Spirit and Sprite
~by Glitbiter~
Here are the wonderful contributions from the second Fan Art Forum artist. And may I say if you haven't visited the Art Forum, try and take time out to go and have a peep some time. You won't regret it – in fact, you'll probably come away inspired like I do.
Glitbiter's first piece will move you – so have tissues at hand. Don't the expressions on the faces of our tragic couple just cut you to the heart? This is an A/T piece called:
'Still here'
Glitbiter says:
"I was concentrating more on post-NJO Tahiri, her lingering feelings for Anakin and how much she wants to see him again. Since Tahiri was such a big part of Anakin's life I imagined that he would be watching over her, even if she was oblivious to it. Plus, I had to have a shot at BlueGhostie!Anakin."
One of the aspects of that picture that affected me was the expression on Anakin's face. He looked as if he was trying hard to get through to Tahiri, but not quite succeeding. Poor Anakin – poor Tahiri!
And now for something really cheeky.
'Barefoot Jeedai'
About the second picture, Glitbiter makes the following comment:
"As I was having so much fun, I just had to do another Tahiri. The things I like most about her character are her spunky attitude and her habit of not wearing shoes, so I tried to convey both in my drawing."
Spunky is right. I think her expression is priceless in that drawing, and the colours in both pieces really work to capture the eye and create mood. Thanks so much, Glitbiter, for sharing your artist's view of Anakin 'n' Tahiri with us.

Once upon a time in a galaxy far, far away . . .
~the authors chat about what they're up to~
To start the Chit-Chat section ball rolling in this issue we have a treat for you – a short interview by Kick with Qwi Xux about her wonderful story: One Thousand Tears. If you haven’t read this one, you really should, as it gives a true to character depiction of Tahiri that leaves LotF dead in space.
Kick: What draws you to write Tahiri?
Qwi: I think what draws me to her is her personality, her quirks, and everything she has suffered. I first read her in the Junior Jedi Knights ages ago, whenever they were first published, and Tahiri was the reason I started reading the New Jedi Order. As it got further in, everything that happened to her became the draw…the idea of being tortured at such a young age, of losing the person she loved most, of suffering from dual personalities and coming out stronger…it absolutely fascinated me.
Kick: Is she your favourite?
Qwi: Yes, she is.
Kick: What inspired this particular story?
Qwi: I read the first couple of books in the Legacy of the Force series and I wanted to explore Jacen’s motivations from another perspective. Being that he and Tahiri had a relationship built on everything they’d suffered during the war, I wanted to tell it from her point of view. I wanted to let Tahiri see Jacen’s motivations, and understand where he was coming from, so that she could be faced with the same choices that Jacen was faced with, but to realize how morally wrong they were and go in a different direction. I wanted to explore the psychology behind everything she went through and was going through.
Kick: How did you approach the Jacen/Tahiri aspect of your story? Especially given what's happening in canon.
Qwi: Whew...I came up with the idea for Tahiri spying on Jacen after reading the first Legacy of the Force books. It was horrible what was happening to Jacen, and the fact was that Tahiri was close to Jacen. I suspected after reading the Dark Nest Trilogy and the first couple LotF books that Troy Denning would take Tahiri in a dark direction, and that frustrated me, because of everything the NJO had her overcoming. By the time I finished the NJO, it was clear that Tahiri had moved on from Anakin's death...but maybe that's just my perspective on it.
Anyway, I knew that if anyone could understand what Jacen had become, understand his reasoning behind it, it would be Tahiri. I wanted to get her to a place where she would start to accept it, where she would be questioning everything that she believed about herself and the Force...and then to realize that it was all a lie. She and Jacen were the opposing forces in my story, so very similar and yet so different. I basically wanted to present Tahiri with the same choice that Jacen had been presented, and then turn away from it.
Kick: Wow! Great perspective Qwi! How long have you written, and have you ever written Star Wars before?
