NYC--Jaina got the shaft with a capital S. I could have done with a tiny bit less Mando and more Jaina. Because if J/J are going where we think they are (Legacy Fel's) they at least could have given them few more pages.

Not that that making important decisions quickly and decisively in out of character for Jaina, but still they could have given a little more love to something that is going to be a *possible* major story arc in the future.

Just my 2 cents.

i agree with both jaina getting the shaft and jacen seeming to get the whole series to himself (selfish, good for nothing little...)

personally the mando thing intrigues me. im wondering if the mandalorians will rise again under boba (kinda like KOTOR)...or it could just be that karen is obsessed...whichever.

what will be interesting is the interaction between boba and jaina, as well as how other mando's react to her. Also, will boba's grandaughter (forgot name) get annoyed woith jaina? i think she will....overall next book should be interesting.

QFT that ENTIRE post!! And call me Nat happy

The mando stuff just annoys me. I know Karen really loves them, but IMO they don't fit well into the series as a whole, and whoever's in charge of this project should have either asked her not to include them or chosen someone like Stackpole who likes the main characters better.

I often wonder why Karen got the assignment, and why the Mando's were given such a prominent place in the story. I can only hope that its to finally put Boba six feet under (didn't GL do that in RotJ?) Sadly, I think the powers that be consider Mandos more popular than any of the NJO/YJK characters for some sad reason.

Its kind of like the fact that there are action figures of obscure comic characters (Crimson Empire? Really?) and still no figures of the Solo kids.

She's done alright, but I often wish that Allston and Denning had been given the task between the two of them- they both like J/J more than mandos.

Exactly. I think she's a good author, but I don't think she was the right one for this project.

In regards to the book, I thought it was interesting when Ben realizes he's deferred to Jag in regards to Jaina. This occurs when he finds Jag and Zekk hanging out together and asks Jag to contact Jaina. It was sort of a show-not-tell confirmation that Jaina and Jag have reunited and this is something Ben just "knows" in his heart.

Wow, that's the first time I've been QFT'd. Awesome.

*waves*

Hi Nat. grin

I agree, the early books gave me the impression the Mando's just being shoehorned in. But I've been lurking on the Legacy comic threads in Lit, and I'm wondering if Travis was chosen because of her Mando-love. Mandolorian curses and sayings seemed to have infiltrated into everyday slang in the Imperial navy. A legacy of Jaina's time with Fett?

Another legacy of Jaina on Mandalore might be Roan Fel himself. I mean, I've always assumed that Jaina would have some pretty badass skills to begin with. Her Jedi Master was a top Imperial assassin. Mara didn't just teach her advanced lightsaber form. Logic dictates that she also would have been taught all measure of sneaky and underhanded spy skills too. Which is why I was kind of peeved about Jaina needing unorthodox training from someone else. But after reading Revelation, I can see elements of Beviin's red-haze psychotic brawling in Fel's fighting style.

I mean, Roan completely and totally pwned Kruhl (am I spelling that right?) It was a down in the ditch, kick them in the nards and poke their eyes out brawl. With lightsabers. Definitely not a Jedi fight. Would it be the type of fight I'd expect to see from someone who had not only conventional Jedi combat training but also a backround in the fisticuffs of assassin and commando style hand to hand? Heck yeah.

I guess my point is that I understand (now tongue ) why Fett and the dang Mando's were put in this series. Do I love it? No. Was it, in my opinion, done well? Not really. Do I get why it was included? Yep, cause it probably has something important to do with Legacy/Imperial Knights backstory that hasn't be revealed yet.

I guess I'm just eternally hopeful that it will all work out in the end. rolling_eyes But I must say, I've laughed out loud more times reading Revelation than I ever have with any other book.

shock

But I'll give KT her props where it's due. I LOVE her Jaina.

EDIT: Highlighting cuz I don't want to be banned!

Interesting speculation, canadianjedimama, on the value Jaina's mando training may have in the future. I'm also thrilled to hear something positive about the book since I won't get it for another few weeks- ah, the joy of living in the middle of the woods.

I do agree that it was probably unnecessary to give Jaina "special" training. She's proven to be an unorthodox fighter already. She did kill Tsavong Lah by levitating her lightsaber and stabbing him in the neck. Kreia, from KotOR 2 is the only other Jedi/Sith I know of that we've seen do that kind of move. Just because Jacen can flow walk or stop blaster bolts with his hands doesn't mean he's the greatest duelist ever- no matter what they make Luke say about how difficult his fight with Jacen was.

I'm still worried that the Mando's ultimate contribution to the story is going to be Mirta killing Jacen after Jaina defeats him. Ever since Bloodlines its been in the back of my mind that she would be the one. worried

I dont think so it will be a family thing.

I finished the book and have to say this was the first Traviss book of the series I walked away from and felt it was well done. Really well done. I didnt like the whole Maladore stuff either but it finally fit.[hl=black]I also felt that besides realizing she needed to get the job done because it has to be and developing the emotional and mental disipline to kill Jacen, I think the Maladore Fett story made Jaina realize that she needs to feel and to love rather than be detached. In the book she watches Sintas and Bobba sad past and thinks how they cant get it back together and all the two lost due to cirumstances and the realization was made that she didnt want it to be her and jag. Things are set up right now for a real reunion of the two snd I am sure now Denning will have Jag there for Jaina when the throwdown happens. Hey TK and Lex I think we will have an exact ending to the J/J story you imagined and I cant help but feel when I read it it will sound exactly like something you wrote!

I have to say that Revelation is the first book in the LoTF series that I read and ended it feeling . . . hopeful. Not depressed, or disgruntled. I have to admit that I have a soft spot for Boba Fett, and enjoyed the sub-plot with Sintas more than I can say. But, this is not the right place to get into that. wink

Fot me, I think Jaina's time on Mandalore was important for her development as a character. I can see her commiting to a family more easily after reading 'Revelation'. That, and Mirta's pleeing for Jaina to spare Jacen really struck Jaina deep, once again 'Revelation' really struck a family vibe for Jaina. I think she needed stuff like that. Then, and Jag inquiring after Jaina like a lost puppy was too adorable for words. love It has to be one of my favorite LoTF moments yet. happy

That, and KT's Jaina is kick-butt! cool I miss seeing her like that. dancing

And . . . that's all I have to say. happy

EDIT : I take it back. On page 382, Jaina imagines what it would be like if she and Jag were in Boba's and Sintas's situation. In her own words it was a wake-up call. Another way the Mandalore plot helped kick some sense into Jaina's head. dancing love

Wow, if this book turns out to be what everyone is saying, I may be editing a lot of those old KT-bashing posts I've had in the last year and a half. But in the case of J/J. I'll happily east a little crow to see them realizing what they should have done years ago. love

I can't wait to read this book now. shock
