodaKenobi in my biography, because I yub them so much:

YodaKenobi
"There's no up and down in space anyways, just so you know."

"I'm not entirely sure what you were trying to say there."

"I don't know, Kick...that's what I'd do. Your call."

"You've already said that two paragraphs up. No worries, I do it to."

"It will be intercomm, unless Leia is speaking directly into the commlink."

And my personal favourite....

"You have written a great story, and should be proud no matter what."

You’re simply, The Bes' Wes.....

I also have a fantastic writing partner that I sometimes team up with: CanadianJediMamma. Fantastic person, writer, mother and Jag fan. We also do our own individual work of course, but we really enjoying working together under the ID of Canadian-Piper.

That’s what’s so good about places like TFN – being able to team up with like-minded people. I think we all learn a lot from each other, too.

Another question, not really related to fiction, but still I have to ask because I’m curious. How did you get your nickname - Kick?

*laughs* Oh, yes. The nickname Kick is the result of one of my many legendary childhood exploits. It stuck through the years because it suited my spirit, or so they say. My name is Janet, and I'll answer to either one.

Ah – so are you saying that you kick first and ask questions later? grin Forewarned is forearmed as they say. wink Fortunately my next question is far from contentious and touches on a topic I know is dear to your heart – can you tell us a little about your dogs?

I have two beagles that I adopted through rescue after the death of my first beagle Abbie, a few years ago. Their names are Luke and Penny, and they're great! After Abbie's death I started working with some local rescue groups, and will always support rescue efforts for the rest of my life.

Believe me, the world needs more people around like you, Kick. That kind of work, although rewarding, must be heartbreaking.

You mentioned your Sean earlier, and I wonder if you wouldn’t mind indulging my curiosity again. Is he Irish as in Irish Irish? wink I have to say I love Irish dancing - always wanted to give it a go, although I’d probably end up like Mr Bean with my feet all tied in knots.

*nods* Aye, he is, and Sean can dance. Well.

Both of his parents were born in Ireland and lived there until right after they married, then they made the jump across the pond; and he still has a lot of family there. However, he and his siblings were born here.

Ah - that is very cool that Sean's folks came over from Ireland. Does he have one of those delightful Irish brogues?

*nods* Yeah, he does; sometimes it's pretty thick. And he can speak some weird dialect of some sort that isn't quite English. Drives me crazy, in more ways than one. And it mixes quite well with the East Tennessee accent, which is unmistakable.

[Tahi goes all nostalgic.] I've always wanted to visit Ireland. There are several Irish writers I admire - notably Yeats and James Joyce.

*nods* Sean wants to go this summer to visit his grandmother, but I told him I'm not going for just a week to Europe because that's silly. And there is no way Sean is going to take more than one week of vacation at a time; he wouldn't know what to do with himself, workaholic that he is. And we are now in the process of spending two weeks in the Caribbean, so that will be all he can stand for at least a year.

That sounds great, but it might pay to keep an eye out for pirates – unless they happen to look like Johnny Depp. wink Well, Kick, I’ve really enjoyed this chance to chat, so thanks so much for sharing your views about Star Wars and fanfic, and life in general, with us. I think one of the truly lovely things is that, no matter what angle we take on the whole Star Wars phenomenon, we’re all basically united by it. Good karma as they say. Long may it last. happy

The Lovers by imperial77

The little fluffy piece can be seen as a kind of missing part of the still ongoing ‘fic Edge of Victory: Reversal. In this AU Anakin and Tahiri are captured by the Yuuzhan Vong and are now working for them – well, I suggest you read the ‘fic to find out how it all happened.

In these few lovely lines we see Anh’khiin and Taher’ai in a private moment, all alone in their ship. Imperial77 lets Ikrit's prophecy or vision come true – together they are greater than the sum of their parts!

Holocaust by Jedi-Ant

This is the sequel to Ant's mega-epic Sacrifice, which showed what happened when Jacen flow walked back from the Legacy of the Force era after he realizes he's made a tremendous mistake in killing his parents and Tahiri. Somehow, Jacen and Tahiri's future consciousnesses travel back to the Myrkr mission so that things can be set right with their knowledge of the future. Both Jacen and Tahiri set about making sure Anakin Solo survives this time, believing that if Jacen dies and Anakin lives, the horrors of the future will be avoided.

Things do not happen quite as planned, of course, and Holocaust deals with the effects of those failures post-Myrkr. All three Solo children are believed dead by the galaxy at large, but that remains to be seen in this tale filled with twists and turns.

Though it's on an indefinite hiatus for the time being, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Ant and Holocaust will be making a comeback sometime soon so that we can finally see what happens, and urge everyone to check out her two stories in what's shaping up to be an excellent series.

