(Quickie disclaimer: If this belongs elsewhere, let me know. Since I cannot edit the Subject on the OC Alliance, I thought it might be easier to start a new thread for the Challenge)
Welcome one and all to the OC Dueling Circle! Here for your reading pleasure, our competitors shall compete for great honor!
Here are the Rules should you wish to step into the Dueling Circle and prove yourself:
1) The only stories accepted either a)Are written using only OCs or b)Are stories featuring Canon characters, but primarily driven by OCs
2) Every competitor is to be treated with utmost respect. Flaming WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!
3) If you wish to help out, let me know!
Now, here are the rules for the Challenge:
1) Approximately every other week there will be a Challenge posted in this thread, generally in the post following this one. Competitors will have one week to write a fic based upon that theme. You can write in any time period (Before/Saga/Beyond).
2) No fics/links are to be posted on this thread. Competitors are required to PM me with the link to their stories on their respective boards. Once the submission window closes, I will put up a post with that links to that Challenge's submissions for voting. (Why this rule? Hopefully to keep things running smoother and less cluttered in this thread.)
**UPDATE: I am considering permitting fics to be posted here. I'll be testing this for the first couple Challenges to see if it works out. So help me out by participating!**
3) The voting period will run for about five days, during which you PM me to cast your votes. I will be keeping track of the votes received, and at the end of the voting period, I'll announce the winners. One fic from each Board will be chosen as a winner.
3b) I will participate in this Challenge, but I won't be voting with everyone else. However, if there is a tie, I'll cast the tiebreaking vote.
UPDATE: To clear up any confusion, you cannot vote for your own fic. Try to find someone else's you like, rather than voting for yours.
4) What will the winners get? You will receive considerable honor...plus amongst the three of you, you will come up with a topic for the next Challenge, which I'll give you time to decide on. Once you do, PM it to me and I'll have it ready for the next Challenge. Note that failing to do this will result in me (and anyone assisting me) arbitrarily assigning a new Challenge.
*Also, note that rules are subject to change as the Challenge goes on...in which case this post shall be updated accordingly.*

Whatever you can think of, even if it's something less grand; perhaps someone from a long line of people who clean the portable toilets of the galaxy? Add to the mix that the story should center around the pressures spawned from this twist of fate, living up to the family name or being in such a position where you effect the lives of millions of people. Something like that, or if you can come up with some more interesting pressures, then go to it

It’s that time of year, where the veil is thin between this realm and the one beyond. There are many traditions around the world that use this season to celebrate the people who have gone through the veil before them.
In Mexico, it is the Day of the Dead. Pagans celebrate Samhain and the Dumb Supper. Christians have All Saints Day.
Have your OC remember and acknowledge their ancestors. Perhaps they contact them through a séance, place flowers on a grave, or talk to them in hopes they are out there somewhere listening.

I'd do a story for this if I had time (and my computer at home was working!) but I've got some uni work to do, so I can't unfortuantely. I do have one suggestion, though. I know you don't want people to post their stories here, but you might get more response if you did let them do that - or you could run it in conjuntion with my forum at Jedi Girl. I need people to post there and the forum is about Original Character stories, but that's up to you if you want to do that. Here's the link to it, anyway.

talkingbanana: If you don't want to participate in this one, you don't have to. This isn't a long-running competition, where points are kept track of. After each Challenge, everyone starts from scratch, so you can jump in at any Challenge!
emimar: Hope you get the computer up and running soon! We miss you! Anyway, the reason I'm reluctant to let stories be posted here is I don't want to have judging swayed unfairly by having some stories available before others. I may try it out to see what happens for the first Challenge or two, but I just want to make the judging fair.

Mandalore's Dueling Circle
The only difference is this Challenge will extend to all Boards (Before/Saga/Beyond), not just KotOR. I'm not sure how we could go about linking this with your site, but I'm sure we could work out something.

I have tried typing my stories directly on to the boards, but you always run the risk of it crashing that way before you finish - then you loose everything you've written. I hope my computer can be fixed, otherwise it'll take me a long time to get a new one. Luckily my cousin knows how to fix them.
Kinghts of the Old Republic looks good. I'll try submitting my Wookiee Wars Trilogy there as it's in that time period, and I'll put a link to it on my site anyway. Any site that deals with Original Characters is welcome at SWCC.
I know what you mean by not wanting the judging to be swayed - perhaps instead of having a new challenge every week, maybe every two weeks would be better, but that's just a thought.

emimar: I'm hoping to have Challenges every other week, that way we allow for judging and deciding for the next Cahllenge. If it still gets too hectic, I'll allow for more time.
And as a quick note for everyone: Feel free to post your stories in their respective boards before judging begins. After all, only the votes garnered in this thread will count, not any comments left for a story.
And I'm still gonna try posting entire stories in here. It may make for some long posts, but it might be easier than links.