Qwi: I’ve been writing stories since I was old enough to spell words. As far as fan fiction goes, Star Wars was my first foray into it. I’ve been a member of the boards for about six years now, and have been writing Star Wars fan fiction since then.
Kick: Are you an Anakin fan as well?
Qwi: Yes, I am. Anakin’s death was actually the reason I joined the boards. Just before Star by Star came out, I was looking for spoilers about who was supposed to die, and it led me to a spoiler thread on the literature board here. When I found out he was going to die, I started looking for Anakin/Tahiri stories to read, and was only able to find one story about them on the entire fan fiction section of the boards…so because I wanted to read it so much and there weren’t any to read, I just went ahead and started writing Anakin/Tahiri stories. Of course, now there are A/T stories all over the place and I have no trouble finding them.
Kick: What were your feelings on their friendship?
Qwi: I loved their friendship so very much, and even had it not become more than friendship, I would have loved it just as much.
Kick: How do you think his death has affected Tahiri?
Qwi: Obviously it had a detrimental impact, but I believe that as Tahiri moved on, it made her stronger. I do think it led to having a lot of emotional issues, or attachment issues perhaps?
Kick: How long do you usually write for at a time?
Qwi: Do you mean at one sitting? LOL, that depends. I have kids, so I usually wait until they’re asleep, or if they’re awake, I can only write a little bit at a time. If I’m alone and on a roll, I can write for several hours at a time.
Kick: Is this story finished, and if so how long did it take you to completely write it?
Qwi: The story is finished (whew!) and it took me…about nine months, I believe. I started writing it in November 2006, though I didn’t start posting until December, and I finished in August 2007. That also includes four companion pieces—two One Thousand Tears vignettes and two Horn family vacation pieces that went with the story.
Kick: If you keep up with canon, do you like what they have recently done with Tahiri?
Qwi: I do keep up with canon, and I don’t like what they’ve recently done with Tahiri. I’m not saying that the authors write badly at all. I just feel that after thirteen years, Tahiri would have moved past Anakin’s death, particularly because it specifically said in The Force Heretic trilogy and The Final Prophecy that she had moved on with her life and initially felt guilty because of that. I think she still missed Anakin, but given everything she had been through as a teenager, by the end of the New Jedi Order she had become a strong, capable young woman…and I think that some of the things that have happened to her in canon recently undermine what she came through as a teenager. Most recently, some of her decisions really make no sense to me at all given her previously established characterization.
Kick: Here's a passage I wanted to quote for the magazine, if it's okay with you. blush When I first read this Qwi, you know what? It made me tear up...it made me tear up.
Qwi: Is it bad if I say I’m glad? I’m just so happy this story actually affected people.
I stopped dead in my tracks as I saw myself on the screen—a much younger version of myself. Barefoot, dressed in a bright orange jumpsuit, no scars on my forehead. A little shiver ran through me as I took it in. My childhood self was wading slowly into a calm area in a wide river, surrounded by lush jungle. A river that I’d nearly drowned in, and later learned to swim in.
I remembered this day, one of many like it. My heart tightened a little in anticipation of the next person to enter the holo—Anakin Solo, running behind me toward the river, followed swiftly by Jacen. Jaina was operating the holocam. The younger version of me was chattering away, not a care in the world, and I watched myself clamber onto the shoulders of Anakin Solo. He grabbed my ankles to hold me steady, and Jacen stopped at the river’s edge. “You guys ready?” he asked.
“Give us everything you’ve got,” my younger self said with confidence. Anakin, of course, wore only a look of concentration.
The next moment, the water began swirling around Anakin’s feet, tugging and pushing on him, threatening to knock him over and send us both into the river. Jacen’s brow was furrowed in intense concentration; it was taking everything he had in the Force to upset the water.
My holographic self laughed, and I knew from memory that I had been using the Force to add to Anakin’s strength, to keep us steady in the water. An old game, one we had played a lot. One that had strengthened all of us in the Force—whoever was working ‘against’ us, as they took it in turns to try to send us sprawling into the river, and Anakin and I, as we gave everything we had into remaining unmoving.