The Jedi Adept Series 1-3 by Kidan

In this series, Kidan weaves an intricate story that he "adeptly" fits into canon – beginning from shortly after SbS and moving into the early LotF era. The plot focuses on Noelani Darklighter, who, despite her name and her upbringing with the Darklighters on Tatooine, is in fact Tahiri's and Anakin's daughter. Removed from her birth mother not long after she enters the galaxy, Noelani accidentally ends up as her mum's apprentice when Luke's machinations to keep the two separated fails. One wonders if the Force wasn't too happy about Luke's questionable, may I say dark, behaviour, and decided to foil him! Whatever the cause, the result makes an amazing and exciting story told by Kidan with great empathy and humour. He combines adventure, action and a tight plot as he puts his characters through dangers and triumphs, all the time keeping us wondering when Tahiri and Noelani will realise their true relationship. The dramatic irony – us knowing the truth and them having to work their way towards it – gives the story a consistent depth of emotion. I became so involved in the story that I kept wanting to shout out the truth in the hope that Tahiri might hear me!

Some of my most favourite scenes are those between mother and daughter, especially those where Tahiri is trying to train her impetuous daughter in the ways of the Force. In the third book, Family Found, I love the scenes between Ben and Noelani as they develop a crush on each other while both madly racing from one danger to another. It's very reminiscent of Anakin and Tahiri, except with the added complication of Ben's more ambiguous, and possibly more hard-edged, personality.

If you enjoy well-wrought tales with realistic characterisations and plenty of adventure, tinged with the complexity of very human relationships, then look no further. Start with Greater than the Sum of their Parts and then follow Noelani's and Tahiri's adventures through A Father's Blade and Family Found so that you can jump on board with number 4 – A Path in the Dark, which I believe will be starting soon.

Red Sky by Lonewolf89
I've been a fan of Lonewolf's ever since I started here, and have always enjoyed her characteristions of Anakin and Tahiri and the way she captures the dynamic between them. This story continues that trend, except I'd have to say this takes it up another few notches from excellent to superb, and where Lonewolf's authorial "voice" has always been individual, it seems to me to have matured considerably. You can see this in the complicated emotions with which she imbues her characters.

I think what impresses me most about Red Sky is the way Lonewolf can capture a feeling or a mood in a few succinct words. Her style has a minimalist aspect to it that actually heightens the raw nature of the emotions being expressed. And boy, are they raw! Both Anakin and Tahiri are people who have suffered, and are people who need . . . love, warmth, affection, both physically and spiritually, Anakin especially due to the horrors we learn he has suffered at the hands of the Yuuzhan Vong.

The story is in progress and the posts are reasonably short, so you'd find it easy to catch up. I'm very curious to see where Lonewolf takes the storyline from where it is at present, with Anakin dependent on Tahiri to guide him back into the society from which he's been separated for so long. He has forgotten so much, and the fact that Tahiri is about the only thing he has remembered, although beautiful in one way also puts a huge burden on her. I'm hanging out for the next post.

Hint, hint, Lonewolf. wink

Dear Qahsa by Maggy

Told through the eyes of a Yuuzhan Vong warrior, Dear Qahsa is a story about the Vong's settlement of Zonama Sekot shortly after the war. Kshatra Kraal is a warrior dealing with the sudden upheaval of the civilization he's known all his life, when he happens upon one of the planet's Jeedai caretakers— Tahiri Veila.

With the story's unique perspective, much is learned about the Yuuzhan Vong as they deal with the after effects of their defeat and Tahiri as she has become "joined."

A great story that reads like a Yuuzhan Vong diary and is fun for any Tahiri fan.

Homecoming by Morgoth_The_Enemy

Morgoth's return to fanfic is a Star Wars crossover with animes called "Naruto" and "Full Metal Alchemist." As someone totally unfamiliar with anime, I was skeptical about jumping into this fic as I was afraid I'd be lost, but I knew Morgoth was a talented writer so I gave it a shot— and I'm glad I did! Morgoth explains everything so that even those completely ignorant of these anime series can follow along, and it really is more Star Wars-centric with some anime mythology mixed in.

The story takes place shortly after the Yuuzhan Vong War, when Anakin Solo suddenly reappears at a Jedi meeting with some new and frightening powers to confront a terrible foe— Riina Kwaad. Slowly, we learn why and how Anakin has come back and where his abilities are derived from as the Jedi Masters debate whether or not he has gone over to the dark side.

Morgoth has created a fascinating fic that is just getting started, so now is a great time to jump in and read.

Reconciled: The End and Reconciled: Dark Revelations by star_writer24

These two stories follow the adventures of a parallel universe Anakin who travels back in time to prevent the war with the Yuuzhan Vong that killed all his friends and family, only to find he has skipped into another universe – the one with which we are familiar. Star_writer has picked a difficult concept to work with here, but she does a fantastic job – and if you are like me and love the Asimov/Heinlein style of universe/time switches, you'll find this story a special treat.