“A storm came up,” I said into the darkness of the library.
Doran jumped and quickly paused the holo, standing to face me. “Tahiri! I—” He looked rather like a little boy who had been caught sneaking sweets before dinner. “The Council asked me to find holos of Jacen as a child. Chief Omas is holding a ceremony for him the night after tomorrow, to show the galaxy that he’s a Master now.”
I wrinkled my nose. Chief Omas liked the idea of Jedi ceremonies for political reasons; I had been Knighted at one such ceremony. “And the Council agreed?”
Doran shrugged. “I think Jacen might have already agreed to it before the Council even heard about it.”
Why didn’t that surprise me? “Lovely.” I pulled up another chair and sat. Doran followed more slowly, tracking my line of sight to the holo, which had paused on an image of Jacen’s focused look, with Anakin and I in the background, leaning slightly to the left, but still upright. A lump of mild ache settled in my chest, and I touched the screen with my fingers. “I was ten. We went out to the river, and a storm came in before we knew it. We found cover in a cave.” I lowered my hand, and slowly the ache disappeared. I had long moved past the pain and horrible loss of Anakin’s death. The memories I had would always be there, and I could think on them and be happy that I’d had that time with him, that I’d had the chance to know him. I gave Doran a small smile. “I remember that there was a creature already living in the cave. Jacen had to convince it that we wouldn’t hurt it—and not to hurt us.” My smile faded.
“There are quite a lot of holos from the Academy on Yavin 4,” Doran told me. “I think there were copies that were stored elsewhere.”
I nodded. “Tionne, probably. She would have made several copies, afraid that history might be lost.” I gave my younger, carefree self and the childhood version of my first love one last look, then turned deliberately away.
Kick: I loved seeing this generation with Anakin who was their ordained at birth leader still alive…before the YV War, when they were butchered. They were kids, so young and innocent again. How did you get this so perfect, and capture Tahiri's emotions and strength in really perfect detail?
Qwi: LOL, I don’t really know how to answer that. Tahiri has always just been very easy for me to write. I love writing her, and do my best to get into her head and express how I see her feeling in particular situations.
Kick: Your writing about Jacen and his love of animals, and how he used to reverence life, was a chilling comment in light of what’s happened in canon.
Qwi: Thank you. It just strikes me as horrific how Jacen went from being so empathetic to life, to being what he is now.
Kick: And Tahiri's internal narrative, on how she has moved past the pain and loss of Anakin's death, I think is double-edged. Can anyone ever really get over that? Move forward and move on, absolutely...but get over it? I don't know, I'm sure it's complicated. They fit together so perfectly, and Anakin Solo wouldn't be the type of guy that you get over so easily..,your thoughts if any?
Qwi: They did fit together perfectly…and I honestly think that Tahiri would always remember Anakin, move forward and get on with her life…and I really think that it depends on a person and situation as to whether they let themselves get over a horrible tragedy. It has been my experience in life that some people cannot seem to get over something, whereas others who have been through the same thing do get over it. I think that Tahiri, in particular, is a very strong person. She has been through the loss of so much, and I do think she would have emotional inhibitions, which is what I tried to portray in One Thousand Tears. “Getting over” his death does, to me, imply moving on…it means crossing over that edge of wishing she had died right alongside him to coming to grips with the fact that she is alive, she shouldn’t feel guilty about being alive, and that there is potential for her still. This is something the authors portrayed in her at the end of the NJO, which is why it baffles me that the Dark Nest trilogy and the Legacy of the Force show her so differently. Yes, five, ten years have gone by since the end of the war, but she had moved on, she was doing really well with her life, she was exploring the Yuuzhan Vong part of her and I honestly saw her as having so much potential.
Kick: Thank you so much for your time with me Qwi, and the time you take to write your fantastic stories. You do a terrific job with Tahiri; I wish the choices she had made in canon were exactly the ones that you had her make here. Superb!
And here's some news from some of the other A/T writers about their stories.
IMPERIALSOLO says:
Dark Legacy:
A generation after Yavin, the Empire is poised to destroy the last of the Rebellion. Tahiri Veila is a young stormtrooper officer, Anakin Solo, an Alliance agent: this is their story!!
KIDAN says:
Jedi Adept 4:
The Jedi Adept series tells of the adventures of Noelani Darklighter, the young daughter of Anakin Solo and Tahiri Veila. In Greater Than the Sum of Their Parts we were introduced to the talkative blonde, and her adventures continued in A Father's Blade as the Master/Padawan training bond between her and Tahiri grew. Then in Family Found, after a cave-in on Ossus, the secret of Noelani's heritage was revealed. It is from that point which the fourth story in the series will begin. After the revelations of just who took Noelani away from Tahiri during the height of the Vong War, the Jedi Council is now thinking of removing Noelani as Tahiri's apprentice. When the decision comes back, what will that mean for both Tahiri and Noelani? Find out in the upcoming A Path in the Dark .
Additionally, I have an Anakin story entitled Memories:
Six years ago, Anakin Solo was in training to be a Jedi Knight. Yet during those times, something happened which caused him to lose his memories. Now, as a young man of 17, he is returning to Yavin to complete his training. Even though those times are still lost to him. As he once more begins training, he wonders why has he lost so many of his memories? And what does it have to do with a certain yellow haired girl who doesn't like to wear shoes?
LONEWOLF89 says:
I began Red Sky at the end of '07, a comeback in a way, since I've had so little time to write recently. It's centered on Anakin; he's been a prisoner of the Vong for five years since the Myrkr mission, and now he's escaped. It focuses a lot on his transition back into the Jedi world, and how he and Tahiri begin their relationship anew. I hope *crosses fingers* that I'll have the time to finish it. The writing is coming along slowly, though readers should find comfort in the fact that I have a large portion already figured out in my head. I just have to master that all-too-time-consuming typing thing.
Also, I have a one-poster up on the boards, called "In This Place". It's an A/T, though a bit sadder than my usual fare.
"Simpatico", posted back in November, counts as A/T, too, I suppose, even though the exact details at the end are a bit sketchy. It's a short piece as well.
MORGOTH_THE_ENEMY says:
Homecoming is set about half a year after the end of The Unifying Force, maybe more. The Yuuzhan Vong are defeated and a lost hero returns home. All is not well, however, as an old enemy seeks to return from the shadows with the aid of an evil as great as itself, with revenge being the sole thing on its mind... How will the Heroes of the NJO fare against such a vengeful foe? Why does the Empire seem to be creating such a large army? What secrets has our returning hero learned and will it be enough to save all he loves? You'll have to read to find out!!!
This story is largely a crossover with the Anime Naruto universe as well as borrowing elements from Full Metal Alchemist. It is primarily an A/T piece and features the main characters of the NJO and Naruto.
Here are a few glimpses from the fic so far...
Luke Skywalker stood radiating calm, his face, as always, a mask of Durasteel. Before him stood his Jedi knights; called to a reunion on the new Jedi owned planet of Ossus. The crowd bustled with uncertainty, unsure of what their Master would say. All Jedi from across the Galaxy were present, even little Tekli and Tahiri Veila, newly returned from Zonama Sekot.
“My name is Riina Kwaad. It’s nice to meet you original.” Riina said, addressing Tahiri.
“There is no Riina. There’s just me.” Tahiri replied shakily, her hand moving towards her lightsaber. Riina laughed hollowly.
“As you can see original…that is no longer true. Your Jedi master up there asked me what I wanted here. FIGHT ME!!!” Riina demanded, her voice filled with hatred and desire.