Complications arise for Anakin when he ends up saving Tahiri, who, although long dead in his universe, is vibrantly alive in his new reality, and pregnant with his dead AU counterpart's child. Not only does he have to deal with that situation but he also has to mask his Force abilities from the likes of Luke and Mara and Kyp – not an easy task you'll have to admit, especially when he has to contend with his memories of their AU counterparts with whom he shared some "interesting" experiences.

Nevertheless, Anakin sets out on the daunting task of saving his newfound family from the evil forces at work, all the while masquerading as one of Talon Karrde's men – one, Nik Lasno. Star_writer handles her characters with skill, and I find her Anakin-Tahiri scenes a delight to read. She puts them through some angst, but she balances it all beautifully with humour and romance. This is a very satisfying story, and I'm very glad that she took the risk to step out of the tried and true into doing something so original.

At present we are up to a critical point in the second story in terms of Anakin's and Tahiri's relationship and also in Anakin's efforts to reveal the truth about Vergere – which of course will impact on Jacen. Things, as they say, are really hotting up on all fronts! Join us, and you will be forever grateful you did.

The Talk by Tahi

What happens when the adults in Anakin Solo's life begin to realize his budding relationship with Tahiri may be becoming too serious? Tahi explores the trials and tribulations of Han & Leia's coming to terms with Anakin's new relationship shortly before the Jedi strike team's mission to Myrkr, and Lando Calrissian's bumbling attempt to explain the birds and the bees to Anakin with hilarious results.

The dialogue in this short story is superb, with terrific interaction between the previously mentioned characters as well as Anakin and Tahiri in the end. Each chapter is filled with gut-busting scenes that will definitely have you laughing out loud more than once, mixed with a tenderness that leaves you feeling very good about the whole thing. Somehow, Tahi manages to work the humor into the story in a way that we don't forget about the gravity of the Jedi's impending mission or let it devolve into silliness.

A truly hysterical piece of writing and a joy to read.

It is by Thrawn McEwok

In this post-Inferno vignette, Thrawn McEwok gives us just enough information to get readers' minds working overtime. I won't say much about the plot, as it would be hard to do without ruining some great surprises, but it centers around Tahiri with a serious Anakin-related theme, and a great twist. Thrawn pulls the pieces of Legacy of the Force together to make a stunning picture, making connections that fit well together, but leave enough ambiguous, that you'll be mulling it over for days.

It's short, but you'll have to read it more than once. A great piece by a great author.

The Age of Heroes by YodaKenobi

. . . is the first part of the Legacy of the Sith series and fits into the continuity of Revolution, The Eighth Cortex, and The Living Force – a closed trilogy to replace the end of NJO. You'll find reviews to those in the previous issues.

A gap filler is the epic called Empire of the Hand. It is Jaina-, Jag- and Wrev-centred.

The Prologue starts with the swinging title of “The Day the End began”. We learn of the return of Callista in an alien ship, and Mara finds her. Callista reports in her interrogation that a new force is lurking in the darkness. The soon to be arriving aliens are Force-users and dangerous.

Above the skies of Sullust were Anakin and Wrev arriving just in time to bring the tide of the raging battle.

Age of Heroes is the first part of a Series and is an introduction to the new alien race that comes into space of the New Republic.

YodaKenobi writes in a superb style a la Revenge of the Sith by M. Stover (the first few chapters) – which makes it more than a joy to read. Not to say that the whole epic is another brilliant work of his! Even without reading the first trilogy the reader is able to understand his created AU since flashbacks and explanations are given in deep through the whole story.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

PS: the story continues with Exodus – the review follows in the next issue!

A note from the editor:

Recently I was browsing in the Art Forum and I discovered two artists – kecen and Glitbiter - whose work really impressed me. They have quite different styles, which is what makes them so interesting in my book, as diversity is something that I truly believe we should celebrate and encourage. What is more, both have produced some art pieces that involve Anakin and Tahiri, and, it gets better, they have both agreed to let Anahiri post these works.

So may I first of all introduce kecen’s wonderful, quirky and highly original images of Tahiri/Riina.

Inspired by the Mus(e)ic: Tahiri-Riina artwork
~by kecen~

kecen says:
"There was an absence of Riina art, so I made a picture of "Hungry Riina" to a song called "Her Song" by Hungry Lucy, with Riina in green armor (it was very peaceful music). The band also did another fitting song called "Bed of Flames". Riina is holding a notebook, a reference to a line in "Short Stories With Tragic Endings", also by From Autumn to Ashes."

Personally I love the semi-mermaid-like quality in this “Hungry