In one deft move the darkly clothed man tore off his cloak and cast it to one side. The wind moving the trees, the planet, the stars, the galaxy, the very universe itself seemed to stand still as it bore witness to impossibility. Every Jedi in the room could not, would not, dare not tear their eyes from the figure in front of them. His Force presence flared suddenly, an unmistakeable presence not felt since Myrkr.
Hope bled back into the hearts of a family that had been shattered for two and a half long years. Then cold laughter, terrible and insane tore through the moment, cutting it to shreds.
“I knew it! I knew it would be worth it to come here!!!” Riina laughed maniacally.
“But…how did you survive?” Riina asked quizzically. Anakin didn’t so much look at Riina as look through her. When he began to speak, his voice was low and filled with dangerous promise. No-one noticed, not even Riina as he glanced down quickly at Tahiri’s blood on his fingertips.
The Yuuzhan Vong warriors made no move towards Anakin.
“You can’t be holding them! You can’t! You haven’t got that much power!!!” Riina screamed. Something warm spattered her face suddenly and Riina reached up. Her fingers came away covered red. One warrior lurched forwards, spraying gore from his throat before keeling over to fall at her side.
“Sorry to leave you with this mess” he said cheerfully “But I really need to stop her. We’ll catch up later!” Anakin glanced tenderly at Tahiri in Cilghal’s arms before looking at his family and preparing to leave.
“Wait!” Leia called to her son. “You’re coming back…you ARE coming back, right?” his mother asked, tears streaming down her face. Anakin winked at his parents.
“Believe it!” Anakin smiled.
“Oh, not the boy. He is only useful as my new body. No. It is his wretched Uncle that shall feel my wrath. My most unworthy hand too…” The spectre said cryptically.
“She shall suffer for betraying me!” the apparition swore, glowing with the rage of the Dark side before vanishing.
TAHI says:
I've added some new chapters to my long running A/T story Many Happy Returns recently and am on the home run with it now. Anakin, Tahiri, Lando, Tendra, Vehn, and Qorl et al are at last able to catch their breath; the Black Knights are grieving the loss of Doc and Squirt, but hugely thankful to the Mantrusian healers for working wonders with poor Rongo. Bomar Tag, the perpetrator of all the evildoing has discovered why it's NOT a good idea to collaborate with the Yuuzhan Vong, although his demise has left his stepdaughter, Dajira, in an unenviable situation.
Will the others be able to help Dajira through her problems? What will happen to the Black Knights if Rongo is unable to continue as leader? Will Lando's and Vehn's minimalist style of dress start a new fashion when they appear on the holonews?
And will Anakin ever work out what Tahiri wants for her birthday? And if he doesn't, will she shoot him? No, of course she can't – the story's canon compliant. Whew!
Between now and the last issue, I've produced two other A/T pieces, both being responses to A/T challenges. The first, "Not for the eyes of younglings", was a response to the magazine challenge of the same name. It sparked a useful way of adding another story to my At the Oasis series which is one of my few AU pieces, and which focuses on Anakin and Tahiri as a young couple with young children. This particular challenge story introduces baby number two, who makes his entry into the world in typical Solo dramatic fashion – throwing his poor Uncle Jacen into a state of bumbling confusion.
The second A/T piece was also a response to the casual challenge: "need for discretion". This idea generated a four-post, relatively light-hearted story called The Talk that fits into SbS as a series of missing scenes. It deals with the question that all parents have to deal with eventually – how to make sure their precocious teens know about the birds and bees, and how to negotiate an opportunity to find out. This story involves, along with Anakin and Tahiri, Han, Leia, Lando and Tendra.
YODAKENOBI says:
This week, the last chapter in my story Exodus will be posted, closing the second book in the Legacy of the Sith series. In the next two months the third instalment will begin, and it is titled The Lands of the Dead. I'm very excited about this story and am looking forward to starting it in May.
The Legacy of the Sith series tells the story of the post-NJO galaxy where Anakin Solo survived, and a new threat has emerged, manipulating the Galactic Alliance from behind the scenes and forcing the Jedi Knights into exile. Luke and many of the Jedi Masters have been captured, leaving the Order in disarray, as one of the Solos has fallen to the dark side, allying with a Sith Lord to become "Darth Havok," while another has just stepped onto the dark path intent on destroying the Jedi's enemies.

Path in the Dark
~cover art by Kidan~
Number four book in Kidan's excellent Jedi Adept series, which he reports will be finished some time in the next month or so, will sport this nifty cover.
The usual suspects
Your friendly Anahiri:Sound and Silence team thank you for reading, and hope to feed you some more A/T goodness in the next issue.

That cover for Jedi Adept definitely has an animé style to it. I like it. I know they made those manga-style comics of the original series. Maybe for the next issue, we could have the author of that Jedi Adept cover try his hand at drawing animé versions of Anakin and Tahiri.
As for Tahi's article on "Where's Tahiri", having been one of the contributers, you already know my views. But I think I should elaborate on two details, as well as offer my two-cents on the other views.
First off, I don't really think she and Corran had an Apprentice-Master relationship like Anakin and Obi-Wan did. I think it was more on the lines of what Kyp and Jaina had, but with a stronger bond of trust between Tahiri and Corran than there was between Kyp and Jaina.
Kidan, you believe that the influence of the Killiks was an assault on her already fragile psyche. I think I agree with you on that. Her psyche had suffered a huge amount of trauma during the Vong war. It could be that even though nearly fifteen years had passed since Anakin died, and it's been nearly that long since the war ended, she's still not completely healed. It could be that she'll never find in life the healing she needs. Sorta like how at the end of Return of the King, Frodo knew he could never be at peace while he lived in Middle-Earth. So he accompanied the other Ringbearers and finally found peace as they approached the Grey Havens. As for what would happen if she were to suffer another devastating blow to her psyche, well my own views are one possibility. The other is possibility could happen in Invincible - she might suffer a fate similar to Depa Billaba in Shatterpoint.
I also agree with you, TahiriSoloFan, and Thrawn McEwok that it's way past time that we get to see Tahiri's POV when she gets another flow-walking session from Jacen. Stover was able to tell various parts of ROTS from the perspective of various characters, giving us an insight into their thoughts and feelings. He and Cunningham did the same for Jacen and Jaina in Traitor and Dark Journey. Hopefully, Denning will do that in Invincible.
As for your views that "only Skywalkers and Solos are allowed to follow the Force without penalty" and "only Solos and Skywalkers are important, and everyone else is cannon fodder", I'm not going to try and get into the heads of those at DelRey/LFL. However, I have to disagree with those two statements to a certain degree. For the first one, did you forget about Anakin Skywalker? About what happened to him, why he chose to become a Sith, and the consequences of his decision? Or for that matter, what's going on right now with Jacen? I know everything that happened to Anakin was essential to the plotline of the movies and the entire Star Wars universe, and I know the same can be said about Jacen in terms of the plotline of the Legacy but since he's a Skywalker. But still, to say that the Solos and Skywalkers follow the Force without penalty doesn't seem right.
As for the second one, I agree that there were a lot of characters who were brought into the EU, survived the comic/novel they were in, and then just disappeared. Case in point - Callista. I like to know what happened to her since Planet of Twilight, since I felt her story was unresolved. I'm glad that in Fury, Allston brought back Cheriss ke Hanadi. I know from four articles on the WotC website that focused on Adumar said that she became an A-wing pilot and was assigned to Adumar, but that's it. Nothing about any of her accomplishments, or even if she survived the Vong war.
I also agree that the Solos and Skywalkers are important, but there have been novels and comics where they either didn't appear or played a minor role in comparison to the roles the other characters played in the novel and comics. Take the X-wing series, both comics and novels. Wedge, Corran, and the Rogues and Wraiths were the main characters in those stories. Luke, Han, and Leia appeared, but they were minor characters. Or even take the Republic and Clone Wars comics, which I'm referencing to because of Anakin Skywalker. Yes, Anakin appeared in a few of the Republic ones and a good number of the Clone Wars, but those series focused on other Jedi and other memorable characters like Sagoro Autem.
Morgoth_the_Enemy, I think we all agree that the Tahiri in this series isn't the same one we've come to love. If Denning were to give us her POV in Invincible, we might be able to understand her a little more. In so doing, we might begin to sympathize with her more and begin to like her again.
TahiriSoloFan, I'm with you and Kidan in that I'm looking forward to how she will turn out in Invincible. I'm also with you in that I'm hoping for the best. But as for your statement that Tahiri isn't a Solo or a Skywalker, Kidan, considering how close she was to Anakin, I was always with the belief that the Solo/Skywalker family accepted her as one of their own. Look at how Luke and Mara did what they could to help her recover in the Enemy Lines books.
Now I want to clarify two things from my belief. One is more like a reminder. In Revelations, we saw Tahiri's mind was in conflict with the Riina personality, and that Tahiri, with great reluctance, agreed to merge with Riina for the safe of survival. During the merger, Riina tried to become the more dominant of the two, but Tahiri saw that and slapped her down, more or less saying, "We're only merging in order to survive, but if we're going to do this, we're doing so on my terms. Not yours."
The other thing is, when you look at it, Tahiri had the support of three individuals in the Junior Jedi Knight series - Anakin, Ikrit, and Tionne, who was like a mother to her. Anakin and Ikrit died in the Vong war, yet she managed to gain the support of the Jedi and the Solo/Skywalker family. But now, she really doesn't have anyone. The only one who might still support her would be Tionne, because of the mother/daughter-like bond between them. But we've seen very little of Tionne since the Young Jedi Knight series, and even less of the bond Tionne and Tahiri shared.
I also want to say I've completely forgotten about Corran's comment from The Final Prophecy about something that appeals to both Tahiri and Riina. That statement can mesh with my belief quite well. Riina now knows everything Tahiri knows about the Jedi and the Sith. The powers of the dark side and the Sith and the fact that the Sith were able to rule the galaxy for a generation must be very appealing to Riina. They would be appealing for any Yuuzhan Vong. As god-embodied as they believed Shimrra was, try to imaging him also having the same powers as Exar Kun, Darth Bane, and Palpatine. As appealing that is to Riina, it held no appeal to Tahiri. That's where Jacen's flow-walking comes in, and my belief that in doing this, he opened up a possibility that Tahiri felt wouldn't happen until she died - a chance to see Anakin again. And for Tahiri saying Vong instead of Yuuzhan Vong, I'd chalk that up to Riina playing a deceptive role, certain parts of which might insult the gods, but she's hoping the Trickster Yun-Harla would forgive her, should Riina succeed in becoming the dominant personality and a Sith Lord to boot.
There's one book remaining, and one more chance for Tahiri to get herself straightened out. Can she do it? Considering Ikrit's statement that she and Anakin were stronger together, and since Anakin's not there, I'm reluctantly forced to believe that she can't. Unless... The authors said that Anakin might make an appearance. Considering what they were planning for Jacen, I know a lot believe they were referring to Anakin Skywalker. Now if Jacen's flow-walk into the past to see why his grandfather made the choice qualifies as "Anakin making an appearance", then you can disregard what I'm about to say next. If it doesn't, then I have to wonder which Anakin they were referring to - Skywalker or Solo. At first, I thought Skywalker. Now I have to wonder if both are going to appear. I can see Anakin Skywalker appearing to try and make Jacen see the errors of his way, to put it mildly. Can Anakin Solo do it, or help his grandfather in someway? I don't think so for the first, and I don't see how for the second. Instead, I see him showing up to help Tahiri break free of Jacen's influence. Will this be enough for Tahiri to reassert herself and become a Jedi again - yes. Will she survive the final book? And if so, will she be punished by the Imperial Remnants for assassinating Pellaeon? Guess we have to wait and see what happens.

Great issue, everyone So much fun to read. It's been awhile since we've done this but it came together really well
Maggy: I love the magazine coverart I know I recognize that Anakin image
Tahi: Great editorial, and interview with PIPER. You always ask the best questions and end up getting great answers.
Maggy & Tahi: Enjoyed the reviews, there are three fics I really need to check out. And thanks for reviewing AoH, Mags *Sends you paypal payment*
Kecen: Really cool Tahiri/Riina pictures. I especially like the second one— very creepy, yet beautiful
Tahi: Your article hits the nail right on the head as far as my concerns with Tahiri's characterization go. It doesn't make a lot of sense at this point and great job digging up that quote from FH3 to kick things off. I'd forgotten just how emphatic Tahiri was in that scene.
At this point, I'm leaning with TSF and the idea that there is much more going on with Tahiri than we're seeing. I think she's up to something... And if she's not, this is probably one of the worst characterizations ever
Terrific article all the way around
Mags: Love the A/T moment going back to JJK!
JediAlly: Your RPG knowledge continues to amaze me
star_writer24: Cool coverart! I really like the black & white, nice choice. You also did an amazing job tracking down a year's worth of A/T fics
Glitbiter: Fantastic artwork You always do great work, but these are particularly good.
PIPER: I enjoyed your interview with Qwi. I really don't know anything about her, so that was an interesting read.
Kidan: The new cover looks superb. Even better than the other three in the series, I think.
Tahi: Thanks again for putting this all together I don't know how you do it, but it always turns out well. Great job!

Whew - finally fought my way back here. DRL is tricky sometimes.
Thanks guys for the feedback on another team effort. Thanks to everyone who helped and special thanks to our two guest artists.
Great to see you again Ant - thanks so much for popping in.
JA - thanks for those thoughts on Tahiri. It certainly is problematic that we don't get to see Tahiri's pov. It's possible that she IS stringing Jacen along, and I cling to that hope, too. I think the fact she hasn't let on where the new Jedi base is is possibly a sign she hasn't turned dark. I'm kind of hazy on the timeline as far as her association with Jacen goes, and I don't think the books make it clear, but it seems to me likely that she could have been party to any info on the new base at some stage. Or at least be able to suss it out from the others. When was she formally dissociated from the other Jedi?
There are a few quotes I could have used from TFP actually that could suggest Tahiri is capable of turning into something nasty. There's a scene after the one I cited in the article where Tahiri tells Corran that it's not her Vong aspect he should fear but her Jedi one. She argues that the new Tahiri she has become is only just learning to use the Force, unlike the old one who had a long connection with it, and unlike Rina who had no connection to it. Interesting comment, eh?
So basically I could go with Tahiri turning Dark IF I could see some inside views in the text. But there's no obvious sign at all, which means we have to accept Jacen's view on her that she's some kind of pathetic creature leting herslef be manipulated. I can also accept that she might have a grudge against Luke for banishing her, but nothing has been mentioned about that at all. If you're going to have a character turn bad you need to hint at the things that have provoked it.
I don't really think, though, that the new Tahiri would be so eager to see Anakin's final hours again; IMO she's over all that. In TFP I see a young woman who misses her love but whose sense of loss is normal and healthy. I therefore cannot swallow a Tahiri who has unresolved grief issues. It doesn't mesh with the way she's portrayed in all the NJO books after Reunion. So this another reason I tend to hope that she's kidding Jacen. If not, as Yoda, says, it's the worst portrayal yet.
Another random thought: in Conquest, Ikrit says something like: "Together you two could ---" but he stops himself from finishing the thought. So could he have meant that A and T together could be VERY BAD? And if so - is Tahiri hatching some plot of her own to be VERY BAD with Anakin, using old Jace as a means to an end? Could be a rather cool bunny actually. LOL
Anyway - I guess we'll have to wait and see. Anyone else got thoughts on this?
